This week, Americans were horrified when Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran spoke about a new bill she introduced, which she said would allow abortion<\/a> even when a woman has begun the process of labor. Tran’s statements were so outrageous that even the bill’s co-sponsor, Dawn Adams, said she regretted co-sponsoring the bill and admitted she\u00a0did not even read it<\/a> before signing on. “I made a mistake, and all I know to do is to admit it, tell the truth, and let the chips fall where they may,” she wrote in an e-mail to her constituents. “I did not read a bill I agreed to co-patron and that wasn’t smart or typical. I will work harder and be better for it.”<\/p>\n

Adams, who is a pro-abortion nurse practitioner, claimed she only expected the bill to do away with “onerous” abortion restrictions put in place by Republicans; however, the bill “sought to do so much more,” she admitted. “None of this,” however, “changes that I believe women must have safe legal options for abortion….” In other words, the bill went too far, even for her. And it goes too far for the overwhelming majority of Americans.<\/p>\n

In the shocking exchange, Delegate Tran discussed the bill with Virginia House Majority Leader Todd Gilbert, who asked her if the bill would allow abortion even at 40 weeks pregnant, when the mother was already dilating and showing signs of being in labor. Tran affirmed this, replying, “My bill would allow that, yes.”<\/p>\n
