Wade <\/em>legalized abortion in all 50 states, and abortion facility closures are on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>Today there are 516 surgical facilities left in the country, a decrease from 2,176 facilities in 1991. With medication abortion facilities, there are 730 facilities. As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/roe-v-wade-fade-six-states-have-only-one-remaining-abortion-facility\/\">this map<\/a> shows, about one-third are located in New York and California, which are ranked as abortion-friendly states by both <a href=\"\/news\/aul-releases-2017-life-list-state-stand\/\">pro-life<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2017\/01\/policy-trends-states-2016\">pro-abortion<\/a>\u00a0sources.\u00a0The map also shows that six states have only one abortion facility: Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>The facilities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kentucky: EMW Women&#8217;s Surgical Center<\/li>\n<li>Mississippi: Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization<\/li>\n<li>Missouri: Planned Parenthood&#8217;s Reproductive Health Services of PPSLR<\/li>\n<li>North Dakota: Red River Women&#8217;s Clinic<\/li>\n<li>South Dakota: Planned Parenthood&#8217;s Sioux Fall Clinic<\/li>\n<li>West Virginia: Women&#8217;s Health Center<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kentucky and West Virginia both saw closures this month: the EMW Women&#8217;s Center and the Kanawha Surgicenter, respectively. The EMW Women&#8217;s Center\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/breaking-kentucky-abortion-clinic-closes-landlord-refuses-renew-lease\/\">recently lost its lease,<\/a>\u00a0and last year\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/kentucky-abortion-clinic-fire-operating-without-license\/\">had been found<\/a>\u00a0to be committing unlicensed\u00a0abortions. The\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/west-virginia-abortion-facility-closes-leaving-one-in-entire-state\/\">Kanawha Surgicenter closed<\/a>\u00a0because the abortionist did not wish to continue to travel there from California.<\/p>\n<p>As expected, some\u00a0in the media have lamented the closures of abortion facilities. Cosmopolitan\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cosmopolitan.com\/politics\/news\/a33504\/only-abortion-clinic-in-state\/\">highlighted certain\u00a0facilities<\/a>\u00a0by interviewing their\u00a0owners, sympathizing with their situations, getting personal, and affirming with them that they won&#8217;t let their facilities close. Romper\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.romper.com\/p\/which-states-have-the-fewest-abortion-clinics-theres-a-five-way-tie-for-last-place-23350\">ridiculed<\/a>\u00a0five of the states for their pro-life legislation.<\/p>\n<p>While the closure of abortion facilities, especially at such a rapid\u00a0rate,\u00a0is cause for pro-lifers to celebrate, the businesses which remain open are no better for women. In the opinions of\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/latest-court-rulings-show-that-it-is-the-abortion-industry-being-protected-not-women\/\">abortion activists (and unfortunately even some\u00a0judges<\/a>), a bad abortion facility is better than no abortion facility.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-160409\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/DefundAd-400b-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kentucky<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kentucky, where abortion facilities and providers are known for their &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/shoddy-kentucky-abortion-business-are-not-the-exception-but-the-rule\/\">shoddy<\/a>&#8221; level of care, is home to EMW Women&#8217;s Surgical Center, a facility which <a href=\"\/news\/judge-allows-filthy-kentucky-abortion-center-to-reopen\/\">has had expired medication and was described as &#8220;filthy.&#8221; <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mississippi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization in Mississippi has been saluted by abortion activists, <a href=\"\/news\/salon-writer-wants-pretty-abortion-clinics-but-isnt-so-concerned-about-patient-safety\/\">who seem to like its pink color<\/a>, but with a number of health violations, the facility is\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/mississippi-abortionist-is-a-great-decorator-but-not-so-good-with-patient-safety\/\">not exactly known for patient safety<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Missouri<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Planned Parenthood in St. Louis, Missouri, has been covered extensively by Live Action News. As was <a href=\"\/news\/numerous-health-violations-found-at-missouri-planned-parenthood\/\">reported earlier this month,<\/a> 2016 was a bad year in terms of violations and the amount of patients sent to the hospital by the\u00a0abortion facility, termed &#8220;high volume&#8221; by Operation Rescue. The facility\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/missouri-planned-parenthood-troubled-history-62-patient-hospitalized\/\">sent its 62nd patient to the hospital<\/a>\u00a0(in under seven years) in November. The facility&#8217;s president <a href=\"\/news\/sorry-think-progress-contempt-charge-for-missouri-planned-parenthood-president-warranted\/\">was held in contempt by state senators for refusing to turn over documents<\/a> in an inquiry<a href=\"\/news\/sorry-think-progress-contempt-charge-for-missouri-planned-parenthood-president-warranted\/\">,<\/a> and the Missouri Senate <a href=\"\/news\/missouri-senate-panel-issues-disturbing-report-planned-parenthood-st-louis\/\">issued a troubling report<\/a> about the facility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>North Dakota\/South Dakota<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Abortion Docs, Lori L. Thorndike <a href=\"http:\/\/abortiondocs.org\/clinic\/abortionist\/674\/\">is listed<\/a>\u00a0as\u00a0working at the Planned Parenthood Sioux Falls Clinic and the Red River Women&#8217;s Clinic, and the site notes\u00a0that she &#8220;[p]erformed abortions in North Dakota for several months without a valid medical license.&#8221; Nicola Louise Moore, also of the Sioux Falls Clinic, is <a href=\"http:\/\/abortiondocs.org\/clinic\/abortionist\/465\/\">highlighted by Abortion Docs<\/a>\u00a0for how she is known as the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/operation-rescue-unmasks-the-%E2%80%9Cfly-in-abortionista%E2%80%9D\/\">fly-in abortionista<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0and was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/botched-abortion-at-sioux-city-planned-parenthood-lands-woman-in-the-hospital\/\">believed to have been\u00a0present during\u00a0a botched abortion<\/a> at the facility in 2011.<\/p>\n<p><strong>West Virginia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Abortionist Rodney Lee Stephens of Women&#8217;s Health Center in West Virginia\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/two-women-on-their-terrifying-infuriating-encounters-with-abortion-doctors\/\">was sued<\/a> for performing a forced abortion with anesthesia on Itai Gravely, and then leaving the baby&#8217;s head inside of her. Operation Rescue <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/abortion-safety-crisis-hospitalization-of-abortion-patients-occurs-weekly-in-west-virginia-doctor-says\/\">also highlighted<\/a> that patients were admitted weekly to the hospital in West Virginia from botched abortions.<\/p>\n<p>It continues to remain imperative to hold these abortion facilities accountable for women&#8217;s health and safety, and if they cannot meet quality health standards, to shut\u00a0them down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Forty-four\u00a0years have passed since Roe v.
