I had the pleasure of meeting Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse\u00a0at a\u00a0Students for Life rally in front of the Supreme Court in February of 2016. The Protect Them Both rally was held before the hearing on\u00a0the Supreme Court case, Whole Woman’s Health vs. Hellerstedt<\/em>. I was there with pro-life leaders and politicians to stand with Texas and their HB2 law that\u00a0required abortion clinics to be held to commonsense regulations and safety standards. It was a\u00a0tough day at the\u00a0court as Planned Parenthood’s President Cecile Richard and hundreds of pro-abortion protestors loudly chanted for abortion rights on demand. It was especially disheartening\u00a0to see my\u00a0Connecticut Senator standing with Planned Parenthood against regulations that protect women from abuse at the hand of the abortion industry.<\/p>\n

When I met Senator Ben Sasse, he gave me hope. He was kind, compassionate and he listened attentively as I spoke with him. In my heart I longed for caring pro-life leaders like him in my own state.\u00a0\u00a0Sadly we lost<\/a> the\u00a0battle over HB2, but Senator Sasse hasn’t stopped fighting for safe, quality healthcare for women.<\/p>\n

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Sasse recently issued an important\u00a0statement after the House of Representatives passed a resolution to\u00a0rescind the Obama Administration\u2019s rule\u00a0that\u00a0forced\u00a0states to fund abortion providers through the taxpayer-funded Title X program.\u00a0In a press release<\/a>\u00a0on Sasse’s Senate website, he wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cNebraskans know that being pro-life means supporting moms and babies with love. We want to champion life-giving health providers without funding abortion businesses. The House took an important and compassionate step for life and it\u2019s time for the Senate to follow suit.\u201d<\/strong><\/u><\/u><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The legislation passed by the House wouldn’t reduce Title X funds; it would redirect funds to the federally qualified health centers that do not perform\u00a0abortions. As Live Action News has previously reported<\/a>, these centers outnumber Planned Parenthood’s centers 20 to\u00a01.<\/p>\n

Senator Ben Sasse’s desire to redirect taxpayer funds\u00a0from\u00a0a controversial group\u00a0that takes the lives of 300,000 humans yearly is honorable and courageous. He should be applauded as a leader and looked at as an example by others in our government.<\/p>\n

In a Facebook\u00a0video<\/a> that’s now been viewed over 290,000 times, Senator Sasse takes a moment at the March for Life 2016 to thank the pro-life movement for their loving actions towards mothers and children.<\/p>\n
