In a statement, Trump explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As I said throughout the campaign, I am pro-life and I am deeply committed to investing in women\u2019s health and plan to significantly increase federal funding in support of nonabortion services such as cancer screenings[.] &#8230; There is an opportunity for organizations to continue the important work they do in support of women\u2019s health, while not providing abortion services.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">The offer, however,\u00a0has been rejected by Planned Parenthood officials. \u201cLet\u2019s be clear, federal funds already do not pay for abortions,\u201d said Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. &#8220;Providing critical health care services for millions of American women is nonnegotiable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">Despite Planned Parenthood&#8217;s attempts to portray itself as a needed provider of &#8220;critical health care services,&#8221; the fact remains that Planned Parenthood is an abortion business \u2013\u00a0a big one\u00a0\u2013 and that defunding Planned Parenthood does not equal taking away health care for women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\"><strong>Planned Parenthood is Not a Health Care Provider<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">First, Planned Parenthood is not essential\u00a0for women&#8217;s health care. The corporation does less than 2 percent of U.S. pap tests and breast exams, does not have a single mammogram machine in its facilities, but commits over 34 percent of U.S. abortions. Prenatal care, which is crucial for pregnant women, is virtually non-existent at Planned Parenthood, and it turns away women who want to keep their babies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ekgiScr364Y\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">Recent investigations have caught Planned Parenthood <a href=\"\/news\/yes-planned-parenthood-claims-prenatal-care-yes-lie\/\">pretending to provide<\/a> women&#8217;s services it does not, <a href=\"http:\/\/liveactionnews.org\/planned-parenthood-we-will-only-give-you-an-ultrasound-if-you-want-an-abortion\/\">refusing to provide<\/a> ultrasounds to pregnant women unless they agree to an abortion, and requiring facilities\/incentivizing employees to hit <a href=\"\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-manager-employees-rewarded-children-aborted\/\">abortion quotas<\/a>.\u00a0The reasonable person, even if pro-abortion, would likely agree that this sounds a whole lot more like shady big business than quality health care for women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\"><strong>Planned Parenthood is Not Necessary for\u00a0Women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">But even if these disturbing facts about Planned Parenthood were never exposed, the abortion giant&#8217;s portrayal of itself as the only \u2013\u00a0or at least the most important \u2013 game in town in regards to women&#8217;s health is straight-up bogus. Women do not need Planned Parenthood, but for the sake of keeping the cash rolling in, Planned Parenthood tries\u00a0hard to convince women, voters, and government officials that it is\u00a0very needed. (This, despite the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/getyourcare.org\/\">federally qualified health centers<\/a> and community health centers that <a href=\"\/news\/will-poor-women-go-health-care-defund-planned-parenthood-everywhere\/\">serve low-income and minority women<\/a> and their families outnumber Planned Parenthoods around the nation <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/health-clinics-nationwide-compared-to-planned-parenthood-centers\/\">20 to 1<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">FQHCs and CHCs do all the true\u00a0health care work for women that Planned Parenthood does.\u00a0The only different &#8220;service&#8221; Planned Parenthood provides \u2013\u00a0and the one Laguens is calling &#8220;critical&#8221; \u2013 is abortion, which is described below by former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jgw4X7Dw_3k\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\"><strong>Planned Parenthood is Not Essential for &#8220;Options&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">Supporters of Planned Parenthood frequently contend that defunding Planned Parenthood is taking away options. For example, a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/what-defunding-planned-parenthood-means_us_58b71ab6e4b019d36d100ed0\">Huffington Post<\/a> article on defunding the abortion business begins with the line: &#8220;It\u2019s just taking away people\u2019s options.&#8221; But defunding Planned Parenthood isn&#8217;t about taking away options; it&#8217;s about replacing them with more and better options that don&#8217;t involve the government funding constant corruption, dishonest &#8220;care,&#8221;\u00a0and big-business abortion with our tax dollars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">One obvious solution is redirecting funds from Planned Parenthood to comprehensive care clinics for women, which provide essential health services \u2013\u00a0without the abortions and scandals Planned Parenthood is famous for. Comprehensive care clinics currently outnumber Planned Parenthood locations by nearly 20 to 1, and many of them offer mammograms \u2013\u00a0something <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/mammogram-falsehoods\/\">Planned Parenthood does not provide,<\/a> despite some rather notorious and misinformed\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/obama-false-claim-planned-parenthood-provides-mammograms\/\">claims to the contrary<\/a>. So defunding Planned Parenthood could mean funding clinics that are more numerous and offer additional essential\u00a0services, but somehow this is taking away options?<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\"><strong>For Planned Parenthood, it&#8217;s About Abortion and the Money<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">Sounds to me as if\u00a0Planned Parenthood is just trying to say whatever is necessary to maintain funding for itself, regardless of how it\u00a0actually compares to other organizations on care, accessibility, and services provided.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qtgqxvaV-8U\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">As senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom Casey Mattox told <a href=\"http:\/\/dailysignal.com\/2015\/08\/17\/planned-parenthood-loses-government-funding-heres-map-health-clinics-take-place\/\">The Daily Signal<\/a>, \u201cPlanned Parenthood is really a small part of the national health care picture in America.\u201d While supporters of Planned Parenthood enjoy pointing to the fact that transitioning health care can present challenges, this is in no way a convincing argument that Planned Parenthood should continue to receive taxpayer dollars despite constant scandal, or that transitioning to funding more and better health care options would not be worth the challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\">Through all of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s canned phrases and outrage, it becomes clear that this really isn&#8217;t about health care for it. It&#8217;s about abortion. And it&#8217;s about money. Defunding Planned Parenthood could mean more options \u2013 better options \u2013\u00a0for women&#8217;s health care across the nation.
