Strongly supported by the abortion lobby,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?191+sum+HB2491\">HB2491 would remove the safety stipulations<\/a> that dangerous late-term abortions be performed in a hospital setting.<\/p>\n<p>While all abortion procedures carry risks to the mother, <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/greenjournal\/Fulltext\/2004\/04000\/Risk_Factors_for_Legal_Induced_Abortion_Related.20.aspx?fbclid=IwAR2BU9Eyay99y0sLQ8JE0kXrNH_wIYVbgWY1ytoLO521AuSg2eWLRb30_m4\">studies<\/a> show gestational age is a major factor in abortion complications. Eliminating restrictions that make statistically riskier later-stage abortions safer for women would have a damaging effect on women\u2019s health, and can also lead to greater instances of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3066627\/\">post-traumatic stress disorder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r5Af8vIym2o\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to multiple polls, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/roe-v-wade-dont-support\/\">a majority of Americans<\/a> &#8212; more than 75 percent &#8212; believe abortion should be restricted to the <em>first trimester<\/em> of pregnancy. This includes even a majority of those who consider themselves to be &#8220;pro-choice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Virginia\u2019s abortion restrictions were enacted in 2011 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2011\/02\/24\/AR2011022407874_pf.html\">in response to former abortionist and convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell<\/a>, whose squalid \u201chouse of horrors\u201d facility, exposed in 2010, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/doctor-kermit-gosnell-found-guilty-of-murdering-infants-in-late-term-abortions\">killed at least three born-alive infants<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/id\/41154527\/ns\/us_news-crime_and_courts\/t\/house-horrors-alleged-abortion-clinic\/#.XD9fPs9KjOQ\">several women<\/a>. The measures were intended to assure safety and cleanliness of facilities performing outpatient surgical procedures. Indeed, subsequent inspections showed that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-house-of-horrors-widespread-health-and-safety-violations-discovered-at-virginia-abortion-clinics\/\">every abortion facility inspected had major safety violations<\/a>. That same year, Virginia&#8217;s Board of Health <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/va-politics\/va-board-adopts-strict-abortion-clinic-rules\/2013\/04\/12\/fb60d3ca-a35f-11e2-82bc-511538ae90a4_story.html\">enacted strict regulations<\/a> on abortion facilities that were later <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/virginia-board-health-eliminates-regulations-abortion-clinics\/\">removed<\/a>\u00a0in 2016 when then-Governor Terry McAuliffe replaced the board members with pro-abortion activists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/roe-v-wade-dont-support\/\">Roe v. Wade legalized abortion on demand\u2026 and Americans don\u2019t support that<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to eliminating safety standards, Delegate Kathy Tran\u2019s proposal would eliminate, according to Virginia&#8217;s Legislative Information System, \u201call the procedures and processes, including the performance of an ultrasound, required to effect a woman&#8217;s informed written consent to the performance of an abortion,\u201d as well as removing Virginia\u2019s 24-hour waiting period, and making the abortions elective rather than out of a perceived medical \u201cnecessity.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Great start to my week! In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/all-releases\/2019\/january\/headline-837676-en.html\">state of the Commonwealth<\/a> address on January 9th, he said: \u201cI\u2019m proposing that we put into the Code of Virginia that a woman has the fundamental right to make her own health care decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A similar bill that came up the previous year subsequently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.richmond.com\/news\/virginia\/government-politics\/general-assembly\/abortion-bills-die-in-general-assembly-committee\/article_d1c89b7d-7c94-5b81-953b-7ac47230ec2a.html\">died in committee<\/a>.
