(Newsbusters.org<\/a>)\u00a0Even a best-selling book can\u2019t change the liberal media\u2019s silence on the infamous Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, according to its publisher and authors.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 24, Regnery Publishing released\u00a0Gosnell: The Untold Story of America\u2019s Most Prolific Serial Killer<\/em><\/a>, written by filmmaker and journalist team Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer. In just three days, the book sold out at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble and outsold all but three nonfiction hardcover titles. That wasn\u2019t enough for\u00a0The<\/em>\u00a0Times<\/em>\u00a0to place the book on its hardcover best-sellers list \u2013 but, in a recent comment, the news outlet is defending its decision.<\/p>\n

\"\"Among other\u00a0things, Gosnell was\u00a0convicted May 2013<\/a>\u00a0of first-degree murder of three babies (while\u00a0the nightmarish\u00a0Grand Jury report<\/a>,\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u00a0has\u00a0noted<\/a>, \u201calleges Gosnell killed hundreds of infants by sticking scissors into their necks\u201d).<\/p>\n

On Tuesday,\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0responded to a\u00a0Regnery statement\u00a0Thursday\u00a0criticizing the news outlet\u00a0for \u201crefus[ing] to include\u00a0Gosnell<\/em>\u00a0on their nonfiction \u2018Print Hardcover Best Sellers\u2019 list.”<\/p>\n

While\u00a0Gosnell<\/em>\u00a0made No. 13 on the\u00a0Times<\/em>\u2019 \u201cCombined Print & E-Book Nonfiction<\/a>\u201d list, Regnery still accused the news outlet because it \u201cignored the real sales numbers and refused to correctly list\u00a0Gosnell<\/em>\u00a0as the 4th bestselling nonfiction title.\u201d<\/p>\n

The publishing company argued that Gosnell reached No. 3 on Amazon\u2019s best-seller book list and was named Amazon\u2019s No. 1 \u201cHot\u00a0New\u00a0Release.\u201d \u201cThis was all without any mainstream media attention\u2014no reviews, no features, no author interviews,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0representative defended the outlet’s\u00a0methodology<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday in a comment to\u00a0MRC Culture:<\/p>\n

The Times’s best-seller lists are based on a detailed analysis of book sales from a wide range of retailers who provide us with specific and confidential context of their sales each week. These standards are applied consistently, across the board in order to provide Times readers our best\u00a0assessment of what books are the most broadly popular at that time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She added, “That process is not influenced in any way by the content of a book, or\u00a0by pressure from publishers or book sellers.”<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the Gosnell story\u00a0has faced media silence from the very beginning. Even Gosnell\u2019s trial, in which witnesses\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0baby abortion survivors \u201cswimming” in toilets \u201cto get out,\u201d\u00a0attracted<\/a>\u00a0a mere 12 \u2013 15 reporters. And that came only after a local columnist\u00a0tweeted a picture<\/a>\u00a0of the empty courtroom benches reserved for press. Only after 56 days, multiple letters from members of the House of Representatives and a public outcry, did all three broadcast networks\u00a0report<\/a>\u00a0on Gosnell.<\/p>\n

In addition to\u00a0The Times<\/em>‘ hardcover best-sellers list, MRC Culture\u00a0discovered that the three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) have not mentioned “Gosnell” once this year during their morning and evening news shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe media ignored Gosnell then,\u201d the Regnery statement added, \u201cand they are ignoring\u00a0Gosnell\u00a0now.\u201d<\/p>\n

But, Regnery added, the American public isn\u2019t. \u201cWhile the\u00a0New\u00a0York\u00a0Times<\/em>\u00a0and every other mainstream media outlet continue to ignore\u00a0Gosnell<\/em>, the sales numbers clearly prove that the American people want to know the truth,\u201d the statement concluded.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s clear that this is a blatant fake list in a fake news newspaper.\u201d<\/p>\n

As an explanation, McElhinney told Regnery about the\u00a0Times\u2019<\/em>\u00a0behavior: \u201cThe media doesn\u2019t want this story to see the light of day because it shines a negative light on abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate press release Thursday, husband-and-wife team McElhinney and McAleer added that, in addition to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, their book sold out at Books-A-Million.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur publisher was able to track the numbers and see that we were the 4th top-selling hardcover non-fiction title in the country,\u201d they added. So they were \u201cshocked\u201d when the book didn\u2019t appear on the\u00a0Times<\/em>\u2019 \u201cHardcover Non-fiction Best Sellers List<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"The paper boasts a history of\u00a0downplaying conservative authors<\/a>, including\u00a0David Limbaugh and his book,\u00a0The Emmaus Code<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Besides the book, McElhinney and McAleer are producing a\u00a0Gosnell<\/em>\u00a0movie, which Hollywood distributors are already\u00a0dismissing<\/a>\u00a0as \u201ctoo controversial.\u201d The filming of the movie itself, sponsored by a crowd-funding campaign,\u00a0faced<\/a>\u00a0censorship. But after raising more than $2.2 million,\u00a0Gosnell<\/em>\u00a0became<\/a>\u00a0the most successful crowdfunded movie on Indiegogo.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/em>: MRC Culture searched for “Gosnell” in the morning and evening news show network transcripts from ABC, CBS and NBC from\u00a0Jan. 1, 2017 to Feb. 7, 2017. No mentions were found.<\/p>\n
