A 34-year-old Utah man has been arrested for raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter on multiple occasions<\/a>. After getting the teen pregnant, the man attempted to obtain an abortion for her at three Planned Parenthood facilities in the state to cover up his crime. When that failed, he attempted to give her a drink to induce a miscarriage. The man also admitted to raping the teen on average once or twice monthly for a year. He faces 12 counts of rape.<\/p>\n

Utah is unfavorably\u00a0rated by NARAL<\/a> as “severely restricted” with regard to abortion access, but this fact may very well have spared this teen from enduring rape for an even longer period of time. Thanks to a state law requiring parental consent and notification, Planned Parenthood was required to refuse an abortion for the teen.<\/p>\n

While Planned Parenthood’s website makes it sound as if the organization encourages parental involvement in a teen’s life, Planned Parenthood’s political arm, Planned Parenthood Action, fights tooth and nail against parental consent and notification laws like Utah’s (for example, in Indiana, where Planned Parenthood is suing the state<\/a> for enacting such a law) — laws which lead to victims being rescued from their assailants, instead of being left in their clutches.<\/p>\n

Former Planned Parenthood staffer Ramona Trevino wrote<\/a> recently that Planned Parenthood “tells the public that it really cares about parental involvement and even abstinence, but that\u2019s all a ruse.” She explained further:<\/p>\n

When minors came in to my Planned Parenthood with parents, we insisted that the parents wait in the lobby, even when the parents insisted on accompanying their daughters. It was important for them to stay in the lobby because often, the parents would encourage their daughters NOT to get on birth control. And that was no good for Planned Parenthood\u2019s business, nor was it good for ensuring future abortion clients.<\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood is in the schools for a reason. It knows it must drive a wedge between parents and their children so that Planned Parenthood can gain the child\u2019s trust and become the voice of authority for all things sex-related.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While thankfully, this teen was spared further victimization because Planned Parenthood was forced to obey a law which it opposed, the organization has a long history of not<\/em> helping women and girls, by covering up sex trafficking<\/a> and sexual abuse<\/a>, by giving women misleading medical information<\/a>, and by\u00a0giving teens disturbing advice on sex<\/a>.<\/p>\n
