On Tuesday, Relevant<\/em>, the self-described<\/a> \u201cleading platform reaching Christian twenty- and thirtysomethings,\u201d published an editorial that reads more like an attempt to sway Christians to twentysomething-ism rather than the other way around.<\/p>\n

Crystal Marie\u2019s piece<\/a> \u201cDo Stricter Laws Prevent Abortion? A closer look at the controversial Texas rule\u201d begins by professing that \u201cmost people\u201d on both sides of abortion \u201care interested in eliminating abortions, as well as the reasons a woman may feel compelled to have one\u201d\u2014a contention that\u2019s hard to square with the complete lack of any sizeable \u201cpro-choice\u201d revolt to their leaders digging<\/a> in their heels<\/a> and going to war<\/a> against any possible effort to reduce (or even<\/a> merely discourage<\/a>) abortion at the margins, even the most monstrously late-term<\/a> abortions. Marie writes:<\/p>\n

Where the two groups tend to disagree is how to do it. Those who support making abortion illegal point to the fact that a fetus has a heartbeat at six weeks, and therefore, the termination of a pregnancy is the equivalent of killing a person. Proponents for anti-abortion legislation believe they are reduced when our legal system makes them harder to obtain. Proponents for an individual’s reproductive rights support data<\/a> suggesting comprehensive sex education and birth control reduce abortion rates when young people have access to them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Could the language in this paragraph be any more slanted? Pro-choicers get \u201can individual\u2019s reproductive rights,\u201d but rather than \u201cproponents of the right to life\u201d or \u201cprotecting babies\u201d or something, pro-lifers just get \u201cmaking abortion illegal.\u201d Worse, Marie writes as if only her side has data\u2014\u201cdata\u201d in this case being an outdated study whose flaws I covered here four years ago<\/a>\u2014when in reality there is plenty<\/a> of data<\/a> confirming the effectiveness of abortion restrictions, taxpayer funding restrictions, ultrasound laws, and waiting periods.<\/p>\n
