It took 50 years for Planned Parenthood to again name a doctor as president, and just as with Planned Parenthood&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-population-control-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous appointment<\/a>, Alan F. Guttmacher, a specific agenda appears to be behind the decision to appoint as president Dr. Leana Wen. The taxpayer-funded corporation is suffering from a serious image problem due to its numerous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-many-abuses-reasons-defund-abortion-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scandals, abuses and fraud<\/a>, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/aidingabusers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">covering<\/a>\u00a0up for child sexual predators, and it appears Wen has been assigned the task of creating a new image of an organization whose focus is health care, <em>not<\/em> abortion.<\/p>\n<p>But Wen is sending confusing messages to media outlets who willingly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-planned-parenthood-and-friends-lend-hand-harvey-weinsteins-of-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">push<\/a> the abortion giant&#8217;s talking points. The most vivid example comes from Buzzfeed in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/emaoconnor\/planned-parenthood-leana-wen-health-care-abortion-politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent article<\/a>\u00a0with the title, &#8220;Planned Parenthood\u2019s New President Wants To Focus On Nonabortion Health Care.&#8221; Wen wasn&#8217;t pleased.<\/p>\n<p>The article title received pushback from pro-abortion supporters, causing Wen to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prez-abortion-mission\/\">course correct<\/a>\u00a0and admit that actually, Planned Parenthood&#8217;s &#8220;core mission&#8221; is abortion. In a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prez-abortion-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweets,<\/a> Wen also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrLeanaWen\/status\/1082662881689247746\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a>\u00a0on supporters to&#8221;double down and fight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion and reproductive health care&#8230;. Planned Parenthood continues to be a powerful political force across the country.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-194136\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Wen-Tweet-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Wen-Tweet-2.jpg 445w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Wen-Tweet-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Wen-Tweet-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Wen-Tweet-2-80x80.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the Buzzfeed piece, Wen announced a &#8220;listening tour of 20 Planned Parenthood affiliates&#8221; to learn how best to &#8220;add or expand nonabortion services.&#8221; This may be why Buzzfeed jumped to a wrong conclusion &#8212; one many Americans have been manipulated into falsely believing as well. Among the &#8220;nonabortion services&#8221; Wen wants to offer are&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treatment for opioid addiction<\/li>\n<li>Treatment for diabetes management<\/li>\n<li>Mental health counseling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Wen\u2019s idea to turn more Planned Parenthood affiliates into one-stop shops where you can come in for birth control, STI tests, or an abortion, and meet clinic workers prepared to diagnose and treat a range of other problems unrelated to reproduction, from diet to depression to addiction,&#8221; Buzzfeed&#8217;s\u00a0Ema O&#8217;Connor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/emaoconnor\/planned-parenthood-leana-wen-health-care-abortion-politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Diet? Depression? Addiction?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wen&#8217;s plans, according to Buzzfeed, &#8220;could involve in-house mental health counselors, which a few clinics already have, and will likely include increased training for Planned Parenthood staff on how to provide \u201ctrauma-informed care.\u201d\u00a0(But surely nothing about <em>post-abortion<\/em> trauma&#8230;.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prez-abortion-mission\/\">So much for 3%: Planned Parenthood prez says abortion \u2018our core mission\u2019<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood\u2019s attempt to reinvent itself as a \u201chealth care\u201d provider instead of an abortion vendor has been tried before. It failed.\u00a0That \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-health-care-reinvention-plan-failed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reinvention plan<\/a>\u201d was introduced by former president Pamela J. Maraldo, who was a nurse in the 1990&#8217;s. According to a <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.courant.com\/1995-04-22\/news\/9504220157_1_planned-parenthood-health-care-primary-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood staffer<\/a>, the plan was &#8220;economy-driven.\u201d\u00a0Maraldo was eventually pushed out of Planned Parenthood after board members determined that her plan hardly mentioned abortion &#8212; and Wen has no intentions of making the same mistake.