The Netflix series Big Mouth<\/a>\u00a0recently produced an episode which glorified abortion business Planned Parenthood, touting the organization’s\u00a0debunked and misleading<\/a>\u00a0statistic claiming that abortion only comprises 3% of the services it offers. The show, targeted at teens and created by Nick Kroll, Jennifer Flackett, Mark Levin, and Andrew Goldberg, has been described<\/a> by The Atlantic as “a raucous, delightfully vulgar exploration of puberty” that “never shied away from the grotesque banalities of adolescence. It\u2019s a putrid circus of fluttering stomachs, tonsil hockey, and masturbation.”<\/p>\n

Kroll has admitted that the show, directed at young teens, is “dirty,” but told<\/a> AV, “Yes, I believe that the show\u2019s incredibly dirty, and if you told me your 13-year-old wasn\u2019t allowed to watch it, I\u2019d be like, sure, I get it. But your 13-year-old is very likely watching or has access to much more crazy, dirty, and disgusting things on the internet that are much less aware of the messages they\u2019re putting out into the world…. The whole reason we made the show is because we believe that the more that this stuff around puberty and sexuality is talked about, the healthier people will be.”<\/p>\n

According to a review<\/a> by Karen Townsend at Newsbusters, episode 5 begins when “Coach Steve (Nick Kroll) is newly sexually active and boasts about it to the sex education class he is teaching….”<\/p>\n

As STDs and unwanted pregnancies were brought up, one student suggests that Steve go to a Planned Parenthood for more information. When he asks, \u201cWhat\u2019s Planned Parenthood?\u201d Jay Bilzerian (Jason Mantzoukas) answers, as many of us would, by saying, \u201cIt\u2019s an abortion factory.\u201d He says he was told that by his father, a lawyer who regularly drops his receptionists off there. Ugh. Two of the girls, Missy Foreman-Greenwald (Jenny Slate) and Jessi Glaser (Jessi Klein), gave credence to the standard liberal feminist line that Planned Parenthood provides cancer screening and “they save lives.” Jay\u2019s response is to ironically question, \u201cBy killing babies?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The episode progresses to various sketches promoting Planned Parenthood. Andrew\u2019s (John Mulaney) mother daydreams about her younger days and we follow her hooking up with a one night stand, discovering she’s pregnant, going to Planned Parenthood for an abortion, and getting into a fender bender with the man who turns out to be Andrew’s dad on the way home, all while the upbeat song \u201cGroove Is in the Heart\u201d plays.<\/em><\/p>\n
