It\u00a0included\u00a0music and pro-life speakers, including Vice President <a href=\"\/news\/vice-president-mike-pence-let-this-movement-be-known-for-love\/\">Mike Pence<\/a> and Counselor to the President <a href=\"\/news\/kellyanne-conway-at-march-for-life-we-stand-with-you\/\">Kellyanne Conwa<\/a>y. Advocates then began the march down Constitution Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Many of those at the rally and march were women and young people.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_161552\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-161552\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-161552 size-full\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170127_120758.jpg\" alt=\"pro-life millennial women\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170127_120758.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170127_120758-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170127_120758-500x281.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-161552\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Attendees\u00a0at the 2017 March for Life rally<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Women shared why they joined\u00a0the March for Life and what it means to be a pro-life woman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here because I want to give a voice to the unborn,\u201d said Jessica Howell, a 22-year-old woman from Quincy, Illinois. She shared that she wants the world to know the truth about preborn children and their right to life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey don\u2019t have a voice, and they need one because they are humans just like everyone else. And I think it\u2019s time for us to disregard the euphemisms, to disregard the thought that anyone has a choice over anyone else\u2019s human life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was Howell\u2019s first trip to the March for Life with the organization Students for Life. \u201cIt\u2019s not even about religion, it\u2019s not about anything else, it\u2019s just about the reality of human rights,\u201d Howell added. \u201cEveryone should live \u2013 that\u2019s just common knowledge. And I think just us being here and giving the world that common sense is powerful. Because it speaks for itself in a way. Our presence just speaks for itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pzomjBNeBgk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Emilie Hines and Emily Wielan, both 19 years old and from the Boston, Massachusetts, area, attended the rally. They each held signs reading, \u201cI AM A PROLIFE FEMINIST.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI decided to come this year because I believe that women deserve better than killing their unborn babies,\u201d said Hines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here because I have to speak up for those who can\u2019t,\u201d said Wielan. \u201c[Being a pro-life woman] means we stand up for all women inside of the womb and outside of the womb. Anthony List and the Alice Paul Group, among others. Pro-life authors, former abortionists, and representatives from pregnancy centers, women\u2019s fertility organizations, universities and other\u00a0pro-life organizations also occupied informational booths.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-life advocates often point out the harm women can experience in the decision for and in the aftermath of an abortion. They also bring up the fallacies in the argument that being pro-life is \u201canti-woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll we care about is women\u2019s health,\u201d said Howell, who pointed out the harm abortion can do to a woman\u2019s reproductive system. \u201cAnd not even the physical repercussions, but the emotional and spiritual repercussions with that. That\u2019s soul-crushing. No one can deny that it\u2019s soul-crushing. So I think for anyone to say that we\u2019re against women is just ludicrous\u00a0if you think about it, because what we want is for a woman\u2019s soul to be whole. We don\u2019t want it to be broken in that way where she literally loses a part of who she was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pro-life individuals also highlight\u00a0how abortion allows men to walk away from unexpected pregnancies with little to no responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a lot of history in what abortion has done to women and how it has ruined the nuclear family. It has allowed men to not take responsibility in having children, therefore leaving single moms to make the choice on their own,\u201d said Carla Pratico, 29. \u201cSo it has done nothing but hurt women in the long run.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_161556\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-161556\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-161556 size-full\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4890.jpg\" alt=\"pro-life millennial women\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4890.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4890-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4890-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-161556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Holly Adams (left) and Carla Pratico (right)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pratico traveled from New York City to march. She did so because <a href=\"\/news\/40-quotes-from-medical-experts-that-prove-human-life-begins-at-conception\/\">life begins at conception<\/a>, since DNA is unique. \u201cYou can\u2019t change DNA. There is never going to be another person like that ever again, and so they have a future and a hope that God gave them, and so it is valuable. And we should care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Holly Adams, also from NYC, added: \u201cI feel that I should stand here and have a voice for those who can\u2019t\u00a0and defend those who are defenseless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked what she would say in response to claims that pro-life advocates are anti-woman, Adams, 24, responded: \u201cI would say that women are born every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And some women and men traveled beyond borders to attend the March for Life. This included the\u00a0Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC), who carried the Scottish flag during the march.<\/p>\n<p>Louise Grant is the Development Officer for the SPUC in Scotland. SPUC is the oldest pro-life campaigning and educational organization in the world. Members traveled to the March for Life 2017 because this year is the organization\u2019s 50th anniversary. The SPUC formed in 1967 to debate a UK bill that became the 1967 Abortion Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had abortion in our country for 50 years, and it\u2019s 50 years too long,\u201d said Grant.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_161560\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-161560\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-161560 size-full\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4894-1.jpg\" alt=\"pro-life millennial women\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4894-1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4894-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DSCN4894-1-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-161560\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Louise Grant (left) and Lily Kearns (right)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cSome of the students we have with us have been denied a pro-life group in their university as well,&#8221; added Grant. &#8220;So it\u2019s just about getting them a little bit of encouragement to join in the biggest pro-life march in the world and taking this back to Scotland, and hopefully, we can build a stronger culture of life back home. So that\u2019s why we\u2019re here to march with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lily Kearns lives in\u00a0Glasgow, Scotland, and also traveled with SPUC to the March for Life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe think that pro-life is a worldwide issue. And it\u2019s in your Constitution &#8212; the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
