{"id":180955,"date":"2018-03-31T10:12:26","date_gmt":"2018-03-31T14:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=180955"},"modified":"2018-03-30T12:28:54","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T16:28:54","slug":"adoption-american-idol-contestant-nephew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/adoption-american-idol-contestant-nephew\/","title":{"rendered":"Adoption on &#8216;American Idol&#8217;: Contestant raising nephew says he&#8217;s &#8216;a gift&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>American Idol shared a beautiful pro-life story of adoption on the show&#8217;s Facebook page on March 19, 2018, highlighting contestant Marcio Donaldson&#8217;s decision to take in and raise his infant nephew Rashad.<\/p>\n<p>Donaldson, who is from Compton, California, shared the difficult childhood he had,\u00a0growing up around gun violence and drug use in a tough neighborhood where many children didn&#8217;t live to see age 13.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Growing up we lived in a roach infested apartment,&#8221; said Donaldson. &#8220;My mother tried her hardest, but children&#8217;s services ended up placing me and my sister in the system. So I found refuge in my music. [&#8230;] It gave me hope.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mp4LeOWNzXI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>However, he said, the cycle is always repeating itself. It started with his mother being in the system, then him, and then his sister had a child.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She couldn&#8217;t keep him. Drugs played a big factor in that because she couldn&#8217;t take care of him. The police and the social worker, they came to my home. They brought him &#8211; and here&#8217;s this week old baby &#8211; sorry,&#8221; Donaldson said through tears. &#8220;They said, &#8216;You have to decide if you will keep this child or he goes in the system.&#8217; I looked at him. I said, &#8216;I&#8217;ll take him&#8217;.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t want him to go through what I went through.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While Donaldson admits he had no idea what he was doing when he first took custody of Rashad, he calls his son &#8220;a real gift.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And it was the right decision,&#8221; he said looking at Rashad. &#8220;And he&#8217;s changed my life. [&#8230;] Now, I am not only performing for me, I&#8217;m performing for my son. I want to show him what a man can really do when you step up to the plate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Donaldson&#8217;s sister and baby Rashad could have easily become targets and victims of groups like <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/abortioncorporation\">Planned Parenthood<\/a>. 79 percent of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s surgical <a href=\"http:\/\/abortionprocedures.com\">abortion<\/a> facilities are within <a href=\"http:\/\/www.protectingblacklife.org\/pp_targets\/index.html\">walking distance of minority neighborhoods.<\/a>\u00a0Protecting Black Life, an outreach of Life Issues Institute, found that Planned Parenthood has built 22 new abortion mega-centers which directly target women of color.<\/p>\n<p>Donaldson and Rashad prove that children whom the abortion industry deems &#8220;unwanted&#8221; are actually very much wanted and loved.
