In a multi-part series, Live Action News will be fact checking the online fact-checker,\u00a0Snopes.com. We will be following the site’s\u00a0very poorly researched posts regarding Live Action’s investigations into the abortion corporation, Planned Parenthood. While Snopes claims<\/a>\u00a0to be “one of the World Wide Web\u2019s essential resources” and “an online touchstone of rumor research,” the\u00a0site’s writers\u00a0appear to be lacking in\u00a0skills when it comes to researching the\u00a0facts about\u00a0Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

Case in point: Shortly after Live Action released an expos\u00e9<\/a>\u00a0featuring eyewitness testimony from two former Planned Parenthood employees — one a center manager, the other a nurse — revealing that Planned Parenthood required its\u00a0facilities to hit monthly sales quotas for abortions (“abortion quotas”), Snopes rushed in to rate<\/a>\u00a0the claim as “Unproven.”<\/p>\n

But in an example of apparent sloppiness,\u00a0a look\u00a0at the section titled “See Examples” reveals no external links — only\u00a0an image Snopes\u00a0uploaded to its\u00a0own site, without background or context. The Snopes “fact checker” in this case was Kim LaCapria, and it\u00a0wasn’t exactly clear how she came to her “unproven” conclusion. After all, Live Action put two witnesses with first-hand knowledge about Planned Parenthood’s quotas on the record by name<\/em>, and then published their statements on\u00a0video. In contrast, while LaCapria claims in her\u00a0Snopes piece<\/a>\u00a0to have contacted Planned Parenthood (which denied the quotas existed), she\u00a0failed to publish any names or titles of contacts at Planned Parenthood for validation.<\/p>\n

Denial is a common response from Planned Parenthood officials anytime they are exposed, because they know the media rarely investigates<\/a> the accusations<\/a> against them.<\/p>\n
