{"id":166300,"date":"2017-05-20T10:45:16","date_gmt":"2017-05-20T14:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=166300"},"modified":"2017-05-22T09:18:37","modified_gmt":"2017-05-22T13:18:37","slug":"science-shows-the-humanity-of-preborn-children-so-why-are-scientists-ignoring-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/science-shows-the-humanity-of-preborn-children-so-why-are-scientists-ignoring-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Science shows the humanity of preborn children &#8212; so why are scientists ignoring it?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news-gazette.com\/opinion\/guest-commentary\/2017-05-07\/guest-commentary-marching-support-science.html\">guest commentary<\/a> written by a highly respected researcher and National Medal of Science recipient referred to the March for Science as a \u201cmarch in support of science as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a force for fairness and justice and as a defining dimension of our community\u2019s character<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d Her point was clearly that scientific research and discovery are important and that they impact communities, presumably in a positive manner. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, scientists collectively across the nation seem conspicuously silent regarding the abundant scientific research and discovery pertaining to embryology, biology, genetics, anatomy, and physiology that irrefutably show that preborn babies are human. Even the definitions of these fields and associated scientific terms themselves make this clear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Embryology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Embryology is defined as the branch of biology and medicine concerned with the study of embryos and their development. An embryo is defined as an unborn or unhatched offspring in the process of development, in particular <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">human<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offspring during the period from approximately the second to the eighth week after fertilization. A fetus is defined as the\u00a0unborn offspring of a mammal, in particular an unborn <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">human<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> baby more than eight weeks after conception.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Biology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biology is defined as the scientific study of<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> life. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Genetics is defined as the branch of biology and medicine concerned with the study of embryos and their development. Biology teaches us that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">living<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cells grow and multiply. Dead cells do not replicate and multiply into more cells to become parts of anatomy such as a brain, a heart, the liver, the skin, muscle, and bone. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anatomy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anatomy is defined as the branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">humans<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, animals, and other living organisms. Human anatomy is one of the basic essential sciences of medicine. If an embryo or fetus has bodily structures (and both do), then we can study the\u00a0anatomy of that human being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Genetics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our genetics, our DNA, determines whether we are a human, a bird, or a vegetable such as a zucchini. All genetic definition of who a preborn baby will be is determined at fertilization, including eye color, hair color, nose shape, hand shape, dimples, even when we will go bald \u2013 every bit of genetic information that makes each person a distinct and separate human being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Physiology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Physiology is defined as the way in which a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">living<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> organism or body part functions. The physiology of pregnancy teaches us that the placenta and umbilical cord are what separates the preborn baby from the mother, because the baby has a different and separate circulatory system from the mother&#8217;s. If the preborn baby were simply part of the mother\u2019s body and not a separate human being, why would he\u00a0need a separate circulatory system? The\u00a0circulatory system (or cardiovascular system) permits blood\u00a0to circulate and transport nutrients, hormones, and blood cells\u00a0to and from the cells\u00a0in the body to provide nourishment, to fight disease,\u00a0to stabilize temperature\u00a0and pH, and to maintain balance or equilibrium. If the preborn baby were only part of the mother\u2019s body, he could simply grow inside one of her body cavities like a tumor without any barriers such as the placenta and umbilical cord to protect the two of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-160409\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DefundAd-400b-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While developing in utero, the embryo or\u00a0fetus receives only three things from his or her mother \u2013 somewhere to live, food, and oxygen.
