{"id":185404,"date":"2018-07-21T14:32:19","date_gmt":"2018-07-21T19:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=185404"},"modified":"2022-09-24T11:03:24","modified_gmt":"2022-09-24T16:03:24","slug":"fda-abortion-pill-deaths-hospitalizations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-abortion-pill-deaths-hospitalizations\/","title":{"rendered":"FDA shock: Abortion pill caused 22 deaths and a thousand hospitalizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>At least 22 women have died after taking the abortion pill regimen, RU-486, and many others have experienced serious complications, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm492705.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">updated<\/a>\u00a0data from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).\u00a0While abortion &#8212; and specifically, medication abortion &#8212; is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-safe-read-fine-print\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sold<\/a> to women as &#8220;safe,&#8221; there can be serious and life threatening complications from the abortion pill, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.earlyoptionpill.com\/important-safety-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> by the pills&#8217; manufacturer, Danco.\u00a0Although Danco is required to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/cder\/rems\/index.cfm?event=IndvRemsDetails.page&amp;REMS=35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0any death associated with Mifeprex, women experiencing complications, various factors &#8212; such as not returning to the abortion provider or not reporting use of the drug to emergency personnel &#8212; may cause these numbers to seem lower than they actually are.<\/p>\n<p>The abortion lobby is pushing for easy access to the abortion pill on college campuses and some are even\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/health\/abortion-pills-are-safe-and-effective-why-cant-u-s-women-buy-them-online-20180717.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calling<\/a> for it to be approved for home use.\u00a0No doubt, we may never know how many women suffer serious complications or succumb to death from the abortion pill if this happens. But, sometimes these chemicals also claim the lives of their mothers.\u00a0The abortion is explained by Dr. Anthony Levatino in the video below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Monte Patterson, the father of Holly Patterson, attempted to convey the dangers of the abortion pill before a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?192580-1\/ru-486-health-safety-standards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House committee<\/a> in 2006, when far fewer women had died. By the 4th day, she was admitted to the emergency room&#8230;. She complained of bleeding, cramping, constipation, and pain, but subsequently, she was sent home. Seven days after taking RU-486, Holly returned to the same emergency room hospital complaining of weakness, vomiting, abdominal pain.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Hours later, I was called to the hospital, where I found her surrounded by doctors and nurses, barely conscious and struggling to breathe. Holly was so weak she could barely hold onto my hand&#8230;. As of June 30, 2021, there were reports of 26 deaths of women associated with mifepristone since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy located outside the womb, such as in the fallopian tubes) resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal. The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient.
