{"id":157540,"date":"2016-11-30T17:10:29","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T22:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=157540"},"modified":"2020-06-10T14:50:33","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T19:50:33","slug":"late-term-abortionist-hern-takes-full-page-ad-fetal-trafficking-investigative-panel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/late-term-abortionist-hern-takes-full-page-ad-fetal-trafficking-investigative-panel\/","title":{"rendered":"Late-term abortionist Hern takes out full-page ad against Congressional panel"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>The <a href=\"\/news\/tag\/house-select-investigative-panel-on-infant-lives\/\">House Select Panel on Infant Lives<\/a> has been investigating possible instances of illegal fetal tissue trafficking, thanks to last year&#8217;s undercover investigation into the subject by the <a href=\"\/news\/one-year-later-the-videos-exposing-planned-parenthoods-baby-body-parts-scandal\/\">Center for Medical Progress<\/a>. As part of this investigation, the Panel has issued <a href=\"\/news\/breaking-congressional-panel-issues-subpoenas-aborted-baby-body-parts-investigation\/\">subpoenas<\/a> for information from fetal tissue procurement companies as well as from certain abortionists. One of those abortionists, as Live Action News <a href=\"\/news\/late-term-abortionist-congressional-investigation-witch-hunt-every-day-struggle-survival\/\">previously reported<\/a>, is Dr. Warren Hern, who operates an abortion facility in Boulder, Colorado, and offers abortions into the third trimester.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r5Af8vIym2o\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Operation Rescue <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/abortionist-hern-publicly-responds-to-subpoena-with-wild-conspiracy-theories-and-abusive-attacks-on-select-panel\/\">reports<\/a>\u00a0that, with an apparent flair for the dramatic, Hern took out a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Hern-ad-Nov-272016.pdf\">full-page ad<\/a> in the Denver Post this past Sunday, protesting the subpoena\u00a0of the Select Panel. In the ad, Hern appears a bit unhinged\u00a0in his accusations against the\u00a0Republican committee members &#8212; whom he categorizes as religious zealots and oppressors:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You are using the coercive power of the State to impose your own religious and partisan beliefs upon those who do not share them. This is the antithesis of American society and constitutional democracy. We fought the American Revolution to rid ourselves of this oppressive, pestilential and authoritarian practice&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Your despicable &#8220;investigation&#8221; is in the historical tradition also of the witch hunts of Medieval Europe and colonial America, the Spanish Inquisition, and other faith-based government programs of sectarian persecution.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Allllrighty then.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a step back (and perhaps a few slow, deep breaths). Warren Hern &#8212; a\u00a0man who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drhern.com\/\">advertises<\/a>\u00a0his &#8216;services&#8217; aborting viable preborn children (for thousands of dollars) &#8212; thinks\u00a0a Congressional panel investigating the possible illegal trafficking of human\u00a0tissue in the United States is being &#8220;oppressive&#8221; by seeking documents from abortion providers and procurement agencies who, as common sense would dictate, would seem to be the most likely candidates to take part in any fetal tissue trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>And &#8220;pestilential&#8221; &#8212; a term also used by Hern &#8212; actually seems a\u00a0better word to describe Hern&#8217;s own attitude toward human life. On his website, he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drhern.com\/en\/news-a-publications\/25-homo-ecophagus-the-human-species-as-a-malignant-process.html?catid=6%3Apublications-in-peer-review-journals-invited-book\">links<\/a> to papers and speeches which present\u00a0the idea that &#8220;the human species displays the characteristics of a malignant process.&#8221; In other words, he believes <em>humanity<\/em> is a pestilence &#8212; and he advertises this on the same website where he purports to offer &#8220;quality care for women.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_157589\" style=\"width: 758px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-157589\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-157589\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/warren-hern.jpg\" alt=\"warren-hern\" width=\"748\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/warren-hern.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/warren-hern-300x176.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/warren-hern-768x450.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/warren-hern-700x410.