{"id":178403,"date":"2018-01-30T14:01:33","date_gmt":"2018-01-30T19:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=178403"},"modified":"2018-01-29T01:41:51","modified_gmt":"2018-01-29T06:41:51","slug":"abortion-worker-gosnell-leaves-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-worker-gosnell-leaves-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-abortion worker in Gosnell&#8217;s &#8216;House of Horrors&#8217; tells of leaving industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2018\/01\/26\/ex-gosnell-employee-tells-nightmare-story-exiting-abortion\">NewsBusters<\/a>) A former <a href=\"http:\/\/abortionprocedures.com\">abortion<\/a> worker is sharing her testimony, from storing aborted babies in milk jugs to learning to sleep in the dark again, in order to tell others like her: \u201cget out.\u201d Her story focuses on one of the most-underreported major crimes in years.<\/p>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap1\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0In Washington, D.C. for the <a href=\"http:\/\/marchforlife.org\/\">March for Life<\/a>, former abortion worker Adrienne Moton spoke with MRC Culture during a Jan. 18 press conference with <a href=\"http:\/\/abortionworker.com\/\">And Then There Were None<\/a> (ATTWN). Led by former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson, the nonprofit helps clinic workers leave the abortion industry. While Moton didn\u2019t work at Planned Parenthood, her place of employment is known by many in the pro-life movement as the \u201chouse of horrors,\u201d or, the clinic of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell.<\/div>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap2\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">For her part, Moton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/Sentencing-Day-for-Several-Former-Gosnell-Abortion-Clinic-Employees-209352501.html\">served<\/a> two-and-a-half years in prison and three years probation after working under Gosnell. According to a local NBC affiliate, Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore \u201ctold the court Moton understood what she was doing at the clinic was wrong, unlike other clinic employees.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, Gosnell was <a href=\"http:\/\/cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/guilty-abortionist-gosnell-convicted-first-degree-murder-3-babies\">convicted May 2013 <\/a>of first-degree murder of three babies (while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/districtattorney\/pdfs\/grandjurywomensmedical.pdf\">the Grand Jury report<\/a>, <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/justified-actor-nick-searcy-direct-782605\">noted<\/a>, \u201calleges Gosnell killed hundreds of infants by sticking scissors into their necks\u201d). But the trial, in which witnesses like Moton <a href=\"http:\/\/cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/gosnell-trial-witness-baby-abortion-survivor-was-swimming-toilet-trying-get-out\">described<\/a> baby abortion survivors \u201cswimming&#8221; in toilets \u201cto get out,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/katie-yoder\/2013\/04\/18\/still-only-12-15-reporters-gosnell-trial\">attracted<\/a> a mere 12 \u2013 15 reporters. Only after 56 days, with pressure from both politicians and the public, did the all three broadcast networks <a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/katie-yoder\/2013\/05\/14\/first-time-all-three-networks-cover-gosnell\">report<\/a> on Gosnell.<\/p>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap5\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0Because of the lack of media coverage, filmmaker husband-and-wife team Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2016\/12\/02\/hollywood-loves-abortion-films-rejected-one-heres-why\">created a movie<\/a> \u2013\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2017\/02\/07\/nyt-best-seller-list-gosnell-ranking-not-influenced-content\">wrote a book<\/a> \u2013 of the case.<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap6\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">At the Family Research Council\u2019s Jan. 19 ProLifeCon, Abby Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/mkjHeh3Jya0\">told<\/a> the audience that Moton was an answered prayer. When Johnson first heard of Gosnell\u2019s \u201cunspeakable crimes,\u201d she wrote \u201cevery person that had been on trial and was in prison for the crimes that they were involved with in Gosnell\u2019s clinic.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>That\u2019s because, Johnson said, she was \u201cappalled\u201d by some pro-lifers who wished that those involved would die or \u201cgo to hell.\u201d Instead, she prayed that, one day, she would \u201cbe able to speak to one of them, to let them know that what was being said of them was not indicative of the entire pro-life movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three years later, her phone rang. It was Moton.<\/p>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap8\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0Moton shared her story with MRC Culture. When she first began at Gosnell\u2019s clinic, she intended to \u201cjust volunteer.\u201d She had recently left her husband and needed \u201cincome, to make a couple of dollars.\u201d <em>Video below.<\/em><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"video-filter embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"1517192327317_TBOtherPlayer_10\" class=\"video-filter video-youtube vf-9iudnpidrf0 embed-responsive-item\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9iuDnPidRf0?modestbranding=0&amp;html5=1&amp;rel=1&amp;autoplay=0&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;loop=0&amp;controls=1&amp;autohide=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;theme=dark&amp;color=red&amp;enablejsapi=0\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap9\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">But she stayed, she said, and \u201cnext thing I know, it\u2019s [been] three years.\u201d<\/div>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap10\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Before helping with abortions, she was first \u201ctrained on doing the instruments,\u201d like ultrasounds, and even \u201cstarted going to school for it.