{"id":157009,"date":"2016-11-24T12:17:27","date_gmt":"2016-11-24T17:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=157009"},"modified":"2016-11-23T16:00:55","modified_gmt":"2016-11-23T21:00:55","slug":"pro-abortion-author-admits-planned-parenthood-gave-poor-counseling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-author-admits-planned-parenthood-gave-poor-counseling\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro-abortion author admits Planned Parenthood gave poor counseling"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Jennifer Baumgardner is a pro-abortion writer and the creator of the\u00a0t-shirt campaign \u201cI Had An Abortion.&#8221; She attempted to start a movement\u00a0calling for women across the nation to\u00a0wear shirts announcing their past abortions in order to attempt to normalize abortion and defeat its stigma. The campaign was not very successful, however, because fewer than the expected number of women purchased the shirts. Apparently, not many\u00a0women wanted to joyfully advertise the deaths of their babies.<\/p>\n<p>In Baumgardner&#8217;s pro-abortion book\u00a0<em>Abortion &amp; Life,\u00a0<\/em>she shares the photos and stories of a small number of women who did agree to wear the shirts. \u00a0One story contains the following first-hand account of\u00a0the &#8220;counseling&#8221; a woman received at Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I went with my boyfriend and friend to Planned Parenthood. I think I was headed into my eighth week at that point. I went into a room for pre-abortion counseling- five quick, terse questions. I had assumed that I was going to get a half-hour and I would finally be able to tell someone or talk to someone about how freaked out I was, but I didn\u2019t get to.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When a pro-abortion book by a pro-abortion author includes a testimony that demonstrates\u00a0how deficient Planned Parenthood&#8217;s counseling is, it must really be bad.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Many other women have <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/deceived-by-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\">spoken out<\/a>\u00a0about the\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/woman-says-planned-parenthood-gave-her-no-information-before-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\">poor &#8220;counseling<\/a>&#8216; they received at Planned Parenthood. This &#8220;counseling,&#8221; at the very least, was limited and rushed, and at its worst, amounted to a sales pitch for abortion. Even more damning are admissions by former Planned Parenthood workers that they pressured women into abortions by presenting a one-sided picture.<\/p>\n<p>Lavonne Wilenken, a former Planned Parenthood worker, <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/former-pp-worker-describes-how-they-frightened-pregnant-teens-into-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\">gave the following testimony<\/a> in the book\u00a0<em>Bad Choices: A Look inside Planned Parenthood<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The counselor would say to the teenager, \u201cWell, where\u2019s the $250,000 that it takes to raise a child in society today?\u201d And \u201cWhat are your parents going to say when they find out that you\u2019re pregnant?\u201d And \u201cWhat is your boyfriend doing? Is he going to help you? Where is he?\u201d and \u201cHow are you going to finish your education if you have a baby? Don\u2019t you know you can\u2019t go to school if you have a baby?\u201d Things like that, very subtle things that will push the girl over and make her decide.<\/p>\n<p>Then they sort of do a \u201cMutt and Jeff\u201d routine. First will come those questions. Next will come the very motherly, the very soothing, \u201cBut we can help you. We can help you out of your problem. Your parents don\u2019t have to know. We can help you with the money. You don\u2019t have to have any money and we can help you out of your situation because we know that you don\u2019t want to be pregnant. You just want to be not pregnant and we know that you know that you can\u2019t take care of a baby right now. You know that you\u2019re not ready and we want you to do these things when you\u2019re ready.\u201d So they play on the emotions of the young girl who scared, frightened, doesn\u2019t know where to go, but she\u2019s been told this is the place to go to get help.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But\u00a0rushed and biased counseling is not limited to\u00a0Planned Parenthood. Researcher David Reardon, in his book\u00a0<em>Aborted Women: Silent No More<\/em>,<em>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/abortion-counseling-study\/\" target=\"_blank\">surveyed over 250 post-abortive women<\/a>\u00a0about the counseling they received at abortion facilities. The results are alarming.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>66% said their counselor&#8217;s advice was biased<\/li>\n<li>40 to 60% described themselves as not having been certain of their decision prior to counseling<\/li>\n<li>44% stated they were actively hoping to find an option other than abortion during counseling<\/li>\n<li>5% reported that they were encouraged to ask questions<\/li>\n<li>52 to 71% felt the questions were inadequately answered, sidestepped, or trivialized<\/li>\n<li>90% said they were not given enough information to make an informed decision<\/li>\n<li>83% said it was very likely that they would\u2019ve chosen differently if they had not been so strongly encouraged to abort by others, including their abortion counselors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And according to Reardon:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>95% of women who had abortions at Planned Parenthood said that their Planned Parenthood counselors gave \u201c\u2026little or no biological information about the fetus which the abortion would destroy.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is unlikely that Planned Parenthood told the abortion patient that at just under eight\u00a0weeks\u00a0her baby had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehd.org\/movies.php?mov_id=41\" target=\"_blank\">hands and feet, with fingers and toes<\/a>, or that her baby\u00a0had a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehd.org\/movies.php?mov_id=21\" target=\"_blank\">beating heart<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehd.org\/movies.php?mov_id=33\" target=\"_blank\">brainwaves<\/a>.\u00a0Was she told that having an abortion would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abortionbreastcancer.com\/The_Link.htm\" target=\"_blank\">increase her risk of breast cancer<\/a>\u00a0(according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2014\/09\/22\/twelve-out-of-twelve-recent-studies-show-abortion-linked-to-breast-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\">twelve out of twelve recent studies<\/a>)? Was she told\u00a0that a woman who has an abortion is left with <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/psychological-risks-traumatic-aftereffects-of-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\">a greater risk of suicide<\/a>\u00a0(up to <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/psychological-risks-traumatic-aftereffects-of-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\">six to seven times<\/a>\u00a0greater, according to two studies)? Or that abortion could lead to a <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/psychological-risks-traumatic-aftereffects-of-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\">65% increased risk of depression<\/a>?\u00a0It is possible that the\u00a0woman who told her story in <em>Abortion &amp; Life<\/em> had no knowledge\u00a0of these statistics and facts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd2\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_BY_250_mid_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0\" class=\"ArticleAd2a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Beyond the abortion workers&#8217; reluctance to tell a woman anything that might make her\u00a0back out of her abortion, there is also the fact that counseling takes up time and slows things down, reducing the number of abortions that can be done &#8212; meaning fewer abortions can be performed and less money can be made. And with Planned Parenthood currently performing an average of <a href=\"\/news\/new-video-debunks-planned-parenthoods-3-percent-abortion-myth\/\">one abortion every 97 seconds<\/a>, time is money for them:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qtgqxvaV-8U\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Pro-choice author\u00a0Carole Joffe interviewed abortion clinic workers for her book\u00a0<em>The Regulation of Sexuality: Experiences of Family-Planning Workers. <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/long-counseling-sessions-in-clinics-annoy-abortionists-author-says\/\" target=\"_blank\">She says<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[A]s the clinic director was fond of pointing out, counseling did not generate revenue for the clinic; being seen in the medical room did.
