Planned Parenthood often refers to Sanger as a &#8220;hero&#8221; and continues to make light of her history and associations with the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacists.<\/p>\n<p>As Live Action News previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-founder-spoke-to-kkk-but-photo-is-fake\/\">reported<\/a>, Margaret Sanger was a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/saynsumthn.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/14\/hillary-clinton-praises-racist-margaret-sanger-founder-of-planned-parenthood\/\">proponent of eugenics<\/a>\u00a0who spoke to the women\u2019s branch of KKK in 1926. Planned Parenthood even served as a referral agency to some of those eugenics boards, as the film <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maafa21.com\">Maafa21<\/a>\u00a0details:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_171008\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-171008\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-171008\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Planned-Parenthood-Eugenics-Board-Robert-Webber-300x148.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Planned-Parenthood-Eugenics-Board-Robert-Webber-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Planned-Parenthood-Eugenics-Board-Robert-Webber-500x246.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Planned-Parenthood-Eugenics-Board-Robert-Webber.jpg 563w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-171008\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Planned Parenthood Eugenics Board Robert Webber<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>In some parts of the country, Planned Parenthood was closely associated with these state eugenics boards and was often a referral agency for them.\u00a0 But the system did not always run smoothly.\u00a0 In 1969, when the number of sterilizations approved by the Iowa State Eugenics Board began to drop, <strong>the Board was attacked in the press by the executive director of Planned Parenthood Robert Webber<\/strong>.\u00a0 He said that he was alarmed by the decline in numbers and that the Eugenics Board should expand its approval criteria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Board chairman Dr. S.M. It read in part:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Our founder, Margaret Sanger, was a woman of heroic accomplishments, and like all heroes, she was also complex and imperfect.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>[&#8230;] While she was a woman of heroic accomplishments, Margaret Sanger had some beliefs, practices, and associations that we acknowledge, denounce, and work to rectify today. Her life story provides a portrait that is bold, fascinating, formidable, human, complicated, and flawed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While Planned Parenthood attempts to denounce Sanger&#8217;s ties to the Klan, Planned Parenthood waffles about the harm it caused, saying that Sanger was simply motivated by a &#8220;deeply held compassion for the women and children.&#8221; Planned Parenthood often claims that Sanger was a product of her time\u00a0\u2014 and apparently, according to Planned Parenthood, so was the KKK. Planned Parenthood refers to that racist organization as 1920s &#8220;mainstream movement&#8221; which &#8220;was considered a legitimate anti-immigration organization with a wide membership that included many state and local officials. At that time, it defined its enemies as Blacks, Catholics and Jews.&#8221; The group specifies that it &#8220;today denounces Sanger\u2019s address to the Ku Klux Klan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_70731\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70731\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-70731\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/sanger-kkk-from-Maafa21-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/sanger-kkk-from-Maafa21-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/sanger-kkk-from-Maafa21.jpeg 462w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-70731\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screen grab from Maafa21<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And of the eugenics movement, which forcefully sterilized and stigmatized not only Blacks but other minorities like the disabled, criminals, and immigrants, Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/9214\/7612\/8734\/Sanger_Fact_Sheet_Oct_2016.pdf\">writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>In the early 20th century, eugenics \u2014 the \u201cscience\u201d of improving society through planned breeding \u2014 was a theory accepted by most American scientists and physicians. Eugenics was embraced across the political spectrum, from conservatives to socialists \u2014 so much was it embraced that it was taught in universities.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But despite the <em>false<\/em> claim that Sanger sought &#8220;voluntary&#8221; means of population control, Planned Parenthood acknowledged her associations with the Eugenics movement, writing:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>We denounce her endorsement of the Buck v. Bell decision as well as her involvement with the American eugenics movement and her adherence to some of its principles and values.\u00a0However, words are one thing and actions are quite another.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While Planned Parenthood wants the public to believe that it has repudiated Sanger&#8217;s eugenics connections, the corporation continues to honor her.\u00a0Planned Parenthood has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-founder-margaret-sanger-spoke-ku-klux-klan-supported-eugenics-organization-still-honor\/\">named<\/a> its most prestigious award after Sanger, the Margaret Sanger Award, given to those who support Planned Parenthood&#8217;s mission.<\/p>\n<p>The first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/campaigns\/ppfa-margaret-sanger-award-winners\">award<\/a> was issued in 1966. In 1972, Planned Parenthood &#8220;honored&#8221; Alan Guttmacher, who was president of Planned Parenthood. Guttmacher was also Vice President of the American Eugenics Society.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood has <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20171109232010\/https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/health-center\/new-york\/new-york\/10012\/margaret-sanger-center-3325-91110\">renamed<\/a>\u00a0one of its centers\u00a0after Margaret Sanger, and despite Richard&#8217;s promise to make a change, the facility held Sanger&#8217;s name until <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200609175600\/https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/health-center\/new-york\/new-york\/10012\/margaret-sanger-center-3325-91110\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200609175600\/https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/health-center\/new-york\/new-york\/10012\/margaret-sanger-center-3325-91110&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1597106934562000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH_QQZth09s_NBTgVfG8YfW-P72aA\">June of 2020<\/a>. Keep in mind that this did not happen in the 1940&#8217;s, but\u00a0<em>after<\/em> the civil rights struggles had taken over the nation&#8217;s streets in 1973. According to its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20141015050448\/https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-new-york-city\/who-we-are\/our-history\">history page<\/a>, Planned Parenthood New York City&#8217;s (PPNYC) Manhattan clinical facility merged with the Margaret Sanger Research Bureau and was renamed the Margaret Sanger Center. Its parent organization, Planned Parenthood of America [&#8230;] having been founded in 1939 as the Birth Control Federation of America.\u00a0Among its forerunners was the country&#8217;s first birth-control clinic, opened in Brooklyn in 1916 by Margaret Sanger\u00a0(1879-1966). In 1952, she helped to form the International Planned Parenthood Federation. while\u00a0Planned Parenthood in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-minnesota-north-dakota-south-dakota\/donate-ppmns\/planned-giving\">Minnesota<\/a>\u00a0advertises their own &#8220;Margaret Sanger Society&#8221;
