{"id":186432,"date":"2018-08-08T12:16:40","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T17:16:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=186432"},"modified":"2021-07-14T21:28:03","modified_gmt":"2021-07-15T02:28:03","slug":"naral-abortion-pill-reversal-experimentation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/naral-abortion-pill-reversal-experimentation\/","title":{"rendered":"Abortion group slams abortion pill reversal, applauds harvesting baby parts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/pro-abortion-org.-slams-abortion-reversal-as-human-experimentation-but-back\">LifeSiteNews<\/a>) The abortion lobby\u2019s hostility to abortion pill reversal is well known, but a recent tweet by pro-abortion organization NARAL may set a new standard for hypocrisy.<\/p>\n<p>The Mifepristone abortion\u00a0pill, or RU-486, works by blocking the natural hormone progesterone that developing babies require to survive. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.data.lifesitenews.com\/resources\/abortion\/abortion-pill-reversal\">Abortion pill reversal<\/a>\u00a0consists of administering extra progesterone to counteract mifepristone\u2019s effects, ideally within 24 hours of taking the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-group-abortion-pill-reversal\/\">READ: <em>Education on abortion pill reversal is empowering for women<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Though the practice is relatively new, its pioneers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/science-abortion-pill-reversal-works-according-to-new-study\">credit it<\/a> with helping more than 400 women save their babies since 2007, and say they have even had successes when the treatment begins within 72 hours of taking the abortion pill. Overall, they say they have seen a 55% success rate, meaning that while reversing a chemical abortion is far from certain, it has the capacity to save many babies.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, NARAL Pro-Choice America published a tweet leveling a curious charge at abortion reversal, that it constitutes \u201chuman experimentation\u201d and \u201cperpetuate[s] the myth that people who get an abortion often regret it.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cAbortion reversal\u201d is human experimentation\u2014and anti-choice zealots are using it to target women of color and perpetuate the myth that people who get an abortion often regret it. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wHCMf0mr10\">https:\/\/t.co\/wHCMf0mr10<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NARAL (@NARAL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NARAL\/status\/1024742072316817408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 1, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The tweet linked to a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/abortion-pill-reversal-myth-perpetuates-mistreatment-of-women-of-color\/\">July 28 <em>Truthout<\/em> article<\/a> by pro-abortion activist Shireen Rose Shakouri accusing abortion reversal pioneer George Delgado of engaging in \u201cmedical experimentation\u201d that\u2019s \u201clikely being pushed disproportionately on women of color.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She does not offer evidence that Delgado\u2019s trials have harmed anyone, however, nor does she support the speculation that he targeted minorities. Instead, she recalls historical horror stories of medical experiments completely unrelated to abortion or pro-lifers (she also highlights the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/news\/birth-control-pill-history-puerto-rico-enovid\">unethical trials on Puerto Rican women<\/a> used to test the first birth control pill, which pro-lifers would argue reflects more on Shakouri\u2019s side than Delgado\u2019s).<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, trials of new medical treatments is not what most people take &#8220;human experimentation&#8221; to mean. Moreover, NARAL\u2019s newfound stance against \u201cmedical experimentation\u201d stands in stark contrast to not only its support of abortion, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/amazing-new-video-illustrates-humanity-of-preborn-babies-in-womb\">ends the lives of preborn humans<\/a>, but its express support for medical experiments that entail the certainty of human death.<\/p>\n<p>NARAL <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/11.-Fetal-Tissue-Donation-and-Choice.pdf\">calls<\/a> \u201cresearch using fetal tissue\u201d \u2013 i.e., tissue taken from aborted babies \u2013 an \u201cimportant area of science\u201d that \u201chold[s] unique promise for medical research.\u201d It has also specifically invoked embryonic stem cell research \u2013 in which embryonic humans are killed to obtain stem cells \u2013 in its attacks on many pro-life policies and figures, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/report\/personhood-measures-extreme-dangerous-attempts-ban-abortion\/\">personhood laws<\/a>, former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/2017\/01\/13\/fact-sheet-rep-tom-prices-long-anti-choice-record-spells-disaster-women-health\/\">Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/2018\/04\/12\/naral-opposes-nomination-of-mike-pompeo-to-secretary-of-state\/\">Secretary of State Mike Pompeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-lying-abortion-pill-reversal\/\">READ: <em>Pro-abortion media is misleading the public about abortion pill reversal<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As for abortion defenders\u2019 insistence that abortion regret is a \u201cmyth,\u201d pro-life groups such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.data.lifesitenews.com\/resources\/abortion\/post-abortion-testimonies\">LifeSiteNews<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silentnomoreawareness.org\/testimonies\/index.aspx\">Silent No More<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rachelsvineyard.org\/emotions\/affects.aspx\">Rachel\u2019s Vineyard<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afterabortion.com\/\">After Abortion<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abortionrecovery.org\/abortionrecovery\/storiesofabortionrecovery\/tabid\/241\/Default.aspx\">Abortion Recovery International<\/a> collect many first-hand accounts of women attesting to the heartbreak they endured after their abortions.<\/p>\n<p>While abortion defenders regularly cite a 2015 study claiming 95% of women are happy about their abortions, pro-life analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/opinion\/flawed-study-claims-95-of-women-happy-after-abortion\">have questioned its methodology<\/a>.
