{"id":174136,"date":"2017-11-15T08:00:56","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T13:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=174136"},"modified":"2019-07-03T15:00:33","modified_gmt":"2019-07-03T20:00:33","slug":"half-planned-parenthoods-non-government-services-revenue-comes-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/half-planned-parenthoods-non-government-services-revenue-comes-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Half of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s non-government services revenue comes from abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>An analysis by Live Action News has found that abortion revenue accounts for over half of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s <em>non-government health services revenue<\/em> and over 12 percent of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s <em>total<\/em> revenue.\u00a0The figures confirm further that abortion is a much higher percentage of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s overall revenue than the public is led to believe.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood is an abortion corporation led by Cecile Richards,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prez-political-organizer-not-health-care-expert\/\">hired<\/a> for her experience in political organizing, not health care. Since Richards came to office, Planned Parenthood&#8217;s market share of abortion has increased to the point that they now garner nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/if-planned-parenthood-not-abortion-why-more-than-a-third-in-us\/\">35 percent<\/a> of the US abortion market. Despite the fact that Planned Parenthood claims abortion is just three percent of the services they offer, (recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/learn\/3percent\/\">disproved<\/a> by Live Action in the video below) it is clear that revenue from abortions has proven to be lucrative for Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qtgqxvaV-8U\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In 2009, an <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/analysis-abortion-planned-parenthoods-clinic-revenue\/\">analysis<\/a> by Live Action News found that abortion accounted for 22.6 percent of Planned Parenthood\u2019s clinic revenue. Today, that percentage is much larger.<\/p>\n<p>To calculate this number Live Action News looked at revenue, abortion totals, and median abortion costs.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood has a few revenue sources which they detail in their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/18\/40\/1840b04b-55d3-4c00-959d-11817023ffc8\/20170526_annualreport_p02_singles.pdf\">2015-2016 annual report.<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_174137\" style=\"width: 779px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-174137\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-174137\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/PPFA-Revenue-2015-2016-annual-report.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"769\" height=\"472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/PPFA-Revenue-2015-2016-annual-report.jpg 769w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/PPFA-Revenue-2015-2016-annual-report-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/PPFA-Revenue-2015-2016-annual-report-768x471.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/PPFA-Revenue-2015-2016-annual-report-700x430.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/PPFA-Revenue-2015-2016-annual-report-500x307.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-174137\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PPFA Revenue 2015-.22016 annual report<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Note that there are two sources of revenue for &#8220;health services&#8221; which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Government Health Services Reimbursements &amp; Grants (taxpayer dollars) &#8211; $554.6 million<\/li>\n<li>Non-Government Health Services Revenue &#8211; $306.8 million<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>COST OF ABORTIONS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Planned Parenthood reported that they performed 328,348 abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood&#8217;s former &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-independent-is-guttmacher-from-planned-parenthood\/\">special affiliate<\/a>&#8221; and research arm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/fact-sheet\/induced-abortion-united-states\">The Guttmacher Institute<\/a>\u00a0gives us an average of first-trimester abortion costs as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2011\u20132012, the average amount paid for an abortion in a non-hospital setting at 10 weeks gestation and with local anesthesia was $480. The average paid for an early medication abortion up to 9 weeks gestation was $504.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And according to a Planned Parenthood\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/5113\/9611\/5527\/Abortion_After_first_trimester.pdf\">report<\/a> from 2014, non-hospital facilities charged an average of $1,500 for abortion at 20 weeks.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-101-years-profit-driven-care-leaves-7-million-dead-top-employees-rich\/\"><em>READ: Planned Parenthood: 101 years leaves 7 million dead and its top employees rich<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If we break the 328,348 abortion numbers down using percentages from Guttmacher&#8217;s most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/fact-sheet\/induced-abortion-united-states#10\">recent<\/a> abortion data which states that 31 percent (101,788) of reported abortions nationwide were medication abortions and 1.3 percent\u00a0 (4,269) were greater than 21 weeks, that would leave 222,291 as first-trimester surgical abortions.<\/p>\n<p>By taking the average cost of abortion for each category &#8211; and without accounting for inflation- we estimate the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medication abortions: 101,788 x $504 = $51,301,152<\/li>\n<li>Surgical abortions:\u00a0222,291 x $480 = $106,699,680<\/li>\n<li>Abortions after 21 weeks: 4,269 X $1500 = $6,403,500<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">__________________________<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total estimated abortion revenue is $164,404,332<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That is a lot of money and may be the impetus for why former Planned Parenthood staffers claim PP enforces abortion quotas:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0PUFJwiHlJM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If we divide Planned Parenthood&#8217;s estimated abortion revenue ($164,404,332) by their total non-government health center revenue of\u00a0$306,800,000, we find that abortion makes up nearly 54 percent (53.58%) of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s non-government health services revenue.<\/p>\n<p>However, even if we include the $554.6 million in government dollars, abortion revenue can be estimated at 19 percent of all Planned Parenthood&#8217;s health services revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Then, if we include all revenue sources, abortion revenue would exceed an estimated 12 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood falsely claims that tax dollars do not fund abortions (even though money is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/yes-your-tax-dollars-fund-abortions-at-planned-parenthood\/\">fungible<\/a>) and the half a billion in forced taxpayer dollars they receive annually are simply reimbursements from Medicaid, etc. Today, despite their claims, legitimate health services, as well as patients, are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prenatal-care-cancer-screenings-decrease-planned-parenthood-loses-100000-patients\/\">declining<\/a> while abortions are on the increase.<\/p>\n<p>But, the real impact of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s abortion revenue lies inside the organization\u2019s own annual reports which reveal that, almost every year since 2000, Planned Parenthood\u2019s revenue has exceeded their expenses\u00a0\u2014\u00a0not just by a few dollars, but by\u00a0<em>tens of\u00a0millions<\/em>\u00a0of dollars (yearly surpluses ranging from $12.2 million in 2001\u00a0to a high of $155.5 million in 2010). By 2015, according to Planned Parenthood&#8217;s own report, the abortion corporation reported an\u00a0excess of revenue over expenses in the amount of $77.5 million, an increase of nearly 32 percent over from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>So, why does an abortion corporation which makes a profit almost every year need our tax dollars?
