Watch to learn more:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/T3KFXqOCE7c\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/subverted.liveaction.org\">SUBVERTED: How the sexual revolution hijacked feminism<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In his biography, Lader said Sanger&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/legacy-of-death-abortion-eugenics-euthanasia-groups-shared-board-members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obsession<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-founder-margaret-sanger-spoke-ku-klux-klan-supported-eugenics-organization-still-honor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eugenics<\/a>\u00a0(an ideology the two shared) originated with her introduction to Henry Havelock Ellis in 1914, a psychologist and author of several books on sex, with whom Sanger was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyu.edu\/projects\/sanger\/aboutms\/index.php\">rumored<\/a> to have had an affair. At the time Lader&#8217;s biography was published, it received some favorable reviews with Sanger herself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyu.edu\/projects\/sanger\/articles\/writing_sangers_life.php\">arranging<\/a>\u00a0book signings. It was also reportedly distributed through Planned Parenthood offices.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_177399\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-177399\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-177399\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Larry-Lader-abortion-advocate.jpg\" alt=\"Lawrence (Larry) Lader\" width=\"190\" height=\"248\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-177399\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lawrence (Larry) Lader<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But, in co-authoring his second book on Sanger, Lader can be credited for remaking her from a eugenic fanatic into, as Planned Parenthood describes her, a heroine.\u00a0Thanks to Lader, Sanger &#8220;the eugenicist&#8221; became known instead as Sanger &#8220;the birth control pioneer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lader&#8217;s books barely mention the word eugenics and certainly fail to connect the evil philosophy to Sanger. But the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-connections-to-eugenics\/\">Planned Parenthood<\/a> founder <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-founder-spoke-to-kkk-but-photo-is-fake\/\">admitted<\/a>\u00a0to meeting with members of the Ku Klux Klan, openly\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maafa21.com\">advocated<\/a> eugenics, and supported the use of sterilization to rid the planet of the \u201cunfit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forced sterilization as a permanent solution was, in Sanger&#8217;s mind, a preferred solution to procreation of the so-called &#8220;unfit&#8221; over abortion.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_176911\" style=\"width: 328px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-176911\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-176911 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Margaret-Sanger-Story-by-Lawrence-Lader.jpg\" alt=\"Planned Parenthood founder's 'Margaret Sanger Story' by Lawrence Lader\" width=\"318\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Margaret-Sanger-Story-by-Lawrence-Lader.jpg 318w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Margaret-Sanger-Story-by-Lawrence-Lader-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-176911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Margaret Sanger Story by Lawrence Lader<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In his push for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/photos\/lawrence-lader?autocorrect=none&amp;family=editorial&amp;mediatype=photography&amp;phrase=lawrence%20lader&amp;sort=mostpopular\">legalizing<\/a> the abortion pill RU486, Lader <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=XlmTcPFMS0oC&amp;q=RU486+Lawrence+Lader&amp;dq=RU486+Lawrence+Lader&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjtgNepvK3YAhUI0YMKHf2kA4QQ6AEIOjAD\">recounted<\/a> that Sanger had &#8220;skimpy&#8221; knowledge about abortion and claimed the topic caused a split between the two. &#8220;Ironically, I would eventually split with Margaret over abortion &#8211; only in a theoretical sense since, by 1963, she was too ill to carry on our old discussions,&#8221; Lader wrote in &#8220;Abortion II.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Margaret had always <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-planned-parenthood-abortion-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposed abortion<\/a>&#8230;. Naturally, she was right in the context of her time,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/1995-11-30\/news\/ls-8883_1_lawrence-lader\">LA Times<\/a>, Lader had observed Sanger&#8217;s strong <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-planned-parenthood-abortion-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition<\/a> to abortion, &#8220;seeing the horrors of the women on the Lower East Side, with $5 in their hands, submitting themselves to butchers.&#8221; To <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-planned-parenthood-abortion-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sanger<\/a>, &#8220;birth control was a solution to abortion,&#8221;\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Lader<\/span>\u00a0realized.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lader&#8217;s abortion activism birthed with Sanger\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Lader&#8217;s time with the Planned Parenthood founder seems to have been the catalyst for Lader&#8217;s own abortion obsession. &#8220;I hesitated to deal with the subject after writing my biography of Margaret Sanger,&#8221; Lader wrote in &#8220;Abortion II.&#8221;\u00a0&#8220;In 1955, I evaded it again&#8230;. By 1962, I made the first step, soliciting dozens of editors to write a magazine article on abortion, but being rejected by all. He said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>I did a biography of Margaret Sanger of the birth control movement ten or twelve years ago and from that point on I&#8217;ve been extremely interested in anything that denies to women &#8212; and to men also, but basically to women &#8212; what I consider their basic right to decide whether they should or should not become a mother.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>I think this is summed up very well by a great phrase of Margaret Sanger&#8217;s which she stated, &#8216;No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her own body. In brief, I believe that the right of a woman to bear or not to bear a child is one of the basic human rights and that this cannot be taken away from her&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lader reiterated the Planned Parenthood founder&#8217;s influence in his <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=XlmTcPFMS0oC&amp;q=RU486+Lawrence+Lader&amp;dq=RU486+Lawrence+Lader&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjtgNepvK3YAhUI0YMKHf2kA4QQ6AEIOjAD\">book<\/a>,\u00a0&#8220;RU486.&#8221; He wrote (emphasis added), &#8220;My first book on Margaret Sanger indicated I had a feminist bent. Three crowded years of talking and working with Sanger had completely convinced me that a woman&#8217;s freedom in education, jobs, marriage, her whole life, could only be achieved when she gained control of her childbearing. <strong>I came gradually to understand that birth control required abortion as a backup measure when contraception failed or wasn&#8217;t used at all<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the <em>Roe<\/em> decision, Lader took part in an illegal underground abortion referral service called the &#8220;Clergyman&#8217;s Consultation Service on Abortion,&#8221; founded by the Reverend Howard Moody. Lader made more than 2,000 referrals for women seeking illegal abortions while participating in this &#8220;service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then, in 1967, Lader, along with former abortionist Bernard Nathanson (who later <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bernard-nathanson-abortion-pro-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">became<\/a>\u00a0pro-life) hijacked Betty Friedan&#8217;s 1960&#8217;s women&#8217;s movement and influenced the so-called feminist icon to add a pro-abortion plank to the National Organization for Women (NOW), which she founded. Soon after, in 1969, Lader helped Nathanson to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/oasis.lib.harvard.edu\/oasis\/deliver\/~sch00781\">found<\/a> NARAL, originally called the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, and remained active until 1976, when Lader left NARAL for reasons &#8220;no one chooses to discuss,&#8221; as the LA Times <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/1995-11-30\/news\/ls-8883_1_lawrence-lader\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Larry Lader, rightly\u00a0dubbed\u00a0the\u00a0&#8220;father of the abortion rights movement,&#8221; influenced the women&#8217;s movement of the 1960s to push abortion.