<\/p>\n<p>Wen&#8217;s proposals come at a time when Planned Parenthood&#8217;s\u00a0existing health services such as pap tests, cancer screening, and contraceptive services as well as patients and facilities are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-supporters-healthcare-plummets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plummeting<\/a>&#8230;\u00a0while abortions,\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-ceo-salaries-climbing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEO salaries<\/a>, and excess revenue (profit) climbs. Also increasing are the tax dollars the abortion corporation receives in its political <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-planned-parenthood-money-laundering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">money laundering scheme<\/a>\u00a0(demonstrated in the video below) in which the corporation uses its influence to elect pro-abortion politicians, mostly Democrats, who then turn around and make certain that Planned Parenthood continues to receive half a billion dollars annually.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bK1tE74o3Q0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The sudden resignation of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-aim-largest-kick-butt-political-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">political organizer and chief<\/a>&#8221; Cecile Richards and other high ranking leaders in the organization might be causing ripples. Buzzfeed notes,\u00a0&#8220;[S]trategists and advocates on both sides of the aisle see her presidency as a pointed and purposeful departure from Richards, and one that sends a clear message&#8230;. Democratic strategists are concerned that Wen\u2019s shift to focusing on health care over politics is a sign Planned Parenthood is backing away from the fight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Democratic campaign consultant\u00a0Hank Sheinkopf called it &#8220;fatigue&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>It\u2019s a symbol of fatigue, the battle has been a tough one and they\u2019re tired. If you publicly project that you\u2019re no longer an advocate but a provider of medical services, the presumption is the bad guys will no longer beat you up because you\u2019re no longer poking a stick in their eyes all the time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Politicians are not the only ones showing concern. Live Action News recently <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documented<\/a> how vocal and very dissatisfied staffers readily exposed internal accusations of intimidation, low wages, discrimination, and a toxic working environment at Planned Parenthood. Perhaps this is why Wen suggested to Buzzfeed that she &#8220;wants to be able to\u00a0practice at Planned Parenthood clinics&#8221; and may\u00a0&#8220;perform blood tests and screenings for Planned Parenthood patients herself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wen, who once advocated transparency among physicians,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-doctors-public-relations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scrubbed<\/a> her \u201cWho\u2019s My Doctor?\u201d website shortly after being appointed head of the abortion corporation. But, not to fear, because everyone (except <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood staffers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-staffers-explain-medicaid-fraud-committed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former employees<\/a>) know how &#8220;trustworthy&#8221; Planned Parenthood is, right?<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/medical-pregnancy-centers-planned-parenthood\/\">Medical pregnancy centers fight lie that Planned Parenthood is about women\u2019s health<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wen is treading water, forced to put forward a public image of Planned Parenthood as a health care agency, all while internally the organization seems to be attempting an image makeover &#8212; all while the true agenda of Planned Parenthood continues to be <em>abortion<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>While on one hand, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland just erected a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-billboard-campaign-iowa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">billboard<\/a> that read, &#8220;I had an abortion and I&#8217;m not apologizing,&#8221; on the other hand, the mother ship seems to be attempting to refresh its image as a legitimate, diverse health care provider. And yet,\u00a0Planned Parenthood&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortion-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019 plan<\/a>\u00a0clearly lays out a focused agenda to &#8220;expand abortion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood, which ends the lives of nearly 900 preborn babies in the womb every day with abortion, is never going to be viewed as a health care agency. As Wen morphs from prestigious physician into the corporation&#8217;s &#8220;propagandist-in-chief,&#8221; she may want to heed a well-known passage of scripture, which reads, &#8220;A double minded man [or organization, for that matter]\u00a0is\u00a0unstable in all his ways.&#8221;<span class=\"p\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Planned Parenthood appears to be struggling with an identity crisis of sorts, uncertain whether to remain an abortion vendor or become a health care agency.
