Abortion advocates\u00a0are apoplectic over an unusual pro-life bill recently introduced in Oklahoma: Republican State Rep. Justin Humphrey\u2019s HB 1441<\/a>, which would require women to obtain the father\u2019s consent before aborting their child.<\/p>\n

First things first: this bill does not strike me as a particularly productive use of pro-lifers\u2019 time\u2014the problem with abortion is that nobody<\/em> should be able to consent to killing a baby, not that the baby is joint property requiring two parents to dispose of.<\/p>\n

Further, Humphrey does not seem particularly adept at articulating it\u2014while he does<\/a> make the valuable point that there\u2019s another body<\/a> at stake which the abortion seeker\u2019s own actions knowingly made dependent on her own body, he muddies the water by suggesting that \u201cexclud[ing] the man out of all of these types of decisions\u201d is the societal breakdown to focus on here, rather than the far more pressing breakdown of legitimizing violence against children for personal convenience<\/em>.<\/p>\n
