{"id":191195,"date":"2018-11-15T19:13:19","date_gmt":"2018-11-16T01:13:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=191195"},"modified":"2018-11-15T19:13:40","modified_gmt":"2018-11-16T01:13:40","slug":"ohio-house-heartbeat-abortions-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ohio-house-heartbeat-abortions-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio House votes to ban abortions &#8216;after fetal heartbeat is detected&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Today, by a vote of 58-35, the Ohio House passed an abortion bill which the <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.cincinnati.com\/amp\/2011075002?__twitter_impression=true\">Cincinnati Enquirer says<\/a> &#8220;would effectively ban abortions after the first six weeks of a woman&#8217;s pregnancy\u00a0by penalizing doctors who perform\u00a0abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected.&#8221; The Republican majority in the House passed the bill knowing the risks: Governor John Kasich, a Republican who vetoed the previous Heartbeat Bill that made it to his desk, could very well veto it again if it comes up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesreporter.com\/news\/20181108\/mike-dewine-fired-up-ready-to-go-on-day-one-as-governor\/1\">before he leaves office<\/a>&#8230; or the state Senate could refuse to take up the bill at all.<\/p>\n<p>However, if the Senate does end up taking up the abortion legislation and it passes, the Enquirer notes, &#8220;To override a Kasich veto, the Ohio House would need 60 votes \u2013 two more than the 58 who supported the proposal Thursday.&#8221; This could be a challenge, because seven Republicans reportedly voted <em>against<\/em> the Heartbeat Bill in the House:\u00a0&#8220;Reps. Marlene Anielski and Nathan Manning from Northeast Ohio; Rick\u00a0Carfagna, Mike Duffey, Anne Gonzales, and Scott Ryan from Central Ohio and Steve Arndt of Port Clinton.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-trimester-babies-complex\/\">First trimester babies aren\u2019t blobs of tissue \u2014 they\u2019re amazingly complex<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lone Democrat, Rep.
