Wade was &#8220;colossally erroneous&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>During his Tuesday hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Jeff Sessions, a pro-life Republican from Alabama, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/video\/national\/sessions-roe-v-wade-violated-the-constitution\/2017\/01\/10\/8e0c79a6-d74e-11e6-a0e6-d502d6751bc8_video.html\">reaffirmed his view on <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/a>, a Supreme Court decision\u00a0which legalized abortion in all 50 states and which is responsible for over 58 million preborn lives being lost to abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Diane Feinstein, a <a href=\"\/news\/pro-abortion-researcher-ignores-preborn-children-to-argue-against-20-week-ban\/\">pro-abortion<\/a>\u00a0Democrat from California, asked\u00a0Sessions if he still believes, as he once stated, that\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em> is &#8220;one of the colossally erroneous Supreme Court decisions of all time,&#8221; and\u00a0Sessions reaffirmed that this is still his view. He then added\u00a0that the decision &#8220;violated the Constitution and really attempted to set policy and not follow law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sessions continued to say that it is the law of the land and he would respect it as such. However, if Trump nominates pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, as he <a href=\"\/news\/trump-vows-to-appoint-pro-life-justices-to-the-supreme-court\/\">has promised<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba-list.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Trump-Letter-on-ProLife-Coalition.pdf\">says he is &#8220;committed&#8221; to do,<\/a>\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em> may not be the law of the land for much longer.<\/p>\n<p>Sessions&#8217; view on the 1973 <em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0decision is not unique. It\u00a0was mostly based off of a penumbra, or a feeling about what seven male justices thought the Constitution implied about &#8220;privacy&#8221; &#8212; even though neither that word nor &#8220;abortion&#8221; are in our founding document.\u00a0The so-called right to privacy, which supposedly includes the right to an abortion, came from a (mis)interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment, which would be more better suited to grant equal protection and protect the life, liberty, and due process of preborn Americans rather than take these fundamental rights away.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\"><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Another concern with the 7-2 decision of <em>Roe <\/em>is indeed that it &#8220;really attempted to set policy.&#8221; Many,\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/overturning-roe-would-require-abortion-advocates-to-persuade-voters\/\">including the late Antonin Scalia<\/a>, believe that <em>Roe<\/em> should not have been a\u00a0decision left to the judiciary branch, but to\u00a0the people and their legislators.\u00a0Clarke Forsythe of Americans United for Life\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/new-book-seeks-get-truth-roe-v-wade\/\">also highlighted<\/a> the legal problems associated with the decision\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/abuse-discretion-inside-story-roe-v-wade\/\">in his book<\/a>, <em>Abuse of Discretion. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sen. Sessions has a 100 percent pro-life rating from the National Right to Life Committee. As Live Action News&#8217; Calvin Freiburger mentioned when Sessions&#8217; nomination was first announced:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;Throughout his lengthy legislative career, Sessions has maintained a <a href=\"http:\/\/votesmart.org\/candidate\/evaluations\/443\/jeff-sessions-iii#.WC9YcKIrKRs\">100% pro-life voting record<\/a>. Moreover, he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2009\/11\/19\/nat-5689\/\">led the effort to filibuster<\/a> Obama\u2019s very first pro-abortion judicial nominee, David Hamilton, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativereview.com\/commentary\/2016\/11\/why-trump-picking-jeff-sessions-for-attorney-general-shows-hes-serious-about-law-and-order\">earned praise<\/a> for his conviction that the rule of law should trump (no pun intended) any administration\u2019s political preferences (a breath of fresh air, considering Planned Parenthood\u2019s <a href=\"\/news\/25-politicians-received-money-planned-parenthood\/\">heavy financial support<\/a> for Obama and other pro-abortion politicians who\u2019ve returned the favor by covering for its crimes), <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/floor-action\/senate\/254417-sessions-ludicrous-that-defunding-planned-parenthood-would-shut\">was not intimidated<\/a> by howls that defunding Planned Parenthood would shut down the government (he called them \u201cludicrous\u201d and maintained that Obama lacked \u201cthe moral authority, the political clout, to tell the American people that the Congress shut down the government\u201d), and is already on record <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sessions.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/2015\/7\/sessions-joins-colleagues-in-pressing-admin-for-investigation-into-planned-parenthood-scandal\">demanding<\/a> that Planned Parenthood be prosecuted\u2014and now he\u2019ll be in a position to make sure that it finally happens.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During his Tuesday hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Jeff Sessions, a pro-life Republican from Alabama, reaffirmed his view on Roe v.
