Not if Planned Parenthood can help it"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>How <a href=\"..\/investigative\/study-shows-women-are-confident-in-decision-to-abort-not-necessarily-informed\/\">well informed are abortion seekers<\/a>? We may not be able to know their minds or experiences, but we can certainly know whether those doing the informing are being honest, fair, and candid with them (spoiler alert: they\u2019re not).<\/p>\n<p>Live Action has <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/rosaacuna\">caught<\/a> personnel at least three Planned Parenthood clinics giving their patients inaccurate medical information about their babies and pregnancies. The people at Planned Parenthood misled women on when heartbeats can be detected, abortion\u2019s medical downside, whether eight-week-old fetuses have limbs and brains, and whether the name \u201cbaby\u201d is applicable. \u201cBut wait,\u201d you say, \u201cyou can\u2019t judge an entire organization according to a few bad apples!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Very well. Let\u2019s see if Planned Parenthood\u2019s official material fares any better.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/health-topics\/ask-dr-cullins-6602.htm\">Q&amp;A section on their website<\/a>, written by obstetrician\/gynecologist Dr. Vanessa Cullins, is a treasure trove of pro-abortion talking points, but the biggest whopper is the way it <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/planned-parenthood-vs-the-medical-authorities\/\">absurdly and falsely pretends<\/a> \u201cbaby\u201d is an inaccurate term because \u201cmost medical authorities\u201d don\u2019t think it \u201cbecomes\u201d a baby until \u201cafter birth when it takes its first breath.\u201d Dr. Cullins apparently doesn\u2019t think \u201cmost medical authorities\u201d includes the Mayo Clinic, WebMD, Johns Hopkins, or the federal Department of Health and Human Services, all of which refer to \u201cbabies\u201d in the womb.<\/p>\n<p>Moving on to Planned Parenthood\u2019s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/health-topics\/pregnancy\/how-pregnancy-happens-4252.htm\">How Pregnancy Happens<\/a>&#8221; page, we learn that \u201cpregnancy begins when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus.\u201d Well, not exactly. If you define pregnancy the way <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/medical\/pregnant\">Merriam-Webster<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/pregnant_1?q=pregnant\">Cambridge Dictionary<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medterms.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=11893\">MedicineNet<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/pregnant\">Dictionary.com<\/a> do, as simply the state of carrying developing unborn offspring within one\u2019s body, then pregnancy starts with the fertilization itself.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of fertilization, the same page describes it as when \u201cthe egg and sperm must meet and form a single cell.\u201d Technically true, but woefully incomplete &#8211; it doesn\u2019t mention that the \u201ccell\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/rightcal.blogspot.com\/2011\/07\/indisputable-fact-life-begins-at.html\">happens to be<\/a> an alive, distinct, and fully human individual. Indeed, just calling it a \u201ccell\u201d makes it sound like it could be any old cell &#8211; hair, bone, blood, sperm, egg, zygote, they\u2019re all pretty much the same, right?<\/p>\n<p>This is a misconception Dr. Cullins goes out of her way to promote. In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/health-topics\/ask-dr-cullins\/cullins-preg-5291.htm\">Pregnancy Q&amp;A<\/a>, she claims:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>All kinds of people \u2014 theologians, philosophers, scientists, lawyers, legislators, and many others \u2014 hold very different views about when life begins. In fact, both the egg and the sperm are living things before they meet and join. There&#8217;s no real argument there.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Individual cells such as sperm and eggs are \u201cliving things\u201d only in the sense that they\u2019re organic matter. They are <em>not<\/em> alive in the sense of being human beings. They\u2019re simply part of a man and a woman\u2019s body, respectively. It\u2019s when they combine that they become something new and whole.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The really hot question is, &#8220;When does being a person begin?&#8221; Most medical authorities and Planned Parenthood agree that it starts when a baby takes its first breath.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Assuming \u201cpersonhood\u201d is intentionally being used as distinct from \u201chumanity\u201d here, I\u2019m curious as to why \u201cmedical authorities\u201d are opining on a question that is <a href=\"http:\/\/peterkreeft.com\/topics-more\/personhood.htm\">not scientific, but philosophical<\/a>. And it would be even stranger if \u201cmost medical authorities\u201d were simply denying the baby\u2019s humanity, considering that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abort73.com\/abortion\/medical_testimony\/\">textbook after textbook<\/a> &#8211; presumably written and used by said authorities &#8211; affirms that humanity. In either case, I\u2019d very much like to see Dr. Cullins\u2019 sources.<\/p>\n<p>Much more could be, and has been, written about the deception Planned Parenthood sows in every area of its work &#8211; sex advice, birth control, abortion\u2019s downside for the mother, etc. &#8211; but their lies about embryology are in a league of their own. Which is inevitable, considering that the people at Planned Parenthood need to sanitize abortion as much as possible to give their business a veneer of legitimacy.
