{"id":186280,"date":"2018-08-02T08:46:58","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T13:46:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=186280"},"modified":"2018-08-02T10:37:39","modified_gmt":"2018-08-02T15:37:39","slug":"oregon-reject-abortion-qualify","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/oregon-reject-abortion-qualify\/","title":{"rendered":"Oregon gov to reject HHS funding for state unless abortion facilities qualify"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>In a move that shows just how truly beholden to abortion she is, Oregon Governor Kate Brown has announced plans to reject all Title X family planning funding for her state if President Trump\u2019s Protect Life Rule \u2014 which bars abortion providers like Planned Parenthood from receiving Title X funding unless they meet certain conditions \u2014 is adopted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ortl.org\/2018\/07\/brown-title-x\/\">According to Oregon Right to Life<\/a>, Brown made the announcement on Monday, July 30, 2018. The group notes that the Protect Life Rule \u201cwould cut $50 to $60 million of the more than $500 million in taxpayer funding that Planned Parenthood receives annually\u201d \u2014 unless, of course, Planned Parenthood changes its business plan, providing separate facilities for its lucrative abortion business altogether. Planned Parenthood commits approximately 320,000 abortions annually \u2014 nearly 35 percent of the entire country\u2019s abortions done by one corporation alone. And yet, they still receive increasing taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">And withdraw our state\u2019s participation from an unethical, ineffective Title X program that reduces access to essential preventive health services. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qNlaNn3bpO\">https:\/\/t.co\/qNlaNn3bpO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Kate Brown (@OregonGovBrown) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OregonGovBrown\/status\/1024062152976424960?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 30, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>ORTL executive director Lois Anderson called Brown&#8217;s plan &#8220;a bizarre political stunt&#8221; which &#8220;threaten[s] the healthcare access of over 50,000&#8221; extremely low-income state residents. Bizarre, because, as Anderson points out, &#8220;This new HHS rule&#8230;\u00a0would not eliminate a dollar from preventative family planning.&#8221; Instead, that same funding would be &#8220;redirected to federally-qualified healthcare centers&#8230; [which] do not provide abortions nor share the same staff or facilities as abortion providers.\u201d For Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses, this is a problem &#8212; because most of their facilities which house &#8220;abortion services&#8221; are the same facilities where they dispense birth control.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BgB5E91lD6s\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Anderson adds that the state is in a fiscal crisis, and says this move proves, once again, that Gov. Brown &#8220;is not a friend to Oregonians, but to Planned Parenthood of Oregon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-oregon-assisted-suicide-law-loophole\/\"><strong>READ: <em>Report reveals Oregon assisted suicide law crafted with deadly loophole<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2017, Gov. Kate Brown announced that the state of Oregon would force its taxpayers to fund abortions on demand, for citizens and non-citizens alike. Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/oregon-governor-signs-bill-offering-free-abortions-to-citizens-and-undocumented-immigrants\/\">reported<\/a> at that time:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The law requires abortion coverage to Oregonians, regardless of income, gender identity, or citizenship status, and allocates roughly $500,000 over the next two years to provide abortions to undocumented immigrants.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/d885ed90a2db489881455e92dc42bf27\/Oregon-approves-measure-requiring-insurers-to-cover-abortion\">reported<\/a>: \u201cThe Oregon bill is unique\u2026 in that patients would have access to the procedure for virtually any reason, at any time, including sex-selective and late-term abortions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In what should come as no surprise, Planned Parenthood of Oregon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ppaoregon.org\/2017\/10\/25\/planned-parenthood-pac-oregon-endorses-governor-ka\/\">has endorsed<\/a> Gov.
