During confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) questioned Gorsuch on his views about abortion and euthanasia. Newsbusters<\/a> points out that in her questioning, she referred to a book he had written, saying, “I will refer to the part of the book that concerns a lot of people who believe in the woman’s right to choose. \u2018Human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable and the taking of life by private persons is always wrong.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Feinstein may have believed this was part of a ‘gotcha’ question for Gorsuch, but in truth, it may have revealed something Feinstein didn’t intend.<\/p>\n

What Feinstein is saying here is that Gorsuch’s statements about “human life” being “valuable” are concerning to abortion advocates. She is also expressing concern about his belief that “the taking of life by private persons is always wrong.”<\/p>\n

But why should this be?\u00a0Why should there be any<\/em> concern from abortion advocates with regard to these statements? After all, they tell us that what’s growing in the womb isn’t really human life<\/em>,\u00a0<\/em>ignoring all science to the contrary — science like this:<\/p>\n

1. The preborn child, from the moment of fertilization<\/a>, has his or her own DNA, distinct from the mother’s and father’s.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Distinct DNA means a distinct life. As Live Action News’ Kristi Burton Brown stated, “Countless\u00a0medical textbooks<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 from various science specialties \u2013 agree. From the very first moment, a human being is a human being.”<\/p>\n

2. The preborn child’s heart begins to beat<\/a> at around 18-21 days post-fertilization.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, a new study puts this milestone even earlier<\/a>, writes Live Action News’ Susan Michelle-Hanson:\u00a0“… [A]\u00a0baby\u2019s first heartbeat may occur as early as 16 days after conception, rather than the three weeks previously thought.”<\/p>\n

3. By just eight weeks post-fertilization (the beginning of the fetal stage), all major organ systems<\/a> have been formed.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This means that<\/a> the “[s]tomach produces digestive juices…. Kidneys begin to function. Taste buds are forming.” Remember, this is still in the first trimester of pregnancy, when most abortions take place.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

To anyone with a\u00a0rudimentary knowledge of fetal development, statements like “it’s not a baby at this stage,”<\/a> “no, it doesn’t really look like a baby (at 23 weeks),”<\/a> and “it’s not a person”<\/a> seem to leave\u00a0the realm of ignorance\u00a0and venture into the realm of outright lies.<\/p>\n

I could go on, but Live Action News’ Sarah Terzo has a great summary on\u00a0the science about preborn life:<\/p>\n

By a mere 22 days after conception a preborn baby has a heartbeat. You can see the\u00a0heart of a four-and-a-half-week<\/a>-old preborn baby\u00a0here<\/a>.\u00a0By 60 days, the baby\u00a0has brainwaves<\/a>.\u00a0By seven weeks, she has\u00a0developed arms and legs<\/a>\u00a0and she\u00a0can have the hiccups<\/a>.\u00a0She can also\u00a0move her arms and legs<\/a>.\u00a0By eight weeks,\u00a0she is fully formed<\/a>\u00a0and is already showing\u00a0right or left hand dominance<\/a>.\u00a0The eight-week-old embryo\u00a0also responds to touch<\/a>. By\u00a0nine weeks<\/a>, she can grasp an object, stretch, open her mouth, roll over in the womb, and move her tongue.\u00a0Her kidneys<\/a>\u00a0are producing urine, she makes\u00a0breathing motions<\/a>, and most of her organ systems are present\u00a0\u2014\u00a0including, in a female preborn baby,\u00a0a uterus<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0ovaries of her own<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

All this being said,\u00a0Senator Feinstein and her cohorts don’t believe any of this science really means anything at all. And they certainly don’t believe these facts lead to the conclusion that women shouldn’t be able to legally kill their preborn children. Sen. Feinstein and friends\u00a0apparently find the idea that “human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable” to be a threat to their way of thinking.<\/p>\n

And in admitting they feel threatened by this idea, they inadvertently admit that abortion takes human life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
