A recent, dramatic example can be seen in comments from Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), whose Twitter account <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenWarren\/status\/877661408984539138\">recently posted her screed<\/a> against Republicans who aim to defund Planned Parenthood through the proposed healthcare plan:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Women aren\u2019t fools. We know the difference between reality &amp; lies. That\u2019s why we\u2019re fighting back to stop the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenateGOP\">@SenateGOP<\/a> healthcare bill. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GHTsPpIJn2\">pic.twitter.com\/GHTsPpIJn2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenWarren\/status\/877661408984539138\">June 21, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s ironic that Warren should mention &#8220;reality &amp; lies&#8221; when so much of what Warren claims is far from reality. She claims to be &#8220;sick of coming down to the Senate floor to explain to Republicans what Planned Parenthood does,&#8221; but she&#8217;s the one who could use a refresher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Planned Parenthood doesn&#8217;t provide as much contraception or cancer screenings as they want you to believe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Warren, Planned Parenthood &#8220;provides millions of women with birth control, cancer screenings, and STI tests every year.&#8221; But the <em>total<\/em> number of clients Planned Parenthood sees is just 2.4 million,<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-lost-400000-clients-since-2006\/\"> a decrease from previous years<\/a>, and means <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-lost-400000-clients-since-2006\/\">they serve only a small fraction of the American population<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to services such as those listed above, which are accessible elsewhere, the numbers are even more unfavorable to Planned Parenthood&#8217;s narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood just recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/20170526_annualreport_p02_singles.pdf\">its 2015-2016 annual report<\/a>. As Live Action News&#8217;s Carole Novielli <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prenatal-care-cancer-screenings-decrease-planned-parenthood-loses-100000-patients\/\">analyzed<\/a>, cancer screenings overall dropped to 665,234 of their services, a 2.4 percent <em>decrease<\/em> from the 2014-2015 report. Worse, the previous numbers of 682,208 cancer screenings were already small to begin with. Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/learn\/3percent\/#numbers\">performed only<\/a> <em>1.8 percent<\/em> of all breast cancer screenings (<em>not<\/em> mammograms, which Planned Parenthood doesn&#8217;t perform at all), and those were using 2014-2015 numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Novielli also pointed to a 4.6 percent drop in contraception from Planned Parenthood&#8217;s most recent annual report since the one before it. As Susan Michelle-Hanson <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-newly-released-annual-report-shows-abortions-increased-again\/\">explains<\/a>, however, this does not fit with Planned Parenthood&#8217;s crusade for contraception without a co-pay. Instead of an increase in contraception and decrease in abortions, Planned Parenthood <em>decreased<\/em> their contraception services and <em>increased<\/em> abortions.<\/p>\n<p>While Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prenatal-care-cancer-screenings-decrease-planned-parenthood-loses-100000-patients\/\">did see<\/a> a <em>slight<\/em> increase in STI testing and treatment, from 4,218,149 tests to 4,266,689, this shows a nearly 5 percent decrease since 2011.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Planned Parenthood supporters claim taxpayer dollars don&#8217;t fund abortions&#8230; but this isn&#8217;t true.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Big abortion continually claims that the Hyde Amendment prohibits federal dollars from going towards abortion, and the abortion industry makes it clear they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/issues\/abortion\/hyde-amendment\">don&#8217;t agree with this policy<\/a>.\u00a0Warren herself is &#8220;sick of pointing out, again and again&#8221; this oft-cited and misunderstood claim.<\/p>\n<p>But the Hyde Amendment is a <em>federal<\/em> law, and it does have exceptions. State taxpayer dollars fund abortions in 17 states. Aside from this, the Hyde Amendment permits funding for abortions if they are &#8220;medically necessary.&#8221; Planned Parenthood, however, which commits the most abortions in the country, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/unearthed-court-docs-planned-parenthood-considers-all-abortions-medically-necessary\/\">believes that <em>all <\/em>abortions qualify as &#8220;medically necessary.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is also a fungibility factor to funding Planned Parenthood, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/yes-your-tax-dollars-fund-abortions-at-planned-parenthood\/\">as explained best here<\/a>. Funding Planned Parenthood in any amount means that other funds flowing to the organization are that much more freed up to support abortions and abortion-related services.<\/p>\n<p>Further, as Planned Parenthood admits, certain facilities are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/yes-your-tax-dollars-fund-abortions-at-planned-parenthood\/\">&#8220;funded in part by Title X&#8221; family planning grants.