As a former writer for Cosmopolitan Magazine, she was also complicit in promoting the sexual revolution,\u00a0which she now believes reduced women to ambitious sex objects. After years of research, Browder concluded that her thinking was being manipulated by a propaganda machine which would unite two movements &#8212; the feminist movement and the sexual revolution &#8212; to push abortion.\u00a0She compiled her findings in the captivating book, <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.liveaction.org\/products\/subverted-how-i-helped-the-sexual-revolution-hijack-the-womens-movement\">&#8220;Subverted: How I Helped the Sexual Revolution Hijack the Women&#8217;s Movement.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Browder, who was trained as an investigative journalist\u00a0at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, spoke in an interview with Live Action founder Lila Rose:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mnmwAr0xBOM\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;People don&#8217;t remember how bad it was for women&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 1963, that was the relaunch of the women\u2019s movement in the 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century,&#8221; Browder told Rose. \u201cPeople don\u2019t remember how bad it was for women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Women entering the workforce were not treated equally, Browder said. &#8220;Women were fired for being pregnant&#8230;. Women in some states could not serve on a jury. A married woman could not get credit in her own name\u2026. Women couldn\u2019t go to college in some places\u2026. Very few women were doctors or lawyers. Women were shut out of the professions. So, this was a time when women were very concerned about a lot of injustices and they were all pulling together to try to correct those.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_173182\" style=\"width: 275px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-173182\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-173182\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Subverted.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Subverted.jpg 265w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Subverted-203x300.jpg 203w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-173182\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Subverted by Sue Ellen<br \/>Browder<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/8-ways-men-pushed-abortion\/\">READ: <em>8 ways pro-abortion men pushed legalized abortion on America<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Arriving on the scene at that time were two women: Helen Gurley Brown &#8212; who took over Cosmopolitan Magazine hoping to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cosmopolitan-feminist-movement-unlikely-allies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">morph<\/a> it into a &#8220;Playboy&#8221; for women &#8212; and feminist Betty Freidan, who wrote &#8220;The Feminine Mystique,&#8221; a book which transformed the way women were viewed. &#8220;&#8230; [E]verybody went crazy and said, \u2018yes, we agree with this [book],\u2019&#8221; Browder said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By the time I got out of college it was 1968. I thought I could set the world on fire,&#8221; she told Rose. But Browder herself was fired after she became pregnant.\u00a0&#8220;I was like, &#8216;What? What?&#8217; Well, this women\u2019s movement was obviously for me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we&#8230; had the baby&#8230; and then moved back into New York City. And one of the first jobs I got&#8230; was at Cosmopolitan Magazine\u2026. I was glamour struck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The whole sexual revolution was made up of lies&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Browder told Rose that she later attended a conference\u00a0where former NARAL founder Bernard Nathanson, who had since become pro-life, was speaking. &#8220;And he told us about all the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/thousands-women-werent-dying-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lies<\/a> that they had told to sell abortion to the American people. And then&#8230; I realized that if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drjudithreisman.com\/the_kinsey_coverup.html#biopic\">[Alfred] Kinsey had lied<\/a>, and if the abortionists had lied, and if we at Cosmo were lying, then the whole sexual revolution was made up of&#8230; all lies. Then, we sold it to the American people through more and more lies \u2013 and through the women\u2019s movement\u2026 the sexual revolution was sold to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Browder notes that, because women had been subjected to injustices, they became prime targets for one particular master propagandist skilled in the manipulation of public opinion. His name was Larry Lader, a journalist by trade who became an ardent voice in the fight to legalize abortion. He had been Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger&#8217;s biographer and had known Betty Friedan for many years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLarry Lader co-founded NARAL with Bernard Nathanson,&#8221; Browder said.\u00a0\u201cLader&#8230; graduated from Harvard University and was fairly independently wealthy. She was losing control of the National Organization for Women and she was also trying to get her Bill of Rights passed through to Congress. She was creating a political Bill of Rights that would guide Congress for women&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At a time when women were being fired for pregnancy, Lader convinced Friedan to add abortion to her feminist Bill of Rights &#8220;&#8230; so they can say to the businessmen, \u2018don\u2019t worry about it guys, she\u2019s on the pill and if the pill fails she have an abortion. So, you\u2019re fine &#8211; you can pass all these other rights\u2026.\u2019&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/T3KFXqOCE7c\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/subverted.liveaction.org\">SUBVERTED: How the sexual revolution hijacked feminism<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Feminists eventually caved to the abortion lie, pushed by white, well-to-do men\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The call to legalize abortion was not coming solely from women but from white, well-to-do, pro-abortion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-population-control-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">men<\/a> who had embraced the Hugh Hefner-style sexual revolution. Cosmopolitan editor Helen Gurley Brown enabled this by <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cosmopolitan-feminist-movement-unlikely-allies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">painting<\/a> a deceptive image of a \u201cCosmo Girl\u201d who had free sex, no kids, and earned plenty of money &#8212; an image NOW&#8217;s founder, Betty Friedan, originally denounced. &#8220;[Friedan] was fighting for equal respect and dignity and education in the workforce,&#8221; noted Browder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHelen Gurley Brown would have loved to have been part of the women\u2019s movement, but feminist Betty Friedan called Cosmo quite obscene and quite horrible and even at one point called for a boycott of the magazine. [Friedan]\u00a0never mentioned abortion or contraception in her &#8216;Feminine Mystique&#8217;&#8230;. In fact, Friedan had been fired herself for being pregnant&#8230;. She did not believe that abortion was a woman\u2019s &#8216;right&#8217;&#8230;.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, as Browder details in &#8220;Subverted,&#8221; and as Live Action News will detail further, Friedan, under the influence of Lader, eventually bought into abortion.\u00a0And, while pro-abortion feminists obsessed over abortion, pro-life feminists left NOW to concentrate on real injustices affecting women, splitting NOW&#8217;s membership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Author Sue Ellen Browder\u00a0once aligned with 1960&#8217;s pro-abortion feminism.
