(Newsbusters<\/a>) You wouldn\u2019t expect the president of Ford to talk up Chrysler models, so you can\u2019t expect the head of America\u2019s largest abortion<\/a> provider (and contraception distributor) to give the nod to \u201cNatural Family Planning\u201d — or, rather, what she thinks is Natural Family Planning.<\/p>\n

On Monday, former magazine editor Tina Brown interviewed<\/a> Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards at the Women in the World Texas Salon (associated with<\/a>\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>). During her time on stage, Richards praised birth control and criticized Natural Family Planning (NFP) — which she incorrectly claimed included the Rhythm method.<\/p>\n

From the beginning, Richards described the current administration \u201cgoing after birth control access\u201d as \u201cextraordinary\u201d and \u201ccrazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

She credited birth control for the \u201crecord\u201d of lowest rate teenage pregnancy in U.S. history and lowest rate of abortion since the Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973 with Roe v. Wade<\/em>. (She conveniently forget to mention that, while the national abortion rate has decreased<\/a>, Planned Parenthood\u2019s own abortion rate has increased<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

But then she warned that the Trump administration was interfering.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just have seen a leaked memo that basically says that they\u2019re going to try to redirect all the family planning program, where millions of women, how they get access to affordable birth control, to now begin to use it for fertility awareness,\u201d she insisted. \u201cBut to really redirect it away from \u2018artificial\u2019 family planning to \u2018natural\u2019 family planning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown gasped, \u201cYou mean we\u2019re going to go back to the Rhythm method?\u201d and likened the decision to an \u201cepisode of Mad Men<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richards confirmed, \u201cYes, back to the Rhythm method.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s completely insane,\u201d Richards added. \u201cWe provide birth control to millions of people every year, and what we usually call folks who come to us who use the Rhythm method, is parents.\u201d<\/p>\n