<\/a>\u00a0The big problem with this is that Planned Parenthood doesn&#8217;t seem to abide by Title X requirements to discuss all pregnancy options with women &#8212; instead, the organization pushes for abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Warren also makes another oft-cited pro-abortion claim that women will die in &#8220;back-alley abortions&#8221; if we don&#8217;t fund Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry. This is a debunked myth, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abortionfacts.com\/facts\/12\">admitted by Planned Parenthood<\/a>. If abortions are not paid for with taxpayer dollars, as Warren claims, why bring this up at all?<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Accusations about certain parties &#8220;playing politics&#8221; ring hollow in light of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s own political activism.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warren repeatedly claims Republicans are playing politics, claiming that they &#8220;would rather base health care policy on politics, than on facts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But Planned Parenthood and its supporters are the ones engaging in politics.\u00a0Planned Parenthood Action Fund <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-spending-20m-elect-pro-abortion-allies-help-media\/\">has spent millions hoping to get pro-abortion politicians elected<\/a>, including in the latest special election, in which their <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/karen-handel-wins-georgia\/\">candidate, John Ossoff,<\/a>\u00a0failed to win <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-lost-in-georgias-special-election-too\/\">despite efforts from the abortion industry<\/a>. It&#8217;s not merely the so-called health centers, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-launches-campaign-to-register-voters\/\">which also involve Planned Parenthood&#8217;s political agenda<\/a>\u00a0and take in taxpayer dollars. As<a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/hearing-wrap-planned-parenthoods-taxpayer-funding\/\"> a Congressional committee found<\/a>, Planned Parenthood&#8217;s political affiliates receive taxpayer funding as well.<\/p>\n<p>If all this were truly a matter of &#8220;health care&#8221; and &#8220;facts,&#8221; rather than &#8220;politics,&#8221; there would be no question as to whether Planned Parenthood deserved taxpayer funding. An increase in money toward Planned Parenthood doesn&#8217;t seem to be doing much good, as the organization&#8217;s legitimate health services are declining, <a href=\"http:\/\/liveactionnews.org\/abortion-inc-new-report-shows-how-planned-parenthood-used-taxpayer-dollars-to-become-the-abortion-giant\/\">and have been for years<\/a>. Defunding Planned Parenthood means that money would instead fund Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-lost-400000-clients-since-2006\/\">which outnumber Planned Parenthood 20 to 1<\/a>, instead. That&#8217;s not politics, it&#8217;s common sense.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Claims that defunding Planned Parenthood would be &#8220;mean&#8221; or wouldn&#8217;t be &#8220;pro-life&#8221; are ridiculously off the mark.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warren did not mince words in calling the health care plan &#8220;mean.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She neglected to mention that it&#8217;s mean for Planned Parenthood to advocate for abortion for any reason, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/extreme-planned-parenthood-opposes-virtually-all-abortion-restrictions\/\">without any regulation or restriction<\/a>, to the tune of performing 900 a day. It&#8217;s mean to<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-worker-we-had-no-resources-for-women-who-chose-life\/\"> refuse services for pregnant women who choose to parent or do adoption<\/a>, and to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-has-history-of-coercing-women-to-abort\/\">coerce them into abortions<\/a> through <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-patient-planned-parenthoods-counseling-consisted-five-terse-questions\/\">biased &#8220;counseling,&#8221;<\/a> because that&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/video-former-planned-parenthood-manager-only-abortion\/\">the only option <\/a>pregnant women <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/options-planned-parenthood-offer-pregnant-women-not-what-advertise\/\">have there<\/a>. It&#8217;s mean to help <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/10-rapists-planned-parenthood-helped\/\">rapists<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/child-sex-trafficking-cover-up\/\">sex traffickers<\/a> instead of underage girls.<\/p>\n<p>Warren also implied that pro-lifers, and their health care plan, are not really pro-life, and that to call the plan pro-life &#8220;is just the biggest play of all.&#8221; Because again, Planned Parenthood doesn&#8217;t engage in politics?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a lazy argument to claim that pro-lifers aren&#8217;t really pro-life without certain other stipulations. Even more tiring is how these points are made from the likes of Warren, a pro-abortion Planned Parenthood supporter. Being pro-life means supporting the fundamental right to be born, from which all other rights follow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Women deserve better, yes. Better than abortion and a predatory abortion industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warren ends her rant by wishing to be &#8220;blunt,&#8221; as if she hadn&#8217;t been already, claiming that &#8220;women and their children will die&#8221; because of the health care plan. Shes notes that &#8220;American women deserve better than this,&#8221; meaning &#8220;this mean Republican bill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what women deserve, Ms. Warren: Women <a href=\"http:\/\/www.feministsforlife.org\/\">deserve better<\/a> than abortion, and they deserve better than Planned Parenthood, an institution that seeks to profit from them in their time of dire need.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Planned Parenthood and its allies often mislead the public about what defunding the abortion giant would mean.
