Indiana Right to Life recently examined<\/a> the latest data published by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH)<\/a> which shows that while the state’s abortion<\/a> rate has dropped for eight consecutive years, Planned Parenthood<\/a>‘s abortion market in the state continues to soar.<\/p>\n

\nThe state reports that “[a]bortions have dropped more than 33 percent since 2008” and that “there were 3,642 fewer abortions in 2016 than in 2008,” with the “all-time high number of abortions” landing at “16,505 in 1980.” The past four years alone (2012-2016) show a 17.3 percent decrease, and from 2015 to 2016, abortions declined 8.5 percent.<\/p>\n

Indiana Abortions 2012 to 2016<\/p><\/div>\n

But while Indiana’s abortion numbers have been dropping, Planned Parenthood has grabbed much more of the market share.<\/p>\n

In 2015<\/a>, Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in the state performed almost 66 percent<\/a> (5,234) of Indiana\u2019s abortions, an increase<\/a>\u00a0from 2014’s 61 percent (4,930 out of 8,118). At the time of the report, Planned Parenthood operated four out of the six abortion facilities\u00a0licensed<\/a>\u00a0in Indiana. According to the data, despite a continued decline of abortions in the state, in 2016, Planned Parenthood’s market share had risen to a shocking\u00a072.8 percent<\/em> of the state’s total<\/a> abortions.<\/p>\n

2016 Indiana Abortions by Facility<\/p><\/div>\n

A state report<\/a> of abortions by facility type\u00a0reveals that in 2016, Planned Parenthood facilities were responsible for performing 5303 abortions, an increase of 1.3 percent from 2015.<\/p>\n

These numbers clearly show that Planned Parenthood is abortion focused.<\/p>\n

Live Action News previously reviewed<\/a> reports from Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky and found<\/a> that government funding and abortions in the state have remained relatively stable at Planned Parenthood, but patient numbers and services are declining.<\/p>\n

By 2016, despite these decreasing services,\u00a0government grants to the affiliate <\/a>totaled $1,675,442.<\/p>\n

This state trend lines up with the national trend, as\u00a0previously<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n

Guttmacher<\/a>\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that in 2014, there were approximately 926,200 abortions nationwide.\u00a0Yet Planned Parenthood\u2019s\u00a0annual report<\/a>\u00a0reveals that the abortion business accounted for nearly 34.9 percent (323,999) of abortions that year. At the same time\u00a0abortions decreased 12 percent nationally (from 2011-2014), Planned Parenthood\u2019s market share of reported abortions had increased by more than\u00a010 percent (from 31.5 to 34.9 percent).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As was also previously reported<\/a>, the organization’s\u00a02015-2016 annual report shows<\/a> that\u00a0by 2015,\u00a0Planned Parenthood\u2019s annual abortions\u00a0had risen to 328,348<\/a>.\u00a0The annual report also revealed that\u00a0services such as contraception, prenatal care, breast exams, and pregnancy tests had decreased. In addition, Planned Parenthood has lost roughly 100,000 clients since 2014-15, dropping from 2.5 million to 2.4 million.<\/p>\n

The data shows yet again that Planned Parenthood offers<\/a> pregnant women little more than abortion. Women do not need<\/a> Planned Parenthood for real healthcare, and taxpayers should not be forced to pay $1.5 million daily to an organization whose primary focus is killing 900 preborn children every day. We can do better for women, for children and for our culture.<\/p>\n
