Benjamin Watson, tight end for the New Orleans Saints, made a memorable announcement in his end zone celebration on Sunday. When the Saints faced off against the Los Angeles Rams, Watson had plenty to keep him busy on the field, including three receptions for 62 yards (and popping a dislocated finger back into place<\/a>!). But, despite all those distractions, when he scored a touchdown, he took the opportunity to make what\u2019s been called<\/a> \u201cthe greatest pregnancy announcement in history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Watson stunned fans by putting the football under his shirt mimicking a pregnant belly and holding up seven fingers. Watson and his wife, Kirsten, have five children, so people weren\u2019t sure what to make of the additional two fingers. Sure enough, Watson confirmed<\/a> after the game that his wife Kirsten is 13 weeks pregnant with twins.<\/p>\n

Watson explained to the New Orleans Advocate<\/a>, “I always put the five up for my kids. So we’re adding two more. As I did it, I saw my wife in the stands and I kinda pointed at her and waved. She was OK with my announcing. Now everybody knows we’re about to be the Watson seven.”<\/p>\n

He told the Advocate why his family decided to make such a public display for the pregnancy announcement, saying, “We have had a few miscarriages over the past years, so it’s been really tough. We tried one more time … We wanted to share that. We want people to pray for us. We want to be open about it and we are excited. You never know when you’re going to score again.”<\/p>\n

Kirsten has shared openly<\/a> about how difficult the miscarriages were and how hard it has been for her to grieve the loss of two children. After all the attention of Sunday\u2019s pregnancy announcement, Watson tweeted<\/a>, \u201cThanks for all the congratulatory messages. We are excited about the new additions! Please keep us in your prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Watson has been outspoken about his pro-life beliefs and has publicly donated to pro-life causes. Earlier this year, the Watson family donated<\/a> ultrasound machines to crisis pregnancy centers. Watson said the ultrasound machines \u201callow expecting mothers and fathers\u2026to see the precious life God has given them reminding them of its dignity, beauty and value.\u201d<\/p>\n
