(Newsbusters<\/a>)\u00a0The majority of young millennial women reject unrestricted abortion, refuse a \u201cfeminist\u201d identity, and indicate trust issues with the media \u2013 according to a poll by the media.<\/p>\n

In anticipation of the upcoming midterm elections, CBS<\/a> and Refinery29<\/a> teamed up for a poll concerning young American women\u2019s voting trends and views on certain issues. They began publicizing it August 13. While some media reports<\/a> of the findings focused more on the political aspects, such as the Trump Administration, the poll revealed much more. Namely, that many young women don\u2019t fit the mold that the media and politicians often assume.<\/p>\n

Abortion<\/strong><\/p>\n

The poll, conducted by YouGov, looked at women from the ages of 18 to 35 and found that only 28% want abortion \u201clegal in all cases.\u201d Other results included: 34% want abortion \u201clegal in most cases,\u201d 25% want abortion \u201cillegal in most cases,\u201d and 13% want abortion \u201cillegal in all cases.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the end, that means 72% are likely in favor of some kind of abortion restriction. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Regarding Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court case that legalized abortion on a federal level in the U.S., 69% of young women said it should not be overturned and 31% said it should be.<\/p>\n

But less than half (45%) worried that \u201caccess to abortion will become more restricted.\u201d 26% worried that \u201caccess to abortion will be less restricted,\u201d and 29% were \u201cunconcerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

That contradicts the talking points of those like feminist icon Gloria Steinem, who says<\/a> no abortion means \u201cno democracy\u201d for women, and former Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards who insists<\/a> that women \u201care not free\u201d without abortion. That even opposes the narrative of the broadcast networks that regularly describe<\/a> abortion as \u201cwomen\u2019s health care services.\u201d<\/p>\n

Young women beg to differ.<\/p>\n

Feminism<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than half of the millennial women surveyed refused to identify as feminists. While 46% considered themselves feminists, 54% did not. That\u2019s likely because, while the feminist movement claims to advance all women, it excludes and shuns successful women<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Feminists such as Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti, attack pro-life and conservative women and even accuse them<\/a> of \u201cappropriating feminist rhetoric.\u201d<\/p>\n

Young women were also divided on the #MeToo movement. 50% said the #MeToo movement would \u201cwill make things\u201d in the longer term \u201cbetter for women.\u201d The other 50% said things either \u201cwon\u2019t change much\u201d or make things \u201cworse.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Media<\/strong><\/p>\n

The poll reported that only 7% of them trust the media to \u201calmost always\u201d give \u201caccurate information.\u201d 25% said \u201cmost of the time,\u201d 42% said \u201conly sometimes,\u201d and 26% said \u201calmost never.\u201d<\/p>\n

They aren\u2019t alone \u2013 other polls show Americans in general are also aware of bias<\/a> in the media. And this poll only adds to the reasons why that might be: while women\u2019s news sites regularly assume<\/a> that all \u201cwomen\u201d support abortion and feminism, that\u2019s not the case.<\/p>\n
