(Life Site News<\/a>)\u00a0National Public Radio nixed using the terms \u201cabortionist\u201d and \u201cabortion doctor\u201d to reference convicted murderer and late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell when producers of the forthcoming Gosnell movie tried to purchase NPR airtime sponsorship to promote the film.<\/p>\n

NPR\u2019s decision to prohibit the language follows years of obstacles faced by filmmakers in getting the Gosnell story told beyond the pro-life community.<\/p>\n

The film, Gosnell: The Trial of America\u2019s Biggest Serial Killer, is set for release in October<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Leaked emails show that NPR leadership insisted the term \u201cabortionist\u201d be changed to \u201cdoctor,\u201d The Daily Beast reported<\/a>. When producers offered the compromise terminology of \u201cabortion doctor,\u201d NPR still refused.<\/p>\n

Gosnell executive producer John Sullivan, ready to drop as much as six figures for a sponsorship for NPR\u2019s Peabody Award-winning weekday interview program,\u00a0Fresh Air, wrote his ad copy to address a key question for potential viewers, according to the report: Who is Gosnell?<\/p>\n

Sullivan\u2019s proposed ad read:<\/p>\n

\u201cSupport for this NPR program comes from the film\u00a0Gosnell: The Trial of America\u2019s Biggest Serial Killer. The film is the true story of abortionist Kermit Gosnell. A story the mainstream media tried to cover up because it reveals the truth about abortion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Together with other edits, the NPR response stated, \u201cThe word \u2018abortionist\u2019 will also need to be changed to the neutral word \u2018doctor.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Sullivan, who also co-directed Dinesh D\u2019Souza\u2019s successful first two documentaries<\/a>, then suggested \u201cabortion doctor,\u201d considering the term to be both descriptive and neutral morally.<\/p>\n

NPR said no. It was \u201cPhiladelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell\u201d or nothing.<\/p>\n

This was not going to fly for the filmmakers, who have faced<\/a> inordinate odds and worked for years to tell the story of the notorious abortionist<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur movie isn\u2019t about a podiatrist or a cardiologist or a proctologist,\u201d producer Phelim McAleer said. \u201cIt\u2019s specifically about a doctor who performs abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pro-life supporters who followed the Gosnell<\/a> \u201cHouse of Horrors<\/a>\u201d saga know the infamous abortionist\u2019s trial was ignored by the media.<\/p>\n

The makers of Gosnell: The Trial of America\u2019s Biggest Serial Killer<\/a> have faced challenges<\/a> in the media<\/a> as well, along with<\/a> the legal system<\/a> and abortion-friendly<\/a>\u00a0Hollywood. The judge at the Gosnell trial, Jeffrey Minehart, sued last year<\/a> to block the release of the film, alleging the movie and the book<\/a> written by the producers it was based upon slandered his integrity.<\/p>\n

The film was funded by a record-breaking crowdfunding campaign, and every major distributor in Hollywood rejected it<\/a>. Producers reached a deal with independent distributor GVN Releasing, announced earlier this past summer after the legal matter with Minehart was resolved.<\/p>\n

GVN will open the film<\/a> in as many as 750 theaters next month, with DVD and Blu-ray disc sales and streaming deals to follow.<\/p>\n
