Before Britiney Whetstine miscarried her son, she was having what appeared to be a normal pregnancy<\/a>. Everything seemed to be progressing normally according to the two ultrasounds she had. However, after her second ultrasound, she started experiencing \u201cpulling pains.\u201d She expressed her concern to her doctor, but was told the pain were likely just bladder spasms from a UTI and that her baby’s heartbeat was still strong. She was released on bed rest.<\/p>\n

She was doing some school work for Human Resources when the excruciating cramping started, followed by a gush.<\/p>\n

Her water had broken.<\/p>\n

She went to the bathroom to clean herself up before going to the emergency room. Right before she sat down on the toilet, she felt a strong urge to push. No matter how she tried to avoid it, her body took over and begin pushing. She felt utterly helpless.<\/p>\n

That helplessness turned into despair when she caught her son, Hayden Ray Whetstine, in her hands, on November 30th at 6:05 pm.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe moved and opened his mouth to try to breathe,” Britiney said. “I watched in despair as his heart stopped beating, and screamed so loud my neighbours came over. My husband and mother-in-law came rushing in. We all broke down together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Britiney was rushed to the ER because she was hemorrhaging, and there, an emergency D&C was performed to get the placenta out and to stop the bleeding. At the time of print, her contractions still haven\u2019t stopped and are a dreadful reminder of the tragic loss.\u00a0Britiney still remembers every single detail and emotion, reliving it like she\u2019s still in the moment.<\/p>\n

The Whetstines held a very real human being in their hands at just 10 weeks gestation. Testimonies like theirs are so very powerful. People who share pictures of their miscarried or stillborn babies deserve to be able to grieve the way they need to, not to be shamed for sharing their experiences or their children’s humanity.<\/p>\n
