Pro-abortion groups influenced Connecticut legislators to raise\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cga.ct.gov\/2018\/TOB\/h\/2018HB-05416-R00-HB.htm\">H.B 5416:<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;An Act Concerning Deceptive Advertising Practices of Limited Services Pregnancy Centers,&#8221; without substantial evidence that clients seeking services at Connecticut pregnancy centers have been or are being deceived by their advertising. H.B 5416\u00a0offers no specifics on what language is considered deceptive, yet it would force pregnancy centers to pay for &#8216;corrective advertising&#8217; if their ads are deemed false. Pregnancy centers make it clear they don&#8217;t perform or refer for abortions but this bill denies that fact.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this bill, another bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/cga.ct.gov\/asp\/cgabillstatus\/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&amp;which_year=2018&amp;bill_num=5417\">H.B. 5417:<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;An Act Concerning End-of-Life Care,&#8221; is pushing for the legalization of assisted suicide.\u00a0Disability activists have helped to defeat assisted suicide three times in Connecticut because they know they are the targets if it becomes legal.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how you can help:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Attend the public hearing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Public Health Committee&#8217;s hearing on H.B 5416 and H.B 5417 is on\u00a0<strong>Tuesday<\/strong><b><strong>,<\/strong> March 20, 2018<\/b>\u00a0at\u00a0<b>11:00 A.M.<\/b>\u00a0in\u00a0<b>Room 2C\u00a0<\/b>of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/asp\/menu\/drivingdirections.asp\">Legislative Office Building<\/a> in Hartford, Connecticut. Sign-up for the hearing begins at <span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">9:30 A.M.<\/span><\/span> in the First Floor Atrium of the LOB. The first hour of the hearing is reserved for Legislators, Constitutional Officers, State Agency Heads and Chief Elected Municipal Officials. Speakers are limited to three minutes of testimony.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) If you are a Connecticut resident, write or email your state senator and state representatives. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Family Institute of Connecticut&#8217;s system allows you to directly email them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctfamily.org\/take-action\/action-center\/\">here<\/a>.\u00a0The Public Health Committee is accepting electronic testimony via email at\u00a0<u><a href=\"mailto:phtestimony@cga.ct.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">phtestimony@cga.ct.gov<\/a><\/u>. Please submit electronic testimony in Word or PDF format no later than <span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">12:00 P.M.<\/span><\/span> on <span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Monday, March 19, 2018<\/span><\/span>.
