This week, lawmakers in Arkansas\u00a0introduced<\/a> legislation that would ban the second-trimester abortion procedure dilation and evacuation (D&E), better known as dismemberment abortions because they consist of pulling a preborn baby apart, limb from torso, in the womb.<\/p>\n

HB 1032, the\u00a0Arkansas Unborn Child Protection From Dismemberment Abortion Act, would subject abortionists who perform dismemberment abortions to a maximum six-year prison sentence and $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n

Rep. Andy Mayberry is both the bill author and president of Arkansas Right to Life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I am hopeful of is that it does bring a new light to the subject, that it does help educate maybe some expectant mothers,\u201d\u00a0he said of the bill’s potential benefits (in addition to protecting preborn children from a particularly gruesome form of abortion). \u201cIt\u2019s a very savage procedure, it\u2019s cruel and barbaric and it\u2019s something I don\u2019t think should exist in a civilized society.”<\/p>\n

Despite what the procedure entails, abortion advocates falsely claim<\/a> that \u201cdismemberment abortion\u201d is a \u201cmedically inaccurate\u201d name for D&E. The National Abortion Federation\u2019s guide on dismemberment abortions actually removes<\/a> the baby from the diagram, instead depicting forceps entering an empty uterus.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, NAF’s own instructional materials describe<\/a> \u201cgrasping a fetal part,\u201d then \u201cwithdraw[ing] the forceps while gently rotating it,\u201d for the purpose of achieving \u201cseparation.\u201d It\u00a0also describes \u201cfetal extremit[ies]\u201d (i.e., limbs), \u201cfetal trunk[s],\u201d and \u201cfetal skeletal development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, notorious<\/a> late-term abortionist Warren Hern has admitted<\/a> that \u201cthere is no possibility of denial of an act of destruction by the operator [of D&E procedures]. It is before one’s eyes. The sensations of dismemberment flow through the forceps like an electric current.\u201d<\/p>\n
