After all, I was a feminist&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Author&#8217;s Note: I recently had the privilege of meeting Danielle Taylor. Danielle had a story to tell, and I offered to help share it. This is what she told me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cNo! It\u2019s not time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">That\u2019s what I thought when the pregnancy test results appeared. I was 22 years old and madly in love. We got high, drank, partied, and there was no way we were going to stop. I had to take care of this.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It was an easy decision. After all, I was a feminist, and my mother had long talked about abortion rights. My boyfriend and future husband supported me too; he was a proud liberal who believed in \u201cchoice.\u201d I had also driven someone else to her abortion appointment; we pulled over on the way back so she could throw up. \u201cPromise you won\u2019t ever do this,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">And yet here I was.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I went to Planned Parenthood, and I discovered that their \u201ccounselor\u201d was actually a high pressure sales rep. She never mentioned adoption, didn\u2019t seem to care if this was the right decision. No, she just stared, tapped her pen, and prodded me with questions.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAre you going to schedule the appointment?\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWhen are you going to schedule the appointment?\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cYou\u2019ll need to pay the full amount upfront &#8212; do you have the money?\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019ve heard abortion advocates say pro-lifers want to reduce women to cattle, which is funny, because that\u2019s exactly how Planned Parenthood made me feel. I was like livestock, just being herded along.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0PUFJwiHlJM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I had an abortion the next week, and a friend took me home. When I cried, she tried to stay positive. It was the right decision, she insisted. I agreed &#8212; this was no biggie. Except it was.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I felt relief, but I also felt something else, something I couldn\u2019t quite describe. I knew it wasn\u2019t good, though, and I wanted it to go away. Drugs helped for awhile: pills, booze, weed &#8212; I did them all. A lot.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">One night, I woke up and saw the Virgin Mary on the wall above my bed. For a long time, I just laid there, and then I eventually got up to use the bathroom. When I returned, I reached out and put my hand against the cold wall. You might think it was a dream, but I knew it was a sign.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">My boyfriend and I got married, and we decided to start a family. It had been a couple years since the abortion; I had sobered up, was eating right &#8212; doing everything I could to have a healthy pregnancy. Four months in, that changed.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I called my best friend the day I miscarried, and she she held a bag open for me as I placed the body inside. I thought back to the abortion: when I woke up, I asked a staff member, \u201cDid you get it?\u201d I called the fetus \u201cit\u201d then &#8212; I had to. But now, as I looked at what was clearly a human being, I couldn\u2019t deny that \u201cit\u201d had been a baby.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">My baby.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Things went downhill from there. I had an affair, my marriage ended, and I got into an abusive relationship. Eventually, I met the man who would become my second husband. We wanted to have a child together, but before that happened, my liver gave out. The drugs and alcohol had caught up with me. Not only would I not be a mother, but I also didn\u2019t know if I was going to live. I finally turned to Christ; He didn\u2019t turn away.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">That was 15 years ago, and God has blessed me. I\u2019m alive and married to a man of principle. While I have no biological children, I do have 2 wonderful stepchildren, one of whom ministers to death row inmates. I also have two sponsor sons in Kenya; not long ago, the oldest had a daughter. He named her after me.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I wanted to tell my story because there are things women should know. First, abortion isn\u2019t your only alternative to parenting; there are actually more couples <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/11\/17\/142344354\/fewer-babies-available-for-adoption-by-u-s-parents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/11\/17\/142344354\/fewer-babies-available-for-adoption-by-u-s-parents&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510417469858000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHsNuwEVZBYtlEDA8KwFLwKK4cRWA\">seeking to adopt<\/a> than there are babies available, and they\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/adoption.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/adoption.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510417469858000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEQLtro3Y5lpwykMhcWdgQxoLfV1A\">easy to find<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Second, you can get advice, material support, or just someone to listen at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.care-net.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/www.care-net.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510417469858000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFAPK3oEuEFBTxOzXLo1flL-cQ2lA\">pregnancy care centers<\/a>. Care centers operate <a href=\"http:\/\/optionline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/optionline.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510417469858000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE9kcZ-0XqRVtTMSYq__lQ2J7yZ9g\">across the country<\/a>, and the people there don\u2019t see you as a quick buck.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Third, if you\u2019ve had an abortion <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-study-confirms-higher-risk-of-mental-health-disorders-after-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-study-confirms-higher-risk-of-mental-health-disorders-after-abortion\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510417469858000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFN7zRkC69JXRYd2Hk69kMMJNcjhw\">and are experiencing<\/a> guilt, sadness, or anger, you don\u2019t need to hide it. The abortion movement may want to pretend <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/jade-rees-not-only-woman-commit-suicide-after-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/jade-rees-not-only-woman-commit-suicide-after-abortion\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510417469858000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFn5NpxrxDb5K9vkfMnHA_vZ_xanQ\">your feelings<\/a> don\u2019t exist, but pro-lifers want to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rachelsvineyard.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.rachelsvineyard.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510417469858000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHm1GSF_JWlDmvjQK6FMsJ-ejuy1Q\">help you heal<\/a>. Self-destructive behavior never brought me relief; the Lord did.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I haven&#8217;t said these things to many people. However, I\u2019m breaking my silence because I recently came to a decision:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Yes.
