{"id":1948,"date":"2011-02-09T23:29:38","date_gmt":"2011-02-10T04:29:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/?p=1948"},"modified":"2013-12-28T11:34:00","modified_gmt":"2013-12-28T16:34:00","slug":"bronx-planned-parenthood-report-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bronx-planned-parenthood-report-failure\/","title":{"rendered":"Analysis: Bronx Planned Parenthood failed to report child sex trafficking"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/statement-stuart-schear-vice-president-communications-planned-parenthood-federation-america-liv-36136.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1962\" title=\"iStock_000006493772Small\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/iStock_000006493772Small.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" \/><br \/>\nIn Planned Parenthood&#8217;s statement released yesterday<\/a> about the Bronx video they state:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In an interview with the FBI, the two health center workers featured in the video said that they did not hear the words &#8220;sex work&#8221; or &#8220;sex worker,&#8221; uttered by the actors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>They would not be saying that they didn&#8217;t hear &#8220;sex work&#8221; or &#8220;sex worker&#8221; if they thought our reporters were sex workers\/traffickers and had reported them promptly. <\/strong>Also, notably absent from Planned Parenthood&#8217;s statement is the claim that they promptly reported to local law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The problem with the &#8220;we didn&#8217;t hear sex work&#8221; defense is that &#8220;sex work&#8221; was said twice, once to each employee on the video. The evidence of what the undercover reporters said they were involved in is overwhelming. See:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At 3.03 our undercover male reporter says &#8220;we&#8217;re involved in sex work&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>At 3.05 our undercover male reporter says &#8220;we have some other girls that we manage and work with&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>At 3.21 our undercover female reporter says &#8220;\u2018cause they\u2019re 14 and 15&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>At 3.52 our undercover female reporter says &#8220;they don&#8217;t speak English because they just came in&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>At 5.28 our undercover male reporter says &#8220;they don\u2019t have like a 9-5 job, you know.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>At 5.30 our undercover female reporter says &#8220;you wouldn&#8217;t need to know that they work at night? And whatever, that they do sex work at night?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>At 5.52 the conversation goes:<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>Prostitute: Okay, and is there any problem I guess abortion-wise after they have the abortion\u2014how long can until they can be sexually active? Because they have to work \u2013<\/p>\n<p>PP: 2 weeks<\/p>\n<p>Pimp: 2 weeks. What would you recommend for them to do, during that time?<\/p>\n<p>PP: During that time? Well, like, sex-wise nothing can go inside of them, for 2 weeks. No fingers, no, like-<\/p>\n<p>Prostitute: Why is that?<\/p>\n<p>PP: It\u2019s just for the length of recovery process. We have them come back in two weeks for another check-up and make sure everything went okay with the abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Prostitute: So they can\u2019t do like any work?<\/p>\n<p>PP: Mm.<\/p>\n<p>Prostitute: That\u2019s not good.<\/p>\n<p>Pimp: What would you recommend that they do? Cause they gotta work. Like is there something for them to do? Or?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>At 10.30 the conversation goes:<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>Pimp: We\u2019re involved in sex work-<\/p>\n<p>PP Supervisor: Mhm.<\/p>\n<p>Pimp: We have some girls that are kind of young like, 14, 15, that they might need an abortion.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>At 10.44 the conversation goes:<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>Pimp: They don\u2019t have insurance, some don\u2019t even speak that good of English \u2018cause you know, they just got here.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You can see the <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/files\/transcripts\/Bronx_Transcript.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">full transcript here<\/a> and you can watch the unedited tape below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><object width=\"480\" height=\"390\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/s79oYvh-g8Q?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"480\" height=\"390\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/s79oYvh-g8Q?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Further evidence that Planned Parenthood didn&#8217;t promptly report to law enforcement is their <a href=\"RT @hucksarmy: Huckabee can't start campaign for 2012 until he closes out 08, says Hogan Gidley-Huck PAC director http:\/\/ht.ly\/3TD9J via Politico \" target=\"_blank\">January 18th letter to AG Eric Holder<\/a> in which they do not list New York as a state in which they suspect Live Action had investigated them in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In conclusion, the video evidence is clear that Live Action&#8217;s undercover reporters communicated that they were involved in &#8220;sex work&#8221; where they manged girls as young as 14 who knew little English and has just &#8220;come in&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Furthermore, the statement and letter by Planned Parenthood indicate that they did not not think that this was a case of sex trafficking and therefore did not promptly report the incident of child sex trafficking\u00a0 to local law enforcement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Planned Parenthood&#8217;s statement released yesterday about the Bronx video they state: In an interview with the FBI, the two health center workers featured in the video said that they did not hear the words &#8220;sex work&#8221; or &#8220;sex worker,&#8221; uttered by the actors.
