At six months old she was placed in an orphanage for children with special needs, where she waited for a family to adopt her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Flovewhatreallymatters%2Fvideos%2F1421416724547388%2F&amp;show_text=1&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"521\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In October of 2014, when she was nine months old, the Stewart family saw a picture of the little girl and decided to adopt her. It would take months of paperwork and a trip to the Philippines, but a year later, Adrianne and Jason Stewart were bringing little Maria home to join their family of five, including two biological daughters and an adopted son.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we found our daughter we did not think we were qualified or prepared enough to parent a child like her, a child born without arms and legs, but we knew that we could love her and that loving her was what mattered most,&#8221; Adrianne Stewart wrote in a post for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/lovewhatreallymatters\/videos\/1421416724547388\/\">Love What Matters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-163553\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/16999028_1810764812521752_2130633351991154919_n-e1489691683418.jpg\" alt=\"photo via Stewart Family Facebook page\" width=\"407\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/16999028_1810764812521752_2130633351991154919_n-e1489691683418.jpg 553w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/16999028_1810764812521752_2130633351991154919_n-e1489691683418-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/16999028_1810764812521752_2130633351991154919_n-e1489691683418-500x400.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At about two years old at the time of her adoption, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/03\/01\/health\/adoption-baby-with-no-arms-or-legs\/\">CNN reports<\/a> Maria was unable to hold up her head and her parents knew they had a lot of work ahead of them. She now receives speech and occupational therapy and attends preschool in an inclusive classroom.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She has given us far more than we will ever give her,&#8221; Maria&#8217;s mother wrote on Facebook. &#8220;She is so full of joy and light, and is an inspiration to all who meet her. We put limits on her abilities and then we see her doing exactly what we thought she was not capable of.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fstewartpamilya%2Fphotos%2Fa.1810766242521609.1073741827.1810759569188943%2F1810766095854957%2F%3Ftype%3D3&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"443\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Since sharing their story in hopes of inspiring other families to adopt, the Stewarts have received a lot of positive notes, however, they have also heard from mothers who have chosen abortion when their preborn children were diagnosed with conditions similar to Maria&#8217;s.
