The nation\u2019s most prolific abortion business is turning to the all-too-familiar state of Texas to fight what could potentially be its last stand.<\/p>\n<p>This time, the abortion giant has a Republican state lawmaker on their side. State representative Sarah Davis,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/204.65.203.5\/public\/100659149.pdf\">who received $15,791.49 in gifts-in-kind<\/a>\u00a0from Planned Parenthood during the 2016 campaign cycle, is now on a crusade against a pro-life alternative funded through the state. During last year&#8217;s reelection bid, Planned Parenthood invested $10,740 worth of phone calls, plus another $4,000 in digital advertising to Davis&#8217; campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Davis, as\u2014ironically enough\u2014the chair of Texas\u2019 House General Investigations and Ethics Commission, is using the post bought by Planned Parenthood to try and torpedo a state grant awarded to the Heidi Group, a network of 22 life-affirming physicians and mid-level providers serving 63 Texas counties.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_87465\" style=\"width: 444px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87465\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-87465\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CarolEverett-FullRes-700x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"434\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CarolEverett-FullRes-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CarolEverett-FullRes-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CarolEverett-FullRes-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CarolEverett-FullRes.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-87465\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carol Everett (Photo credit: Carol Everett and The Heidi Group)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Administered by former abortion clinic owner Carol Everett, the Heidi Group is midway through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/abortion-lobby-fighting-1-6-million-grant-to-pro-life-texans\">a one-year grant cycle<\/a>\u00a0with a goal to serve 50,000 Texans\u2014primarily women in rural areas\u2014with medical services reimbursed through the Healthy Texas Women grant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Davis\u2019 Planned Parenthood Debt Going Unmentioned<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Davis, however, is leading the charge to undermine the Heidi Group, and she\u2019s bringing along her friends at Planned Parenthood and the mainstream media.<\/p>\n<p>A March 14\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/f7645d59944d47228f2eb195a35a19a4\">report<\/a>\u00a0from the Associated Press\u2019 Paul J. Weber, for example, carried the headline, \u201cGet by without Planned Parenthood? One Texas effort stumbles,\u201d in which he conflated the two grants the Heidi Group is utilizing to make an already-complicated story seem far more convoluted than it already was.<\/p>\n<p>After casting a pall of doubt over the Heidi Group and their medical providers\u2014which serve predominately in rural areas of great need and include only one pregnancy help medical clinic, which itself is staffed by a qualifying mid-level provider\u2014Weber then quotes a Texas-based Planned Parenthood spokeswoman, Sarah Wheat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time they try to relaunch one of these women&#8217;s health programs, without some of the most trusted providers in women&#8217;s health, every single time they come up short,&#8221; Wheat said. \u201cAnd they show their lack of understanding and respect for what women need.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Piggy-backing on the doom and gloom, the pro-abortion\u00a0<em>Huffington Post<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/crisis-pregnancy-centers-cannot-replace-health-care-providers_us_58c95b1fe4b09e52f5552811?hl=1&amp;noRedirect=1\">screamed<\/a>\u00a0in its headline, \u201cFaith-Based \u2018Clinics\u2019 Want To Replace Planned Parenthood And That\u2019s Dangerous As Hell,\u201d a piece which again omitted\u00a0the fact that the Heidi Group is made up of qualifying physicians and mid-level practitioners\u2014rather than what could be described as a \u201cfaith-based \u2018clinics.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No mention was made in either article that Davis is nearly $16,000 in the hole to the nation\u2019s leading abortion provider, which has $550-plus million on the line at the federal level if it can\u2019t make the case that it\u2019s an irreplaceable provider of women\u2019s health care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where Have We Heard This Before?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/trump-s-3-percent-wager-with-planned-parenthood\">turned down<\/a>\u00a0an opportunity to keep its funding when President Donald Trump forced it to choose between providing abortions and staying on the government dole.<\/p>\n<p>The abortion business has been thoroughly and regularly exposed as failing to provide the services it promises\u2014including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/priceless-planned-parenthood-doesn-t-do-prenatal-care-refers-patient-to-pregnancy-center\">prenatal care<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/fact-checker\/wp\/2017\/03\/09\/schumers-claim-that-millions-of-women-turn-to-planned-parenthood-for-mammograms\/?utm_term=.08599f04cde8\">mammograms<\/a>\u2014while being forced to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/skeptical-of-the-planned-parenthood-video-me-too\">own its role<\/a>\u00a0in the illegal sale of body parts it takes from the babies it aborts.<\/p>\n<p>Davis, who represents Houston and Harris County, bears striking similarities to Devon Anderson, the former Harris County District Attorney whose failed 2016 election campaign followed her decision to indict undercover investigator David Daleiden for his role in exposing Planned Parenthood\u2019s criminal complicity in trafficking aborted baby body parts.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it\u2019s Davis\u2019 turn to carry the torch for Planned Parenthood, which aborts over 320,000 babies every year.<\/p>\n<p>Everett, who has been on both sides of the equation when it comes to abortion, said she\u2019s never quite seen the level of opposition she and her providers are facing. Though her providers have been heavily audited and routinely visited by officials from the state\u2019s Health and Human Services throughout the grant, no red flags have come up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-160409\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DefundAd-400b-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Needy Women Lost in the Shuffle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Still, that hasn\u2019t prevented lawmakers like Davis and state rep Jessica Farrar\u2014who recently gained headlines for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/mar\/13\/jessica-farrar-texas-democrat-proposes-satirical-b\/\">proposing a \u201csatirical\u201d law<\/a>\u00a0that would fine men for masturbating\u2014from undermining and slandering the Heidi Group, which serves rural and undocumented populations such as those in the desperately needy Rio Grande Valley, where patients who don\u2019t have access to running water or electricity.<\/p>\n<p>Planneed Parenthood has two locations in the Rio Grande Valley, while the Heidi Group is serving in five locations throughout the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey keep raising questions with no validity,\u201d Everett said. \u201cThey\u2019re not only harassing us, they\u2019re harassing everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Often a battleground state over abortion, two major abortion cases decided at the Supreme Court level originated in Texas. The 1973 decision in\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0decision legalized abortion on-demand and 2016\u2019s\u00a0<em>Whole Woman\u2019s Health v. Hellerstedt<\/em>, struck down regulations on abortion facilities that included hospital admitting within 30 miles and ensuring hallways were wide enough to fit a gurney through.<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of the current struggle, Everett said she\u2019s been keenly aware of her need for prayer from the pro-life and Christian community\u2014particularly because of what could be on the line in terms of Planned Parenthood\u2019s funding stream.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s Bigger Than Us.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With four months to go, Everett is confident the Heidi Group will hit its goal of serving 50,000 women by the end of grant cycle this August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of this contract, I believe we will have served the women with life-affirming healthcare,\u201d Everett said. \u201cThey will have heard the truth about things they\u2019ve never heard the truth about before. The overriding claim is that conservatives can\u2019t provide healthcare. That\u2019s why we must succeed. We must.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s bigger than me; it\u2019s bigger than all of us.