\u201d She felt she \u201cowed\u201d Gosnell while working under him \u2013\u00a0she had grown close to the Gosnell family after meeting his niece in high school.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThey helped me through high school, my prom, when my daughter was born, everything,\u201d she stressed. \u201cThey\u2019ve been there for me. I just felt like I owed them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, she said, Gosnell \u201ctaught her everything,\u201d even though she \u201cwasn\u2019t licensed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were a great team,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI became his ace, as they say, \u2018right-hand man,\u2019 and made sure everything was set up correctly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also detailed some of the bizarre practices at Gosnell\u2019s clinic. Aborted babies, she said, were stored in \u201cgallon-milk cartons where we had to, we had to cut the top of it, of course, to make the hole big enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were milk, the gallon milk jugs,\u201d she continued. \u201cThat\u2019s what we stored [them in], and we had to put them in the freezer for the biohazard people to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r5Af8vIym2o\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap17\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">After experiencing that, she left his clinic in 2008, because she started feeling a \u201cheaviness\u201d or feeling \u201cthat I just had to get out of there.\u201d<\/div>\n<div id=\"imkadwrap18\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u201cI came to a point where I knew this is not the place for me,\u201d she urged. \u201cWhat I was doing was totally wrong, and it took a toll on me physically.\u201d<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Then, from January 2011 to May 2013, she served time in prison for her work with Gosnell. When she later turned to a ministry for help, they handed her Johnson\u2019s number. From there, she joined And Then There Were None.<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">According to Moton, helping with abortions \u201cdidn\u2019t bother\u201d her at the start.<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u201cI\u2019ve had two abortions of my own,\u201d she revealed. \u201cSo I understood what the ladies were going through. I\u2019ve been in their shoes. So my thing was I have to support them.\u201d<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">But then, she said, she \u201cbecame numb with all the craziness that was going on.\u201d She added, \u201cAnd it was \u2018normal.\u2019 It was normal.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>To those still working in abortion clinics, Moton advised \u201cget out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy advice is to get out while you can. Get out while you can,\u201d she urged. \u201cDon\u2019t end up like me, where it\u2019s too late, you end up in prison. Just get out. There\u2019s help out here. There\u2019s resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Staying in the abortion industry comes with consequences, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to learn how to sleep in the dark again,\u201d she admitted. \u201cIt takes a toll on you mentally. And people that work in these clinics, they really can\u2019t talk to nobody. They just feel as though they\u2019re going to get judged and everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Americans who want to help abortion workers leave the industry, Moton stressed that \u201cwhat you say to a person\u201d and even a smile can make all the difference. Training is also important.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"image-blog_body-100 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/s3\/files\/styles\/blog_body-100\/s3\/images\/johnson_16.jpg?itok=noJrHxDL\" alt=\"\" width=\"694\" height=\"390\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s funny because there\u2019s a Planned Parenthood in my neighborhood. And I always wonder \u2018What can I do to get their attention?\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cBut I will not do it yet because I\u2019m not trained.\u201d She hoped that, later, she will \u201cbe trained to do stuff like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Workers also find difficulty leaving because of their finances: \u201cPeople got bills, people got kids, it\u2019s hard out here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>But money isn\u2019t everything. Moton elaborated on what finally pushed her to leave. Running into issues with Mrs. Gosnell, \u201cfor no apparent reason,\u201d was just the \u201cicing on the cake,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI already had that feeling where I had to get out of here,\u201d she stressed. \u201cIt was hard because I thought about income, \u2018What am I going to do?\u2019 But I gave him my two weeks [notice].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She felt better immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the best feeling in the world, the weight was lifted,\u201d she remembered. \u201cI still had little thoughts going on in my head, like I told you, I had to learn how to sleep in the dark again.\u201d But, she added, she was \u201cfree from that building,\u201d even if she wasn\u2019t \u201cfree mentally.\u201d And that, she said, \u201cwas a start.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Just once she returned \u201cjust to say hi to everybody\u201d at the clinic, but then she \u201cstayed away\u201d after that. She commented\u00a0that that decision \u201cwas the best feeling ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today, she concluded, she\u2019s \u201cgoing through my healing journey\u201d after working in the abortion industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very, I\u2019m a blessed woman,\u201d she said, with some \u201cpowerful women\u201d supporting her, likely referring to the women who are a part of And Then There Were None. \u201cI\u2019m thankful. I\u2019m thankful.
