In his last day acting on bills, the governor dealt a blow to the state\u2019s pro-lifers by vetoing <a href=\"https:\/\/mhealthintelligence.com\/news\/michigan-governor-vetoes-extension-of-telemedicine-abortion-ban\">SB 1198<\/a>, legislation that would have permanently banned Michigan physicians from using telemedicine to prescribe the <a href=\"http:\/\/abortionprocedures.com\">abortion<\/a> pill.<\/p>\n<p>SB 1198 sought to extend a telemed\u00a0abortion ban that initially passed in 2012, requiring physicians to conduct an in-person examination before prescribing the abortion pill. With majority support, Republican legislators\u00a0hoped to make the ban permanent law. Snyder&#8217;s veto marks a flip-flop from his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.petoskeynews.com\/news\/state-region\/snyder-oks-spending-vetoes-abortion-online-gambling-bills\/article_055ad96c-71d3-5ef4-9074-17e28062363c.html\">support of the initial bill<\/a> in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as a webcam abortion, a telemed abortion allows a doctor to prescribe the abortion pill through a webcam interaction without ever meeting the patient face to face. While Snyder vetoed the bill <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/MIGOV\/2018\/12\/28\/file_attachments\/1130270\/Veto%20Letter%201198.pdf\">with the claim<\/a> that patients in rural areas need access to &#8220;safe and proper medical care,&#8221; experience has shown that the abortion pill is far from &#8220;safe&#8221; care. The pill has been responsible for at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm492705.htm\">22 deaths<\/a> since it was approved in 2000, with countless other women suffering serious complications, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/UCM603000.pdf\">nearly 600 women<\/a> who experienced so much blood loss that they needed a transfusion. Many women are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/hey-teen-vogue-these-15-women-taking-abortion-pill-nothing-like-period\/\">continuing<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/3-women-abortion-pill-horro\/\">speak out<\/a> about their <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bled-40-days-abortion-pill\/\">frightening experiences<\/a> with the abortion pill. Despite these\u00a0alarming statistics and stories, the abortion lobby touts the pill as safe enough to take without in-person interaction with a physician, and is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-tweets-diy-abortion-safe\/\">beginning to push<\/a> for wholly <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-pushing-home-abortions\/\">self-administered<\/a> medication abortions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-pushing-home-abortions\/\">The abortion industry is now pushing dangerous home abortions<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Right to Life of Michigan added a <a href=\"https:\/\/rlmblog.blogspot.com\/2019\/01\/farewell-to-rick-snyder.html\">statement<\/a> to its website, emphasizing the danger of eliminating in-person physician visits: &#8220;The abortionist never once examines the patient. This makes it cheaper for Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities to give out the abortion pill without having a doctor on staff, and more dangerous for the woman because of an even starker lack of necessary follow-up care.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The organization added in <a href=\"https:\/\/rlmblog.blogspot.com\/2018\/11\/bill-would-make-webcam-abortion-ban.html\">another statement<\/a>,&#8221;\u00a0Telemedicine may be fine when you have to call up your busy family practice doctor you&#8217;ve seen for years for a fever or skin condition, but abortion should be treated more seriously than that. Planned Parenthood ran a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtl.org\/prolife_issues\/PlannedParenthoodagenda.htm\">profit<\/a>\u00a0of nearly $100 million dollars according to their latest annual report, but their idea of increasing access to &#8216;healthcare&#8217; for women is cutting corners and making an even bigger mockery of the doctor-patient relationship for abortion procedures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Snyder&#8217;s veto marks a disappointing end to his eight years in office.
