{"id":174001,"date":"2017-11-13T10:44:54","date_gmt":"2017-11-13T15:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=174001"},"modified":"2017-11-13T10:46:12","modified_gmt":"2017-11-13T15:46:12","slug":"top-planned-parenthood-executive-major-government-funds-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/top-planned-parenthood-executive-major-government-funds-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Planned Parenthood executive: Major government funds keep us in business"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>A former top executive for Planned Parenthood once admitted that the abortion corporation&#8217;s success is linked to power and money, and that taxpayer dollars enabled the abortion corporation to recruit, hire and pay their top staffers six-digit salaries &#8212; all while actual health services and patients <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prenatal-care-cancer-screenings-decrease-planned-parenthood-loses-100000-patients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declined<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For years, pro-life groups have documented that the hundreds of millions in government dollars Planned Parenthood receives are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/yes-your-tax-dollars-fund-abortions-at-planned-parenthood\/\">fungible<\/a>, acting to free up other dollars which would normally be used for salaries, facility rent, and general overhead.\u00a0Though Planned Parenthood leads the American public to believe that those taxpayer funds do not pay for abortions or the salaries of staff that commits abortions, top officials at Planned Parenthood, like R. James LeFevre, Jr., knew differently.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BgB5E91lD6s\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>LeFevre began his career with Planned Parenthood in 1974 and was considered a mover and shaker inside the organization.<\/p>\n<p>According to his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/LeFevre-Resume.pdf\">resume<\/a>, LeFevre worked as Chief Strategic Officer for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) from\u00a01999-2006, as PPFA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/search.sunbiz.org\/Inquiry\/CorporationSearch\/ConvertTiffToPDF?storagePath=COR%5C1997%5C0324%5C90280202.TIF&amp;documentNumber=845293\">Chief Operating Officer<\/a>\u00a0from 1996-1999, as interim co-president of PPFA from 1995-1996, and as executive director of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England from 1977-1995. In other words, he was not a low-level employee, but was heavily involved in the workings of Planned Parenthood as an organization.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_173999\" style=\"width: 168px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-173999\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-173999 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/James-LeFevre.jpg\" alt=\"James LeFevre, PPFA (Photo credit: Bennington Banner)\" width=\"158\" height=\"248\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-173999\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">James LeFevre, PPFA (Photo credit: Bennington Banner)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 1992, he authored a booklet called \u201cRedirecting Boards, a New Vision of Governance for Planned Parenthood,\u201d written as a reference for the various PPFA affiliate leaders.<\/p>\n<p>It is there that LeFevre exposed how &#8220;the major influx of government funds&#8221; became the catalyst behind Planned Parenthood&#8217;s ability to recruit its staff.\u00a0LeFevre writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Some 20 years ago the managerial \u201cprofessionalism\u201d of the executive director (and often the senior staff) began to emerge. This became possible because of the major influx of government funds (primarily federal), providing resources that enabled Planned Parenthood to offer extensive training to incumbents and to hire experienced managers (not just social workers, ministers, or nurses, who did not always have such managerial preparation or experience). This trend continued for other senior staff positions\u2026.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, the ability for PPFA to hire top notch staff, executives and board members was <em>directly related to public taxpayer funds<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>LeFevre would know.\u00a0After all, in addition to his many jobs within the abortion corporation, Live Action News previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-health-care-reinvention-plan-failed\/\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that LeFevre was one of the nine members of PPFA&#8217;s \u201cReinvention Group,\u201d\u00a0tasked to \u201cliterally design PPFA in order to succeed in the era of health care reform.\u201d\u00a0Or, as the New York Times\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1995\/07\/22\/us\/planned-parenthood-president-resigns.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a>\u00a0it at the time, to change Planned Parenthood to a \u201cbroad health organization that could compete in the era of managed care.\u201d\u00a0But, despite today&#8217;s misleading rhetoric, this so-called\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-health-care-reinvention-plan-failed\/\">reinvention plan<\/a>\u201d created in the mid 1990&#8217;s to morph Planned Parenthood from an abortion facility into a health care agency failed because it barely mentioned abortion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/AbortionProcedures.com\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-88619\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-88619 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg\" alt=\"www.AbortionProcedures.com click here for facts on abortion\" width=\"306\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prez-political-organizer-not-health-care-expert\/\">documented<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood is all about abortion and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/tax-funded-planned-parenthood-spends-500k-organize-army-volunteers\/\">political organizing<\/a>, but the scheme to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-abortion-chain-planned-parenthood-masquerades-as-a-health-care-provider\/\">masquerade<\/a> as a health care organization continues to this day and has made Planned Parenthood executives very wealthy.