But it&#8217;s not being funded primarily by the state. Instead, two pro-abortion philanthropic organizations have pledged their support to the tune of nearly $20 million. According to the website <a href=\"https:\/\/stateofreform.com\/featured\/2018\/08\/qa-marj-plumb-of-the-womens-foundation-of-california-on-sb-320\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">StateofReform.com<\/a>, SB320 needed at least $9.6 million in private funding &#8220;made available to a state fund January 1, 2019,&#8221; to move forward. As the bill is moving forward, it is relevant to ask who is behind those funds: &#8220;[T]he Funders\u2019 Collaborative, led by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tarahealthfoundation.org\/\">Tara Health Foundation<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/womensfoundca.org\/\">The Women\u2019s Foundation of California<\/a>, committed just under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stateofreform.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Tara-Health-Foundation-Letter.pdf\">$20 million in funds<\/a>\u00a0to ensure that it will move forward at no cost to the state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/stateofreform.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Tara-Health-Foundation-Letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> from TARA to the Chair of the California Appropriations Committee, TARA and The Womens Foundation &#8220;have collectively committed to just under $20 million dollars in implementation funds ready to be deployed as soon as this important bill becomes law. All of the funders will make donations to a California nonprofit organization that will be responsible for providing the $9.6 million to the California Commission&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>$200,000 grants to each of 34 public university student health centers<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>$200,000 grants to each of the 2 public university systems (UC and CSU)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>$2.4 million to CCSWG for administering the fund<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>An additional $9.875 million dollars will be provided directly to appropriate technical assistance<\/em><br \/>\n<em> advisors, and an evaluation team, as well as directly funding grants of $200,000 each for any<\/em><br \/>\n<em> community colleges or private universities that wish to become ready to provide medication<\/em><br \/>\n<em> abortion at their student health center.<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_187129\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-187129\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-187129\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/TARA-Health-foundation-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus.jpg\" alt=\"Image: TARA Health foundation funds abortion pill on college campus\" width=\"540\" height=\"541\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/TARA-Health-foundation-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus.jpg 540w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/TARA-Health-foundation-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/TARA-Health-foundation-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/TARA-Health-foundation-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/TARA-Health-foundation-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus-500x500.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-187129\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>TARA Health foundation funds abortion pill on college campus<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>TARA Health Foundation was founded by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tarahealthfoundation.org\/ruth-shaber-md-board-president-executive-director\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruth Shaber<\/a>, an OB\/GYN who held research positions at Kaiser Permanente. According to her online\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tarahealthfoundation.org\/ruth-shaber-md-board-president-executive-director\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bio<\/a>, she sits on the Medical Advisory Committee for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/abortioncorporation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood Federation of America<\/a>.\u00a0Shaber is also the chairman of the board of TARA&#8217;s\u00a0Reproductive Health Investors Alliance, which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tarahealthfoundation.org\/grantees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partners<\/a>\u00a0with abortion organizations like\u00a0Planned Parenthood, and has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tarahealthfoundation.org\/planned-parenthood-federation-of-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">granted<\/a>\u00a0them $3.35 million.<\/p>\n<p>Shaber claims the mission of TARA consists of &#8220;engaging peers to join in piloting and demonstrating the use of creative philanthropic capital to drive social and financial returns.&#8221; Those &#8220;social&#8221; returns include abortion on demand. According to its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tarahealthfoundation.org\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>, in 2014, Shaber named the foundation &#8220;after the goddess Tara in order to invoke the strength and compassion of a powerful female deity.\u00a0Tara,\u00a0a Hindu goddess later adopted in Buddhism, embodies both fierceness and maternal protection for all beings. Though on paper, the Women&#8217;s Foundation advocates for a number of causes impacting women, the Foundation also gives <a href=\"https:\/\/womensfoundca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/WFC-2016-PDC-signed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grants<\/a> to nonprofits that advance &#8220;reproductive rights&#8221; &#8212; code for abortion on demand.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_187127\" style=\"width: 533px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-187127\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-187127\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Womens-Foundation-California-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Womens Foundation California funds abortion pill on college campus (Image credit: Twitter) \" width=\"523\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Womens-Foundation-California-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus.jpg 523w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Womens-Foundation-California-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus-300x246.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Womens-Foundation-California-funds-abortion-pill-on-college-campus-500x410.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 523px) 100vw, 523px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-187127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Womens Foundation California funds abortion pill on college campus (Image credit: Twitter)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/stateofreform.com\/featured\/2018\/08\/qa-marj-plumb-of-the-womens-foundation-of-california-on-sb-320\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marj Plumb,\u00a0DrPH,<\/a> Chief Strategist of Policy Advocacy and Training at The Women\u2019s Foundation, SB 320 came out of\u00a0a training program called the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/womensfoundca.org\/policy\/wpi\/\">Women\u2019s Policy Institute<\/a>.\u00a0Plumb\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stateofreform.com\/featured\/2018\/08\/qa-marj-plumb-of-the-womens-foundation-of-california-on-sb-320\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> StateofReform.com:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>One of our teams a couple years ago had heard of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2018\/02\/students-fighting-to-make-abortion-services-mandatory-on-college-campuses-sb-320-2\/\">UC Berkeley effort<\/a>\u00a0[to petition the University to offer medication abortions at the campus health center] and felt that there needed to be a state law that required the state university health centers to provide medication abortion. So they partnered with Senator Leyva who helped to write the bill language and do the advocacy&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Primarily, The Women\u2019s Foundation of California and Tera Health Foundation&#8230;helped to implement both medication and other types of abortion at Kaiser and at other facilities. Then we have other funders who are participating with us, several of whom wish to remain anonymous.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>TARA\u2019S philanthropy was recently used to prop up the abortion chain Whole Woman\u2019s Health (WWH) while they raised legal challenges to Texas\u2019s abortion laws, taking it all the way to the Supreme Court. An\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu\/article\/gender-lens-investing-dr-ruth-shaber\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a>\u00a0Shaber conducted with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Shaber explained:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>One example of how we\u2019re using capital in an integrated fashion and creatively is in how we\u2019ve supported Whole Woman\u2019s Health, an organization of clinics led by Amy Hagstrom Miller&#8230; because of the burden of the litigation, they needed to open and close their clinics multiple times. As a result, they had a large amount of debt, and the only place they were able to get capital from was high-interest credit card debt. When we got involved in supporting them&#8230;giving them a grant, we were able to do this private debt. It\u2019s giving us a 3% return over five years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PDA3_ez5bCI\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Recent FDA reports indicate that almost a dozen women have <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-abortion-pill-deaths-hospitalizations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died<\/a> from the abortion pill and a thousand have been hospitalized. Women suffering adverse effects of the abortion pill may claim to hospital emergency rooms that they are experiencing miscarriages rather than medication abortion complications &#8212; and this can skew the real numbers of reported complications, which may have a tremendous impact on the safety of vulnerable young women.<\/p>\n<p>College campuses should not be partners in killing off future generations. And no matter how much money is raised, abortion will never be a good solution for women.<\/p>\n<h6>Editor&#8217;s Note: FDA has received reports of serious adverse events in women who took mifepristone. As of June 30, 2021, there were reports of 26 deaths of women associated with mifepristone since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy located outside the womb, such as in the fallopian tubes) resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal. The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient.
