Several Guttmacher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/about\/board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">board members<\/a> have past Planned Parenthood connections.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Board Chair Lou Turner Zellner was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/4913\/9620\/1413\/PPFA_AR_2012_121812_vF.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former<\/a> treasurer of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).<\/li>\n<li>Past Chair Mary Shallenberger was <a href=\"https:\/\/liveaction.org\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/2006-2007-Planned-Parenthood-Annual-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vice chair<\/a> of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s alumni association.<\/li>\n<li>Audit Committee Chair\u00a0Deborah DeWitt is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pathfinder.org\/staff-members\/deborah-de-witt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former<\/a> Planned Parenthood director, vice chair, and treasurer.<\/li>\n<li>Vice Chair Nozer Sheriar\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wd2016.org\/speaker\/nozer-sheriar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> served on the boards of International Planned Parenthood Federation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A quick search on LinkedIn reveals additional Guttmacher staffers with former ties to the abortion corporation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"pv-top-card-section__name inline t-24 t-black t-normal\">Gustavo Suarez: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/gustavo-suarez-a15a034\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currently<\/a> Communications Director at Guttmacher Institute, formerly Managing Director of Media Relations for PPFA.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"pv-top-card-section__name inline t-24 t-black t-normal\">Ellie Witwer: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ellie-witwer-mph-1905122a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currently<\/a> Research Associate at Guttmacher Institute, formerly assistant manager at Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"pv-top-card-section__name inline t-24 t-black t-normal\">Patrice Williams: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/patrice-williams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currently<\/a> Research Assistant at Guttmacher Institute, formerly\u00a0Youth Rising fellow at Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In like manner, Planned Parenthood has hired a former Guttmacher staffer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"pv-top-card-section__name inline t-24 t-black t-normal\">Carolyn Cox:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/carolyn-cox-5287181b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currently<\/a>\u00a0Public Policy Manager at Planned Parenthood and formerly research assistant for Guttmacher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These shared hires between Guttmacher and Planned Parenthood become really interesting when you look at the broader historical relationship between these two organizations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guttmacher Institute&#8217;s founder was a former Planned Parenthood President:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Guttmacher Institute was named after Dr.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-prez-alan-guttmacher-population-control-coercion-limiting-births\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alan F. Guttmacher<\/a>, a former VP of the eugenics society and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/1973-video-former-planned-parenthood-eugenicist-president-responds-roe\/\">one time president of Planned Parenthood<\/a>. The Institute\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/who-was-alan-guttmacher\">described<\/a>\u00a0him by saying, \u201cNo one was better able to unite the Planned Parenthood organization or summon it to carry out its historic mission.\u201d It was under A.F. The organization was later considered the watchdog agency over federally funded family planning programs, according to an <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalcollections.baylor.edu\/cdm\/ref\/collection\/buioh\/id\/2388\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with Guttmacher&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/news-release\/2014\/guttmacher-institute-mourns-passing-jeannie-i-rosoff-former-president-and-ceo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former<\/a> President and CEO, Jeannie I. Rosoff.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>So foundations wanted to have some kind of watchdog, policy oriented group to ride herd on the process. They did not think Planned Parenthood could be it because it was too self-involved. They also didn\u2019t want to create a new entity because they thought, \u2015My god, they would have to support it forever. So the compromise was that they would give the money to Planned Parenthood but under the condition that some entity, which eventually became the Alan Guttmacher Institute, be organized within Planned Parenthood. It would have a separate name. It would have a separate address. It would have a separate national advisory board, even though the board of Planned Parenthood would still have the legal authority. And that\u2018s what existed between maybe 1968 and 1978, when AGI became totally independent\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>But that is the same group that had both the Planned Parenthood political function, the lobbying function in\u00a0Washington\u2014I mean writing legislation, lobbying legislation\u2014and the AGI technical assistance function.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Guttmacher Institute is a former &#8220;special affiliate&#8221; of Planned Parenthood:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Live Action News has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-independent-is-guttmacher-from-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> detailed how, in past years, the media correctly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-independent-is-guttmacher-from-planned-parenthood\/\">referred<\/a>\u00a0to Guttmacher as a \u201cdivision of Planned Parenthood.\u201d As early as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stopp.org\/PPFAReports\/PPFA1998-99006.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1998<\/a>, past issues of Planned Parenthood\u2019s own annual reports referred to Guttmacher as a \u201cspecial affiliate\u201d of Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-90416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Planned-Parenthood-affiliate-Guttmacher-1.jpg\" alt=\"Planned-Parenthood-affiliate-Guttmacher\" width=\"513\" height=\"78\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Planned-Parenthood-affiliate-Guttmacher-1.jpg 513w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Planned-Parenthood-affiliate-Guttmacher-1-300x46.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 513px) 100vw, 513px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>We enhance our mission by supporting a\u00a0<strong>special affiliate<\/strong>, The Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI), an independent, not-for-profit corporation for reproductive healthresearch, policy analysis, and public education.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Guttmacher Institute funded Planned Parenthood:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the Guttmacher Institute has defended Planned Parenthood\u2019s half a billion in taxpayer funding, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-former-research-arm-gets-millions-taxpayers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous<\/a> Live Action News report has documented how Guttmacher, which also receives\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/taxpayers-send-one-million-dollars-guttmacher-former-special-affiliate-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">taxpayer funds<\/a>, has in past years sent millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood. in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/2005-2006-Planned-Parenthood-Annual-Report.pdf\">2005<\/a>, <strong>$7.9 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guttmacher currently funded by PPFA&#8217;s Board Chair and pro-abortion organizations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Guttmacher hasn&#8217;t just received funding from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/taxpayers-send-one-million-dollars-guttmacher-former-special-affiliate-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US taxpayers.<\/a>\u00a0 The research organization has also been propped up by abortion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/annual-report\/donors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proponents<\/a>, including\u00a0George Soros&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensocietyfoundations.org\/sites\/default\/files\/repro_20050101.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Society<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-pushing-home-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gynuity Health Projects<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/foundation-fraud-millions-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JPB Foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/?s=David+and+Lucile+Packard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David and Lucile Packard<\/a> Foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/american-college-obstetricians-gynecologists-pro-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Society of Family Planning<\/a>,\u00a0and others.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, Guttmacher also received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/page_files\/2017_audited_financials_statement.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funding<\/a> from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/annual-report-2017\/donors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Soros family members<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1997\/08\/17\/style\/jonathan-soros-and-jennifer-allan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jennifer and Jonathan Allan Soros<\/a>, as well as Planned Parenthood&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/our-leadership\/naomi-aberly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">current<\/a> Board Chair,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-aim-largest-kick-butt-political-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Naomi Aberly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, Guttmacher is frequently assumed to be a non-biased authority on reproductive health research &#8212;