\u00a0According to Planned Parenthood\u2019s annual reports, between 1997 and 2004, taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood increased over 65 percent from $165 million (1997) to $272.7 million (2004).\u00a0Within those same years, abortions also increased a staggering 54 percent from 165,174 to 255,015.<\/p>\n<p>What else increased during that same time period? The salary of PPFA\u2019s president, Gloria Feldt.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_174004\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-174004\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-174004 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Gloria-Feldt-PPFA.jpg\" alt=\"Former PPFA president Gloria Feldt\" width=\"690\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Gloria-Feldt-PPFA.jpg 690w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Gloria-Feldt-PPFA-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Gloria-Feldt-PPFA-500x307.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-174004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former PPFA president Gloria Feldt<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 1997, PPFA paid Feldt $245,853, plus $25,000 in expense account and other allowances.\u00a0By 1999 (just two years later), Feldt was compensated $324,217 plus $16,938 in\u00a0employee benefits and an additional $68,000 in expense account and other allowances.<\/p>\n<p>Feldt&#8217;s salary increased each year by the amounts listed below (all categories totaled):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2000- $24,000 increase<\/li>\n<li>2001 \u2013 $14,000 increase<\/li>\n<li>2002 \u2013 $12,000 increase<\/li>\n<li>2003- $29,000 increase<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By 2004, the last year Feldt was employed by Planned Parenthood, her salary from PPFA skyrocketed to over $902,148 ($490,679 in compensation, $346,570\u00a0in\u00a0employee benefits and an additional $64,899 in\u00a0expense account and other allowances).<\/p>\n<p>In other words, within just a few years, and with the help of government dollars, the president of Planned Parenthood had received a whopping <em>233 percent increase<\/em> in her salary.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_165712\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-165712\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-165712 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cecile-richards-700x345.jpg\" alt=\"Cecile Richards\" width=\"700\" height=\"345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cecile-richards-700x345.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cecile-richards-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cecile-richards-768x379.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cecile-richards-500x247.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cecile-richards.jpg 912w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-165712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cecile Richards<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Enter Cecile Richards, whose &#8220;accomplishments&#8221; mirror those of Feldt.\u00a0In 2006, when PPFA hired Richards to be their CEO\/<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-prez-political-organizer-not-health-care-expert\/\">political organizer<\/a>, \u00a0government dollars to the abortion corporation jumped from $336.7 million (2006) to $554.6 million (2015), also increasing nearly 65 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Since Richards was hired to the organization&#8217;s CEO position, abortions rose from 289,750 to 328,348.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Richards, Planned Parenthood now garners nearly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/if-planned-parenthood-not-abortion-why-more-than-a-third-in-us\/\">35 percent<\/a>\u00a0of the abortion market,\u00a0while the organization\u2019s actual\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prenatal-care-cancer-screenings-decrease-planned-parenthood-loses-100000-patients\/\">health services<\/a>\u00a0and patient numbers are dwindling.\u00a0But that hasn&#8217;t prevented Richards from seeing her salary increase.\u00a0Richards began her career at Planned Parenthood receiving an annual compensation of $360,902, according to PPFA&#8217;s 990 reports that year.\u00a0And, just like her\u00a0predecessor, her salary also skyrocketed.<\/p>\n<p>While abortions remained on the increase along with taxpayer dollars, Cecile Richard&#8217;s salary rose by over 165 percent. <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-ceos-salary-doubles-in-three-years-approaches-1-million\/\">According to<\/a> PPFA&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.guidestar.org\/FinDocuments\/2015\/131\/644\/2015-131644147-0cabd8ce-9.pdf\">IRS Form 990<\/a>\u00a0for 2014, in just a few years, Richards\u2019 salary and compensation had reached a staggering $957,952.<\/p>\n<p>Richards isn&#8217;t the only one cashing in on taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stopp.org\/2017-planned-parenthood-ceo-report\/\">analysis<\/a> by American Life League (ALL) in 2017\u00a0examined compensation paid to Planned Parenthood&#8217;s 12 top employees and found they received a total of $4.7 million.