Because abortion advocates just can\u2019t make peace with the fact that living in a democracy means not always getting your way, the ACLU has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/2017\/01\/10\/aclu-sues-kentucky-over-ultrasound-abortion-law\/\">filed a federal lawsuit<\/a> in hopes of blocking the ultrasound provision (they\u2019re \u201creviewing\u201d the 20-week ban, too\u2014I wonder how that will turn out!):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe law is an example of political interference operating in its most perverse form,\u201d Alexa Kolbi-Molinas, senior staff attorney at the ACLU\u2019s Reproductive Freedom Project, said in a statement. \u201cA woman deserves to expect high quality compassionate care from her doctor. Instead, this law puts politicians in the exam room \u2014 squarely between a woman and her doctor.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cPuts politicians between patients and doctors\u201d is a curious objection from an organization that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/search\/affordable%20care%20act\">enthusiastically supports<\/a> the ultimate intrusion of government into medicine: Obamacare. And in this case, the \u201cinterference\u201d is nothing more than providing <a href=\"\/news\/?p=96579\">factual, relevant information<\/a>, with the <em>only<\/em> reason it\u2019s not already provided being that the so-called \u201cdoctors\u201d\u2014abortionists who <a href=\"\/news\/pro-abortion-media-still-shocked-that-religious-pro-life-health-providers-oppose-abortion\/\">aren\u2019t even legitimate practitioners of medicine<\/a>, according to any serious understanding of the concept\u2014have a <a href=\"\/news\/10-quotes-that-reveal-how-profitable-abortion-is\/\">financial stake in their patients not knowing it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The spin continues on the ACLU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/news\/aclu-challenges-kentuckys-new-abortion-ultrasound-law\">website<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The law requires that the doctor show and describe the ultrasound images even if the woman averts her eyes or asks the doctor to stop. According to expert testimony presented in the lawsuit, the law violates basic principles of medical ethics and informed consent by compelling doctors to dismiss a patient\u2019s objections.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the law provides no exception for circumstances where the doctor believes the ultrasound will have a traumatic effect on patients, including for women who became pregnant as a result of rape or incest or who face a medical condition or fetal anomaly.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>First, as <a href=\"\/news\/kentucky-passes-bill-banning-abortion-after-20-weeks\/\">Cassy Fiano covered<\/a>, \u201cthe AP notes that \u2018[w]omen are not required to watch the ultrasound and can request to have the volume of the heartbeat turned down.\u2019\u201d Second, how does <em>providing information<\/em> possibly violate \u201cbasic principles of informed consent\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Third, if we accept that simply knowing what a procedure actually does is inherently \u201ctraumatizing,\u201d doesn\u2019t that tell us something about the procedure? Just maybe? Fourth, never mind that helping someone realize what the abortion does before she goes through with it will spare her <a href=\"\/news\/nice-try-daily-beast-but-texas-is-not-lying-to-women-about-abortion\/\">much greater mental and emotional trauma<\/a> if she only learns the truth after she can no longer undo it.<\/p>\n<p>But the saintly \u201cwomen\u2019s health guardians\u201d of the abortion industry and the ACLU don\u2019t care about that.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cRequiring doctors to show every woman an ultrasound image and to describe them to her \u2014 even against her will \u2014 violates longstanding constitutional principles, including the right to privacy, the right to bodily integrity, and First Amendment freedoms,\u201d said William Sharp, legal director of the ACLU of Kentucky.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Simply asinine.<\/p>\n<p>First, I don\u2019t know how one would even argue there\u2019s a privacy infringement in providing information about something someone is voluntarily undergoing (the word \u201cprivacy\u201d only shows up once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/legal-document\/complaint-emw-womens-surgical-center-v-beshear\">in the ACLU&#8217;s complaint<\/a>, so there\u2019s no elaboration there)\u2014but then, privacy always was <a href=\"\/news\/privacy-dumbest-argument-legal-abortion\/\">nothing more than a magic word for the Cult of Choice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd2\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_BY_250_mid_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0\" class=\"ArticleAd2a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Second, presumably \u201cbodily integrity\u201d refers to the talking point that ultrasounds can be invasive if administered transvaginally (something <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lrc.ky.gov\/recorddocuments\/bill\/17RS\/HB2\/bill.pdf\">the law<\/a> doesn\u2019t require anyway)\u2026 never mind that abortionists\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/president-of-now-equates-ultrasounds-to-rape-outright-lies-to-gain-support\/\">admit<\/a> they already <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-ultrasound-except-using-find-fetal-organs\/\">routinely do the ultrasounds anyway<\/a>, so they can determine gestational age, ensure they\u2019ve fully emptied the uterus of fetal parts, etc. This is only\u2014<em>only<\/em>\u2014about the fact that abortionists don\u2019t want their customers\u2014sorry, \u201cpatients\u201d\u2014to know what they\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n<p>Third, the law supposedly violates abortionists\u2019 \u201cFirst Amendment freedoms\u201d because the mandated fetal information supposedly qualifies as \u201cgovernment-mandated speech,\u201d and therefore (according to judicial activists on the Fourth Circuit who sided with them in 2014) \u201cinterfer[ing] with the physician\u2019s right to free speech beyond the extent permissible for reasonable regulation of the medical profession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know what\u2019s more preposterous: that they expect us to believe the single most significant fact about what abortion does is irrelevant to \u201creasonable regulation,\u201d or that such an absurdly narrow and selective interpretation of the First Amendment comes from the same people who interpret the Constitution so ridiculously broadly as to <a href=\"\/news\/for-25-years-justice-clarence-thomas-has-defended-life-and-the-constitution\/\">contain rights to abortion it never actually mentions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gee, it\u2019s almost as if these people are abusing the law for their own agenda\u2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Days ago, Kentucky enacted a new law requiring\u00a0ultrasounds and fetal development information to be provided before abortions (a proven method of discouraging abortions) and banning abortions past twenty weeks.
