{"id":157981,"date":"2016-12-13T16:13:30","date_gmt":"2016-12-13T21:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=157981"},"modified":"2016-12-13T17:23:24","modified_gmt":"2016-12-13T22:23:24","slug":"why-women-shouldnt-worry-planned-parenthood-defunded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/why-women-shouldnt-worry-planned-parenthood-defunded\/","title":{"rendered":"Why women shouldn&#8217;t worry if Planned Parenthood is defunded"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Planned Parenthood and its supporters <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-begs-for-money-after-the-elections-were-devastated-angry-shocked\/\">have been freaking out<\/a>\u00a0since the November elections, which had the opposite effects they intended.\u00a0The nation&#8217;s abortion giant\u00a0spent millions on the campaigns of pro-abortion candidates, and instead, pro-lifers will continue to hold majorities\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/along-with-trump-win-americans-elect-prolife-house-senate\/\">in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate<\/a>. The White House will be <a href=\"\/news\/americans-have-overwhelmingly-rejected-planned-parenthood-and-a-pro-abortion-president\/\">occupied by Donald Trump<\/a>, who <a href=\"\/news\/pro-life-house-senate-president-elect-washington-must-defund-planned-parenthood\/\">has made a number of\u00a0pro-life promises<\/a>. The Vice President-elect, <a href=\"\/news\/trump-announces-mike-pence-as-vp-running-mate\/\">Mike Pence<\/a>, earned his\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/abortion-advocates-pro-lifers-react-to-trump-sp-selection\/\">pro-life credentials<\/a>\u00a0while serving in the House and as governor of Indiana.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Planned Parenthood currently rakes in 553.7 million annually in taxpayer funds, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/2114\/5089\/0863\/2014-2015_PPFA_Annual_Report_.pdf\">the most recent annual report<\/a>\u00a0available. The organization\u00a0has been taking to social media, sounding the alarm that this funding could be in jeopardy. At the same time,\u00a0Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PPFA\/status\/796415992855482368\">promises\u00a0that their doors will stay open<\/a>, yet\u00a0they, of their own accord,\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-closes-three-locations-pennsylvania\/\">have been closing Planned Parenthood centers not performing abortions<\/a>. Does this mean, then,\u00a0that the only doors that Planned Parenthood is willing to keep open are those that perform their greatest moneymaker (abortion)?<\/p>\n<p>With all the hand wringing of Planned Parenthood and its supporters, it&#8217;s easy to forget that the organization bragged about a\u00a0surge\u00a0in donations after the election &#8212; which, as Live Action News&#8217; Carole Novielli noted, raises the question of whether the abortion giant <a href=\"\/news\/if-donations-flooding-into-planned-parenthood-maybe-they-dont-need-tax-dollars\/\">really needs taxpayer funding<\/a>, or <a href=\"\/news\/need-help-from-planned-parenthood-be-prepared-to-donate\/\">whether\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0just playing on its supporters&#8217; fears<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If Planned Parenthood were to be defunded, whether at the state or national level, it is <em>not <\/em>reality that Big Government will come to a Planned Parenthood location, kick every single person out and padlock the door so nobody can ever walk through a Planned Parenthood door again. It also not reality that women will suddenly lose all access to\u00a0health care services\u00a0like\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/new-video-debunks-planned-parenthoods-3-percent-abortion-myth\/\">pap smears and breast exams<\/a>\u00a0(Planned Parenthood&#8217;s market share for pap smears is less than one\u00a0percent). Planned Parenthood performs 1.8 percent of breast exams, but these are <em>not <\/em>mammograms, which they merely refer for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qtgqxvaV-8U\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Instead, what would happen if Planned Parenthood is defunded is that the money currently\u00a0going to <a href=\"http:\/\/dailysignal.com\/2015\/08\/17\/planned-parenthood-loses-government-funding-heres-map-health-clinics-take-place\/\">665 Planned Parenthood locations<\/a>\u00a0(fewer now, since\u00a0closures) would instead go to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). With their 13,540 centers, <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-can-be-replaced-health-clinics-outnumber-them-20-to-1\/\">they outnumber Planned Parenthood 20 to 1<\/a>.\u00a0Women have far more\u00a0options besides Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of &#8220;options&#8221; is often discussed in the context of abortion, but Planned Parenthood isn&#8217;t really about options. As the nation&#8217;s largest abortion provider (and a <a href=\"\/news\/united-states-planned-parenthood-world-leaders-performing-abortions\/\">worldwide leader<\/a> as well), it&#8217;s really about abortion. It&#8217;s <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-patient-they-dont-help--women-who-want-to-keep-their-baby\/\">not exactly an organization known for helping women who want to keep their babies<\/a>, no matter\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/why-is-planned-parenthood-promoting-video-of-babys-life-saved\/\">what they claim<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News has covered some of the other options available to women, including <a href=\"\/news\/bella-natural-womens-care-fills-need-life-affirming-health-care\/\">Bella Natural Women&#8217;s Care<\/a>.