\u00a0The report also found that the average compensation of an affiliate CEO had increased 22 percent in just the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, ALL found that all 56 PP affiliate CEOs made over $100,000 per year with some making more:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>33 make over $200,000 a year<\/li>\n<li>16 make over $300,000 a year<\/li>\n<li>6 make over $400,00 a year<\/li>\n<li>1 makes in excess of $500,000 a year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;The total compensation paid to all PP CEOs is $13.4 million. This income puts the average Planned Parenthood CEO in the top five percent of all workers in the United States,&#8221; ALL <a href=\"http:\/\/www.all.org\/planned-parenthood-ceos-raking-in-the-cash-at-taxpayers-expense\/\">wrote<\/a> in its press release.<\/p>\n<p>A look at Planned Parenthood&#8217;s record reveals that it doesn&#8217;t deserve a cent of taxpayer money:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/guttmacher-report-women-dont-need-planned-parenthood-contraception\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that women do not need Planned Parenthood for contraceptive services<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prenatal-care-cancer-screenings-decrease-planned-parenthood-loses-100000-patients\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood is losing patients<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yJeLTE7aG78\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that services at Planned Parenthood are decreasing, despite an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/if-planned-parenthood-not-abortion-why-more-than-a-third-in-us\/\">increase<\/a>\u00a0in abortions and government funding<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qtgqxvaV-8U\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0dispelling Planned Parenthood\u2019s 3% abortion myth<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ekgiScr364Y\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood lies about the services it provides, including prenatal care<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tu_0-iD-rPk\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms, despite claiming that it did<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-taxpayer-title-x-fund-abortion\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that funding Planned Parenthood also funds its abortion facilities<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mkxUAR3a_Jc\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood has abortion quotas<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=acb1KUESU6M\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that abortion is the primary service that tax-funded Planned Parenthood\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Q7YPUDcMBDE\">offers<\/a>\u00a0pregnant women\u00a0because, as a former worker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZDHyy9yCerg\">testified<\/a>, \u201cthey made their money if somebody had an abortion\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/abortioncorporation\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0regarding the poor standard of care Planned Parenthood gives to their clients, with former Planned Parenthood managers accusing Planned Parenthood of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0PUFJwiHlJM\">treating href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Byb6ibQb4Nc\">development<\/a>\u00a0of their babies<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-connections-to-eugenics\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood was a eugenics-based organization at the time of its founding<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-planned-parenthood-found-engaging-in-medicaid-fraud\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood has been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/audits-show-planned-parenthood-non-compliant-with-federal-discount-drug-program\/\">cited<\/a>\u00a0for overbilling abuses and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/profit-no-matter-what\/\">Medicaid fraud<\/a>, and for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/private-information-planned-parenthood\/\">violating<\/a>\u00a0patient privacy<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-failed-report-child-sexual-abuse-decades-part-one\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-failed-report-child-sexual-abuse-decades-part-one\/\">failing<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-has-failed-to-report-child-sexual-abuse-for-decades-part-two\/\">report<\/a>\u00a0child sexual abuse (a violation that alone should\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/regulation-remove-title-x-funding-planned-parenthood\/\">result<\/a>\u00a0in the organization losing millions of taxpayer\u00a0dollars granted to it\u00a0under the federal Title X Family Planning Program)<\/li>\n<li>Documented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/5-scandalous-moments-from-live-actions-planned-parenthood-sexed-investigation\/\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0on the kind of sex \u201ceducation\u201d the abortion corporation is giving to teens, with Planned Parenthood promoting BDSM and other disturbing sexual practices to teenagers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list above does not include the number of women injured or killed after using Planned Parenthood\u2019s abortion \u201cservices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, while taxpayers are forced to fund this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/\">corrupt organization<\/a>\u00a0to end the lives of over 900 preborn babies a day, Planned Parenthood has increased its excess revenues (that&#8217;s right:\u00a0<strong>profit<\/strong>) from $55.8 million in 2005 to a whopping $77.5 million last year alone all while paying its executives, especially its CEO, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/report-planned-parenthood-hq-average-exec-salary-389514\/article\/2616702\">extremely high salaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was all a part of the plan, as LeFevre outlined in his book where he noted, &#8220;In the last decade it has become abundantly clear that Planned Parenthood&#8217;s success is closely linked with power and money&#8230; it takes political muscle and big bucks to prevail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, many of those big bucks come from the taxpayer. Enough is enough.
