The American public is told that their tax dollars do not fund abortion, but this is false. At the federal level, despite measures like the Hyde Amendment, which prohibit federal dollars from paying for abortions, taxpayers still\u00a0fund<\/a> abortions in certain instances. “Federal financial participation (FFP) is only available for abortions performed to save the life of the mother or to terminate pregnancies resulting from rape or incest,” a Medicaid spokesperson previously told<\/a> Live Action News.<\/p>\n

But this amounts to more than what it sounds like. According to Medicaid.gov<\/a>, in 2016 alone, federal dollars were used to\u00a0pay<\/a>\u00a0a total<\/a>\u00a0of nearly $50,000 for abortions at the federal level and $31,000 at the state level. However, this\u00a0figure was down substantially from previous years.<\/p>\n

Live Action News previously reported<\/a>\u00a0that according to national net expenditures\u00a0published<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Medicaid.gov<\/a>\u00a0in 2015, taxpayers funded $500,659 for abortions that year under Medicaid assistance programs. Of that total, $327,341 was paid by federal dollars and $173,318 was paid by the\u00a0states where the abortions were committed.<\/p>\n

Americans taxpayers paid even more for abortion in 2014.\u00a0The net national total of Medicaid program assistance\u00a0expenditures<\/a>\u00a0that year reveals that taxpayers paid $1,204,949 for abortions, with $604,897 picked up federally and $600,052 picked up by taxpayers within the states.<\/p>\n
