{"id":167291,"date":"2017-06-09T08:01:14","date_gmt":"2017-06-09T12:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=167291"},"modified":"2017-06-08T13:04:39","modified_gmt":"2017-06-08T17:04:39","slug":"planned-parenthoods-cancer-survivor-video-is-an-act-of-desperation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-cancer-survivor-video-is-an-act-of-desperation\/","title":{"rendered":"Planned Parenthood&#8217;s cancer survivor video is a misleading act of desperation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Planned Parenthood is in the business of abortion\u00a0and in the business of\u00a0pretending that scores of women rely solely on Planned Parenthood centers for legitimate healthcare services &#8212;\u00a0some of which very few of their locations provide (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/yes-planned-parenthood-claims-prenatal-care-yes-lie\/\">like prenatal care<\/a>), and even services which <em>none <\/em>of their locations provide, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/mammogram-falsehoods\/\">like mammograms<\/a>\u00a0(which even the organization&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-ceo-falsely-told-congress-they-never-claimed-to-provide-mammograms\/\">CEO lied about for years<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>More of the abortion giant&#8217;s dishonesty is seen in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PlannedParenthoodAction\/posts\/10154707320619639\">a recent video<\/a> on the Planned Parenthood Facebook page. It features the story of Novelyn, a cancer survivor. Any time someone survives this deadly disease is a time to rejoice. Unfortunately,\u00a0the video doesn&#8217;t tell an honest story about Planned Parenthood and its services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FPlannedParenthood%2Fvideos%2F1748794261803277%2F&amp;show_text=1&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"439\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While Planned Parenthood does provide cancer screenings, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/learn\/3percent\/#numbers\">their market share is minuscule<\/a>\u00a0&#8212;\u00a01.8 percent of the nation&#8217;s\u00a0breast exams (again, <em>not<\/em> mammograms) and 0.97 percent of the nation&#8217;s\u00a0Pap smears. With numbers so low, it&#8217;s obvious that Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-actually-not-premier-health-care-provider-american-women\/\">isn&#8217;t necessary<\/a>\u00a0for these services &#8212; women are clearly going elsewhere.\u00a0Even Planned Parenthood&#8217;s own annual reports confirm this. <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-newly-released-annual-report-shows-abortions-increased-again\/\">The group&#8217;s most\u00a0recently released 2015-2016 annual report<\/a>\u00a0shows that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prenatal-care-cancer-screenings-decrease-planned-parenthood-loses-100000-patients\/\">such life-saving services have decreased<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-health-care-services-declined-in-2014-while-taxpayer-funding-increased\/\">they&#8217;ve been on a\u00a0steep decline for years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood has\u00a0misled and lied to the public before\u00a0out of desperation to\u00a0hold on to half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-newly-released-annual-report-shows-abortions-increased-again\/\">which has also increased (along with abortions), while life-saving\u00a0services decrease<\/a>. If Planned Parenthood truly cared about women&#8217;s health, they would gladly step aside so that the Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-can-be-replaced-health-clinics-outnumber-them-20-to-1\/\">which outnumber them by the thousands<\/a>, could step in to take that money and take care of patients.<\/p>\n<p>Inspirational music plays as Novelyn shares her journey. After feeling a lump in her armpit, she confirmed with a Planned Parenthood clinician that she had a lump in her breast. Again, what Planned Parenthood did was <em>not a mammogram<\/em>, and Novelyn was one of only 1.8 percent of women\u00a0who got their breast exams done at a Planned Parenthood. Novelly says the employee &#8220;quickly got me a mammogram&#8221; &#8212; but since CEO Cecile Richards herself has <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/tu_0-iD-rPk\">admitted that Planned Parenthood doesn&#8217;t have mammogram machines<\/a>, this can only mean that she received a referral. The way this is stated on the video is incredibly misleading &#8212; but then, this should be no surprise, coming from Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>In the video Novelyn discusses\u00a0being &#8220;an example&#8221; to her daughters\u00a0&#8212; and as a\u00a0cancer survivor, she certainly is! But what&#8217;s unfortunate is that she&#8217;s chosen to use her story as fodder for\u00a0Planned Parenthood, by <a href=\"http:\/\/plannedparenthoodexposed.com\/\">a scandal ridden organization<\/a> which is desperate to hold on to its taxpayer funding, to further mislead the public. Novelyn\u00a0even adds that\u00a0&#8220;if someone doesn&#8217;t understand what they do,&#8221; meaning Planned Parenthood, &#8220;then I tell my story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-160409\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DefundAd-400b-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If they&#8217;re defunded, a lot of people will lose their lives,&#8221; Novelyn claims in the video. &#8220;I&#8217;m a breast cancer survivor and I stand with Planned Parenthood.&#8221;\u00a0The tragic irony is\u00a0that\u00a0Planned Parenthood isn&#8217;t a life-saving organization &#8212; but they love to present themselves that way. The truth, however, is that Planned Parenthood\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/learn\/3percent\/#numbers\">commits more abortions in the nation than any\u00a0other organization<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/yes-your-tax-dollars-fund-abortions-at-planned-parenthood\/\">taxpayer dollars <em>are<\/em> actually\u00a0paying for abortions there,<\/a>\u00a0despite the group&#8217;s claims. But if we&#8217;re solely talking about cancer screenings, it cannot be repeated enough that Planned Parenthood has less than a <em>2 percent market share<\/em> in such key services, making it very unlikely that anyone\u00a0&#8220;will lose their lives&#8221; if Planned Parenthood is defunded. In fact, with its more than 320,000 abortions every year, defunding the organization would likely\u00a0<em>save<\/em> lives.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood is not in the healthcare business. It&#8217;s certainly not in the business of saving lives. It&#8217;s in the abortion business.