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/warren-hern-500x293.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-157589\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot of Warren Hern&#8217;s website<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As for the accused\u00a0Panel\u00a0members,\u00a0they are elected representatives who\u00a0are investigating whether the federal laws passed by our elected representatives are\u00a0actually\u00a0being followed. Still,\u00a0&#8220;Hern described the investigation as &#8216;persecution&#8217; even though the sale of aborted fetal tissue for profit is a federal crime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite Hern&#8217;s claims that the Panel wants to stifle\u00a0women&#8217;s rights, the Panel actually isn&#8217;t determining the legality of abortion at all; it is trying to determine whether federal laws preventing the sale of human tissue have been broken. Nothing in this investigation affects the legality of abortion or even attempts to debate it, so Hern&#8217;s claim that the Panel seeks to &#8220;impose&#8221; a &#8220;religious&#8221; belief seems&#8230; ridiculous at best.<\/p>\n<p>But this wasn&#8217;t all he said. Operation Rescue reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In his published ad, titled \u201cFrom Dr. Hern to Congress,\u201d he first rebukes the Select Panel for not addressing him by his professional titles. In return, he accuses members of Congress of being \u201cinhuman,\u201d \u201ccallous,\u201d and \u201cdelusional.\u201d He chides them for using \u201cvicious, despicable\u201d and \u201cgrotesque\u201d anti-abortion \u201cpropaganda term\u201d of \u201cabortionist\u201d \u2013 a term many abortion doctors call themselves.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Inhuman&#8221;? &#8220;Grotesque&#8221;? (Surely we&#8217;re talking about abortion itself here, right?) Accusations that Congress used\u00a0&#8220;propaganda terms&#8221;? (You mean terms like &#8220;clump of cells&#8221; and &#8220;mass of tissue&#8221; and&#8230; oh, no, that&#8217;s <em>not<\/em> what you mean? Hmm.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Delusional&#8221;? Perhaps the reader should decide, after reading Hern&#8217;s ad (below),\u00a0what seems &#8220;delusional.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Operation Rescue says Hern&#8217;s ad contains &#8220;several conspiracy theories&#8221; which &#8220;provoke troubling questions about [Hern&#8217;s] loose tether on reality,&#8221; including an assertion that the Select Panel is &#8220;attempting to deny women contraceptives&#8221; when the Panel&#8217;s investigation isn&#8217;t even remotely focused on contraception.<\/p>\n<p>According to Operation Rescue, Hern also claimed that the Panel&#8217;s subpoena\u00a0would\u00a0encourage physical violence\u00a0against him. But when we consider that\u00a0Hern&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.drhern.com\">website<\/a> advertises what he does for a living and\u00a0is easily found through any search engine, a Congressional subpoena\u00a0seems an unlikely culprit. Hern has given plenty of interviews and other media appearances, and he even authored\u00a0a <a href=\"\/news\/late-term-abortionist-congressional-investigation-witch-hunt-every-day-struggle-survival\/\">recent article<\/a>\u00a0about the Congressional &#8220;witch hunt.&#8221; Operation Rescue points out that Hern even (voluntarily) <a href=\"\/news\/so-youve-seen-after-tiller-5-things-you-need-to-know-that-you-wont-find-out-from-the-film\/\">starred in the pro-abortion documentary<\/a>, &#8220;After Tiller,&#8221; along with fellow\u00a0late-term abortionists Shelley Sella, Susan Robinson, and LeRoy Carhart. The assertion that the Panel somehow made him vulnerable to\u00a0violence seems&#8230; well&#8230; a bit\u00a0<em>delusional<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In his ad, Hern also claimed pro-lifers are &#8220;a violent terrorist movement&#8221; and said the Panel&#8217;s letters to abortionists &#8220;constitute a program of target identification for anti-abortion assassins.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>From comments like this, it almost seems\u00a0as if Hern is unaware that he has a website advertising his location and services, is unaware that he signed up to be featured in a film about his &#8216;work&#8217; &#8212; and even went to the film&#8217;s premiere! If someone truly feels threatened (by a very peaceful pro-life movement, no less), this seems an odd way to show it. All this notoriety wasn&#8217;t brought about by a simple Congressional subpoena, despite Hern&#8217;s suggestions. As Operation Rescue points out: &#8220;In reality, Hern has done much more than anyone else to proudly identify himself as a very late-term abortion provider. One would expect that law-abiding citizens would be anxious to clear themselves of any hints of wrongdoing &#8212; and yet, Hern&#8217;s ad seems to be far more indignant\u00a0than is necessary.
